Beware the cost of your new iphone doesn't exceed the value of the car you're trying to protect  :whistling:

just that the price of the new new Iphone ( 14 Max at @£1200 )  might actually exceed the value of my beloved limo at 240k miles ................  let alone any cost of real physical protection .....  .....  indeed at the last insce write-off to Cat N  ............. they paid me out £850 and I kept the car with minimal rear door squash damage........... a couple of years back tho' and of course we know cars such as ours will always appreciate in value:whistling:

but your Sc430s are of immeasurable value  .........  OK  :wink3:  . ( at this time  )

As a deterrent and theft recovery aid, I have used these Synthetic DNA security kits for my higher value tools and home / home office contents.  They also have a Vehicle kit that also includes a window etching pack.  When my NX450H+ arrives I am very tempted to tag it and contents such as charging cables, roof bars, detachable towing hitch etc with one of these kits for re-assurance and an extra layer of deterrance.

Hi Paul

I thought that was a video tape and you were encouraging us to watch it, because even an old git like me doesn't possess a video player!

Joking aside it appears to be a clever idea and certainly merits further consideration! Thanks for sharing.

Just this morning, my mum (aged 87) gave me her VHS player saying she didn't need it anymore! You can borrow it if you like!

When I picked my NX up from the dealer, I found all the glass had been etched with the last digits of the VIN. Not quite the same as a DNA fingerprint but a yseful theft deterrent - as long as the thief sees it before he steals the car.

Thanks mate, but I do not harbour any nostalgic thoughts about the demise of video players!!!

Kind thought though 😉

Thanks for that, I need prompting about new things but now it's worth investigating.

This seems very similar to the Smart Water marking system. Lexus we’re offering to mark the catalyst converter for free and pay the registration for 2 years. I took up their offer and had my 2016 RX450h done. You have stickers for window to say it has been done but no window etching.

Hi Glyn

Sounds like that was a good deal, I would have had that done, it would be good for Lexus service departments to revisit that offer.

Perhaps it's like property, it's better to have good doors and windows which lock, an alarm system and CCTV for belt and braces.

Although cars appear to need more with mechanical steering wheel locks and window etching etc.
