The first red car must have been taken with some sort of filter as to much chrome affect on the paint work , 2nd red one with the red seatbelts is a true colour👍🏻

The filter doesn’t do anything for the interior. The seats look really grubby but I’m guessing that they’re ok in reality.

I think we have all learned the reality is that if "pictures are worth a thousand words" then the first word might be 'misleading'.

Or from a dealer that first word might be …… “ concours “  🤣

Picked up my SC 430 from Elite Motor Company on Thursday morning. Drove from Croydon to Newcastle on Thursday, Newcastle to Edinburgh on Friday. I've also had a little blast around some local roads today. I had a little concern about water coming from the bottom of the engine bay but it turned out to be nothing to worry about - just the A/C condensation pipe working as expected.

I'm impressed with the car. It's very smooth, very refined. For reference I have previously owned a 996 Generation 911 C2 and a V6 Hyundai Coupe which in some ways the SC 430 reminds me of but it is in other ways very different. It takes very, very little effort to go from 50 or 60 to 80 mph+ if you are not careful. Compared to a 996/911 it is very quiet even with your foot to the floor, but it is not as 'nibble' round the B roads which in fairness is what you would expect as the SC 430 is more a cruiser type of car than an all out sports car. The slightly poor (if I'm honest) turning circle reminded me of my V6 Hyundai Coupe, but you can tell the built quality of the Lexus is vasty superior to the Hyundai of the same age / vintage.

I would prefer if the exhaust had more 'note' considering it is a V8, but I fully understand that was a design decision from Lexus to make the car as quiet as possible. I have been pleasantly surprised at the MPG (28 ish) on a motorway run which is actually the same as the 996/911 would do. I love the 'LEXUS' lights on the floor when you open the car in the dark. I find the hopelessly outdated sat nat adorable, and the seats and steering wheel feel great.

I do have some niggles that I have spotted in my first 500 miles with the car:

- The dreaded 'ERROR 4' message. I can it to bugger off by using the 'SHIP' mode reset but it's annoying as it always comes back.

- The tape player sounds like my tapes are being played underwater (dirty tape head?).

- I can't get a very good visual angle from the passenger side mirror, when I try move it electronically closer to me it 'springs' back to a middle / far away visual position. Is the motor bad, or is a clip behind the mirror glass possibly broken or something like that?

- The passenger door foot level speaker (behind the fluffy cover) 'pops' during big bass noses which is annoying. I'm never going to enjoy Groove Armanda like this. I suspect that speaker needs replaced.

- The brakes are fierce / work great, but they do make a squeak sound from cold that seems to go away once they have warmed up a bit. However, there seems to be a lot of life left on the pads so I don't know what's going on there.

So, I'll get the brakes checked professionally when I get the timing belt and water pump done in a couple of months.

I need to replace one speaker and the cd changer unit, and find some sort of fix for the passenger side mirror.

All in all though, really not too bad for a car that has done 167,000 miles and is 19 years old.

Looking forward to getting to know the car better and going on more adventures 😃

As you say not much wrong for 167k.

The brakes making a noise, is this at low speed when the car is cold ?

…and when you put the CD in SHIP mode does it then let you  eject any discs left in the player ?

Common for early cars to blow front speakers but not so much facelift cars, then again..167k that’s a lot of miles with the same speakers .

Thanks for the reply Bob. Yes, the brakes are most noisy at low speed from cold, so in slow moving traffic or when reversing. The CDs do eject when I’m SHIP mode, and it will then usually take a disc and start playing, it’s just a lot of faff as when that cd has finished playing I usually get the ERROR 4 when changing discs. I wouldn’t mind so much if the tape drive still worked but alas not.

The front blown speaker is just on one side, it’s possible that the previous owner just had the volume up loud most the time and repeated stress has got to it.

My observations with creaking brakes are , cold car on choke with higher Revs..the cold brakes are having to hold the car harder and this gives the creaking….it’s normal.

if it’s any other noise get them looked at .

CD player should not  need the SHIP procedure doing every time you take a disc out, it should go back to working normally.

Maybe look at an aftermarket head unit .

Speakers….. have a play with the balance and fader see if the speakers improve.

Next step is a pair of after market upgrade speakers.

should be YouTube clips on how to strip off door cards 👍🏻

Angus hi. just a simplistic thought from me

Has the time maybe arrived for you to ask a ICE specialist to check it all over and sort it out ……. it might be relatively simple stuff for him to do 🤔

Could be worth referring, at least to get an early estimate ……. sweet music may then  flow 😄

They are 8 ohm speakers in the front. Some owners have fitted 4 ohm units and had no problems. I would try to find some newer ones that are a direct replacement unless the intention is to invest in an aftermarket amplifier too.

The other option is to just refoam the speakers.  The 6 x 9 in the door is particularly prone to disintegrating over time.  Kits are available for not much money from the US.  One of mine had gone when I bought my car so I did both and two and a half years later they are still fine.

It's getting repetitive ,but Stew did the one's on my car.  Counts for me ,because I use the CD player all the time when in the car.

I'll be parting with my silver 54 reg. one in maybe June/ July. Had it a couple of years or more. I only covered about 400 miles last year, so not getting the use out of it. It needs some minor paint on a lower front wing, which I hope to address, but the roof panel is flaky.

Generally good, no expense spared, had all new brakes last year and a stainless exhaust a couple of years back. No warning lights.

Will get some pics up soon, if anyone cares, and more mileage/ owner details.

Just bought a little trailer to hook up to my SC 430. Coffin goes on the trailer and the SC is the hearse pulling it. Still looking for a cemetery that will do the extra large plot so it can be driven straight down into the hole and buried with me. Think I understand what the Pharoahs were trying to do ! 😉

VF54 CVU. Price is going to be negotiable. It won't be top money, as I want to see it go to a good home, but with the money spent, I want to see a sensible return, without being greedy. I hope that makes sense.   I'm not desperate to sell, but my other option of a 450h means I have another reasonably quick motor to drive, with marginally better fuel economy.
