Keyless security issues!!! Potential big problem for everyone!!!

Having gone through 2 years of worrying about keyless thefts via the OBD port on the BMW I thought getting a Lexus would be the end of that worry....

As it turns out keyless entry cars are at even more risk (See links). Essentially a company has built an signal amplifier that will mean some one can get into your keyless entry car, start the engine and drive away. The tech is straight forwards, it simply amplifies the RF signal of the key to make the car think the key is next to the car . No real effective countermeasures.

Looks like my trusted disklok will be going back onto the Lexus.

Presumably this was the attack shown in the new BBC4 Scandi drama "Follow the money" last Saturday (19/3/2016). The thief entered and stole an upmarket BMW.

I was impressed at how easily he inserted his OBD plug. I have to  get my head under the steering wheel.

Before we go any further with electronics, in particular, those that take control of the car away from the driver, we should give a thought to how easily computers can be hacked.

As to keyless entry, was it really so hard to push a little button?

Or in the 70's any key/screwdriver could open and start most cars.

Seriously I would not worry at all about a keyless Lexus getting stolen. There is simply no market there for the thieves.
