IS300H Fluid capacity

Anybody know the Fluid capacity for the following:

2013>Is300H (Trim level does not matter) F Sport etc

- *Cooling system drain & refill

- Engine oil

- Brake fluid

- Differential oil

- CVT transmission

All of these are from the official workshop manual and are for 2013-15

- Coolant - 8.2 litres of Toyota SLLC

- Engine oil drain and refill with oil filter  4.5 litres

- Brake fluid - Capacity not specified just says to fill to the max mark and use

SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT3

- Differential oil - 1.3-1.4 litres

- CVT transmission (L210 Hybrid transaxle) - 3.8 litres of Toyota ATF - WS

Thanks for the download Admin it maybe worth pinning this.

Lexus Parts direct advertise/provide 7L of coolant in the 'Complete service kit' package.

But the Handbook states 8.2L does that mean they supply 1L less than necessary?

Done abit more digging:

8.2L for the Engine & Radiator system

2.2L For Inverter known as Power control unit (Right hand drive)

All in best to have 10.4L to hand I understand not all the coolant flushes out during a drain so may not necessarily need the 10.4L but its best to have more to hand for than not.

Lexuspartsdirect may not be providing enough coolant in their 'Complete' service pack which is due at 10 years or at 100,000 miles.

Yeah its possible that 8.2L is the total capacity rather than the drain and refill capacity. Says here that 8.2l is the specified capacity not clear if that means total capacity.

Personally i think the drain and refill capacity is potentially less. I had my waterpump done recently and they charged me only £37 for coolant im assuming thats one 5litre can.

Notice the inspect inverter coolant not replace?

Dealers only replace engine coolant, this is a skipped service item.

100,000 miles / 10 Years

  • Carry out 100K/120 month full service as per schedule.
  • Includes:- Replace engine oil & oil filter.
  • Inspect drive belt.
  • Replace windscreen washer fluid.
  • Check all fluid levels & top up as required.
  • Inspect cooling system, hoses & connections.
  • Inspect radiator & condenser for debris & signs of damage.
  • Inspect inverter coolant.
  • Replace engine coolant.
  • Inspect air filter element.
  • Inspect charcoal canister.
  • Replace brake fluid.

Inverter coolant should follow the same schedule as the main coolant on earlier models. Initially replace the factory fill at 100k miles (150,000 km) and then every 50k miles. Later vehicles have the 150k mile schedule - check your service booklet for details.

For reference should anybody plan on doing a DIY job or if you decide on going to an indepedent garage ordering the parts as a Complete service kit + an additional 5L Super Long life coolant from Lexus parts direct you will likely have 2L of coolant left over.

If you plan on doing the Major Service its a whopping cost of £280 (parts only) using genuine service parts. Although for me not at 100,000 miles its reaching 10 years but 52,000 miles young. 

Items include:

Air filter, Pollen filter, Oil & Filter, x4 Spark plugs, Inverter coolant, Radiator coolant.

Differential I did previously factor this as part of major service.

Should hopefully be set for at least another 5 years if I still own it will do CVT at 100,000 miles.

Saving potentially 50% from getting it done directly from a dealer.

From a cost perspective these cars are easy enough to maintain & work on so if your capable of doing maintenance its a joy owning the IS300H.

Absolutely agree... These cars are super easy to work on. The workshop manual above even provides torque specs etc. Once you're no loger able to get warranty from lexus i think it makes sense to service and maintain it yourself. Hopefully it should last a long time.

Lexus / Toyota coolant in our cars is 10 year / 100K mile life for the first fill - at least from 2014 which my car is. When my 100K service came around (the car was about 6 years old IIRC) I was on an Essentials Maintenance plan for which there was additional cost for replacing the likes of coolant. I said to Lexus I'm happy to pay for the coolant change but they tested the coolant and said no need to change it yet - I'd have happily paid for the change in addition to the Essential Maintenance plan so trust they did the right thing (and I have an Extended Warranty that I will be maintaining until 150K miles). The 150K service says to change coolant again (as after the first change it should go to 50K miles, presumably because they don't get all the old coolant out). The inverter coolant is also scheduled to be changed at 150K miles too and so I will ask them to do both at the 150K mile service.

My understanding is the coolant changes are only specified by Lexus & Toyota in miles covered & not time duration, but I'm happy to be corrected. So 100k & 150k miles for engine & the inverter respectively.  I guess this would make sense if it only degrades when it's hot. This would also explain why the inverter coolant has a longer life as I presume it gets less hot.

I wonder how Lexus tests the coolant; do you think they check to see if it's turned acidic?

You could be right about only being mileage - because I do about 15k miles a year I only tend to think in mileages. Not sure how they tested it though.

It could very well be you guys are right, but the figures on the service manuals are not written by the engineers but by the management and marketing departments... Service schedules are very optimistic estimations, and some things aren't even there (like the filter & fan of the hybrid Battery in the back) .

Look at what this master Toyota technicians says about the coolants "as per service schedule" at 31:35 of this video:

I've driven quite a few cars in my many years, from new or nearly new to high mileages, and only ever serviced them according to the manufacturers schedule (mostly at the manufacturers dealership) and none of them have caused any major problems.

Personally I don't subscribe to all these self-declared YouTube experts (many of whom are based in a the very backward looking,when it comes to car technologies, USA) claiming how wrong the manufactuers are despite those manufacturers spending many millions of pounds on R&D and who have a reputation to protect.

IMHO YouTube is largely full of people more interested in building their audience through trying to be controversial and who are mainly interested in the revenue they will get from that.

Just my opinion, but I do speak from real experience of actually running my cars at mileages in a way these people say it should have failed ages ago.

However if anyone wants to change fluids and whatever else before the scheduled mileage, it's a free world (well some is anyway!) so no problem with that.
