Hi,

I usually go to jem lexus in north london for a service but the website says they are closed. Does anyone know any alternatives by any chance? I've always gone there so never had to look anywhere else before

Thanks

GREAT NEWS, NADEEM!

I have just called a contact number for Lexus Edgware Road (0203 733 1715)  and have been assured that they are OPEN for business!

True, I selected ‘Service’ and got through to the Group booking centre - so there was a degree of holding on and listening to music - but I was assured that the location is open as usual.  The contact I spoke with said he would investigate the Google page information.

It may be that if I had selected ‘Sales’ I might have got straight through to the branch.

I hope this helps.

Perhaps I am getting confused, but Jem Lexus and Jemca Edgware Road are(were) two different companies.

Jem was an independent that happen to be around the corner from the main dealer.

If you go to their site, it says:

http://www.jemlexus.co.uk/Diagnosis

No Shapoor…it looks like l’m the confused one! 🙁

I searched for Jem Lexus and up comes Lexus Edgware Road in north London.

Investigating further, I now find some old posts in which folk are looking for low cost servicing in the area and find that these two are pretty much on a par - but not necessarily the cheapest.

So my suggestion to Nadeem is still try Lexus Edgware Road.  It seems the closest option anyway.

Or maybe he’s already tried them?

Anyway, Matron says it’s time for my nap.

Thanks again for this john.

Im thinking of booking my intermediate service at Japex, (i do 2 services a year due to high miles).

Are you aware if there are any advantages if any of servicing at a specialist rather than your Halfords and kwik fits who are cheaper?

Thanks

renowned for their abominable attention to detail and inability generally to just " get it right "

My personal experience at a Halfords buying two new tyres ( they had them in stock and price matched the garage that didn't ) and the way another customer was being so diffidently and non deferentially treated made my blood boil  ...  he was in for a service it seemed and MOT ....  and their just couldn't care less attitude so infuriated me .....  but my tyre purchase was fine btw

Hi Malc

I agree to an extent to the 'attitude' and customer service aspect. Due to the advice on forums such as this I have to consider you guys know what you are talking about regarding servicing etc so I am considering cancelling my kwik fit booking and going japex instead from now on..

Worth noting that National Tyres are now owned by Halfords. I recently had to have a punctured tyre replaced and went to a local National. The price they quoted was about £25 higher than on Halfords website, which they happily matched when shown the page.

So, you can get Halfords prices (if they're cheaper), but from a "proper" tyre shop.

Japex do receive good reports and they are knowledgeable about most cars manufactured in the Far East.

Halfords and Kwik Fit are cheap for several reasons and I (and others) would not dream of letting their employees loose on our vehicles. I would not advise you to approach either of them.

Such a shame that they have closed down. They were great especially for import cars. I live between both garages JEM MOTORS and JAPEX in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire (Very close to Watford).

I have used both in the past. Both were great. JEM MOTORS were pricier.

Looks like Ill only be going to JAPEX now for my other cars. I have also found these guys https://www.nipponautouk.com/

Have anyone used them. I will be very interested to know! They have some good reviews.

Their employees are not qualified car mechanics but just folk that are trained to change tyres and sometimes even that can be a challenge. Some years ago i took my wifes BMW in for new run flat summers. When i bought winters some 6 months later from a local garage it became clear that 3 of 4 tyres were destroyed due to incorrect installation that damaged the steel rim construction inside the tyre making it worthless. Of course is did complain to Kwikfit headoffice and they did refund them. Another example of some years before that with my companycar. Again changing summers for winters with the car ( IS250) on the lift waiting for action. I always watch what happens and i see one of the Kwikfitters approaching my Lexus with a big tray and some equipment apparently starting an oilchange. I ran towards him asking what he was doing and he just told me "an oil change". As he did not look to have more than one braincell i politely asked him to go to the manager and ask if that was correct.

I will never ever set foot in one of their companies again better to bring your car to a local Mechanic.
