Hi I just recently bought my 05 RX and still trying to figure a few things out...

I was just wondering if anyone can explain the proper procedure for opening and closing the moon roof

I checked the hand book and I think I'm doing it correctly but not sure how you can tell if the roof is completely closed??? It doesn't seem to positively stop dead

It will go so far and then it will start to open again so I've been on or off the switch until I think its closed

Seems odd that it doesn't just stop dead as in an electric window when I close it up

Any advice on this would be much appreciated...

The one in my 54 RX300 was one touch - you pulled the switch backwards and it opened fully. If you hit it forward when open, it would close completely. The tilt buttons used to do just that i.e. tilt to max and then when hit again, fully closed.

Yep, Rayaan is correct. If this does not work for you, it could be that the Battery was disconnected at some stage and the sun/moonroof needs resetting. Can't remember how to do this , but if you search the forum for "sunroof" you should pick it up.

+1 for DanD - I had exactly the same problem.

To reset, put the keys in ignition and turn so dashlights are on, pull sliding switch back and hold until fully open wait a couple of seconds and then push the slider forwards until fully closed (moves no more), wait a second or two then push the tilt button (back edge towards the boot) until no movement, then the same with the front edge of the tilt button.

Wait a couple of seconds and confirm it's working by sliding the open button back and release immediately, the roof will slide all the way open and vice versa will close by itself when the switch is tapped forwards as Rayaan's described.

You can also open all windows and roof from the key fob by unlocking the car with the fob and then pressing and holding unlock, when you hear beeps the Windows / roof open for as long as you keep the button depressed. You can also close Windows and the roof with the lock button too!

Awesome!

Thanks guys  I will have a go at resetting the roof at the weekend and I will report back

Also didn't know you could open all the windows and roof with the key fob! More toys to play with...

Thanks so much for the advice!

I had to do the reset on mine.

Before, it felt 'vague'. Was it totally closed?

Afterwards, it felt perfect, and safe. As it should.

That was the problem!

If I kept my finger on the switch it would go past the stop position and start opening again

I just guessed where the closed position was... luckily it doesn't seem to be leaking

Cant wait to have a look at it on Saturday. ..

Did you resolve the problem - is it ok now?

Sorted the sunroof... I don't think there was a problem part from me being the idiot!

You need to hold the slider button for a second and then let go of it and then the roof will slide forward or back until open or fully closed

Anyhow it works so were all good...

Now... the next problem. .. I have a clunking sound at the rear of the car? Seems to happen when I move off and more noticable after the car has been stood for a few days with the hand brake on

But today I heard the clunk when I was out and about in the car

So must be getting worse!

My first thought was a sticky brake calliper but I am interested to know if this sounds like a common problem for the RX and if there are any suspension issues

I have standard coil spring suspension. ..

Thanks again for all the help with the roof...
