Got into the Car yesterday to adjust the new Dash Cam and heard a strange tinkling noise when I closed the door, like gravel on the roof.  Didn't think much about it and fixed the Dash  Cam to the Mirror with added elastic band and cable tie just in case the sticky were at some point in time give way.  Got out and closed the Car and realised my REAR WINDSREEN WAS SHATTERED. The side parts had blown out and the centre was in tact in  thousand pieces.

Could see where the impact of  large pebble found nearby had crashed into to glass near the roofline.  Didn't photo but instantly ran to the house for a piece of a Yuzet Opaque Tarp which (fortunately) happened to be the right size and with my Wifes help covered and sealed the Screen.

What next?  What chance of finding a replacement for a thirty year old Car?  Haven't contacted the Insurers so far as PM'd Rupert Dubreaux who had similar problem from falling house tile.  Malc if you know his phone number please alert him to my plight as need  to know my options before ringing Insurers.  Really would hate to lose the Car.

I'm in poor health and didn't need this grief.

Removing and replacing a screen is really for a professional, thats IF you can get a new one. Failing that you could try Paul at lexus spares direct to see if he has one and can remove it and ask a screen fitter if they could do the job for you. I doubt there would be any guarantee given on a used screen though. Paul - 07590072646

Stuart. Dreadful thing to happen

suggest you message him on here ……. He’s very attentive …… or send him your phone number on a message here

I know he has a make-do plastic rear screen that’s far from ideal but makes his car driveable …… lucky he has two Ls400s eh !

Sourcing a replacement will be extremely challenging

there’s another post here somewhere about a company up north that makes glass screens …. NOT Pilkington ……and u might be lucky there

I meant to keep their number handy but I didn’t sadly

It’s on this forum somewhere I know !

terrible for you 🥵

I remember being surprised there was an alternative to Pilkington …….
can’t believe I didn’t keep their number 🤔

That sucks 😞

Might need to contact Pilkington and see if they can make one for your LS if they don't have it in stock.
https://www.pilkington.com/en-gb/uk/automotive/classic-cars-home/makes-and-models/all-makes-and-models?make=lexus
They do list items for the first generation XF10 LS400 (HT1076) which should fit your 93.

Bonded screens are a royal PITA to remove without damaging them.
Then once successfully removed they need to be carefully cleaned before bonding them into your car.

According to the Amayama website this is still available (at a price) and it is not yet showing as NLA or obsolete.

There are 3 tint colours available so make sure you check or ask me to.

If you can get your insurance company to agree to you importing one and having it fitted this may be your only option and bear in mind there is 20% VAT to add to the total price from Amayama.

Weird but the blue tint is £200.00 cheaper?

4811 GLASS, BACK WINDOW
64810-50041 *EHTT, T=3.5, BRONZE 1 € 560.01
64810-50051 *EHTT, T=3.5, GRAY 1 € 560.01
64810-50061 *EHTT, T=3.5, BLUE 1 € 560.01

Hi Steve,

My car is a Mk11 1993 and may be the same part number as the Mk 1 or not? Imagine Bronze is the colour as the Car is Beige. though never noticed any colour t.b.h.

Thanks for your research.   Found this thread which gives an idea of the problem faced with removal.  I'm not up for that.  Will keep looking and pm the guy to find out if he had his replaced.

There really is another Post somewhere over these recent months specifying an independent car screen / glass manufacturer ……  I’m sure up north somewhere 🤔

It might be that the insurers will know of it …… I’m sure I read about it on this Forum !

Am I that forgetful 😰

Steve, I've checked Amayama with my Vin code JT153UF1000171101  and I don't find the glass listed under item 64811 (not 64810) which may be a variant of the Mk1.  Perhaps I'm losing it and just didn't spot it listed?? Could be, as this is stressfull after nine years of ownership to have to buy something else which for me usually turns out to be a lemon.  Sent request to Plkington for price quote, George.

I checked on Toyodiy for the part number for the 1993-1994 model year but did also notice that Amayama listed this as a 1990-1992 part.

AFAIK the rear glass would be the same as the main changes from the series 1 and II were front brakes going to 2 pot, bigger wheels from 15” to 16” and various other mainly cosmetic changes.

That said obviously you need to be sure the rear screen is correct so I will look into this further for you.

A bit confusing but it would appear that the the 50040/50050/50060 is the 1990-1992 and the 50041/50051/50061 is the 1993-1994 model.

Having said that the part number 50051 shows up for both years in some listings.

Is the part number actually etched into the glass I wonder?

On reflection I’m not at all sure that Tyneside name was the one …… is there another post anywhere here I wonder ?
The company I read its website seemed much less “ professional and glossy “ than this one !

When I moved to Queenborough Kent some 11 years ago we had a bespoke independent classic car glass production small works factory

I had a short tour of part once

That’s now closed and gone to Pilkington up north ….. it’s now owner

There must surely be a small bespoke classic car glass producer somewhere in the UK ?  where the prices are affordable 🤔

Theres specialist tiny classic car tyre producers in the uk like Blickley,   why not another glass one too

only just seen this post regarding rear screen.

Apologies if this has been resolved

Don't forget eBay, there was a '93 breaking a few weeks ago on here.

I  don't think breakers will send glass, not sure

I cut one out of a scrap '91 with a plasma cutter, then carefully removed the glass.

May need to think out of the box, don't give up

That sounds hairy but what do I know of Plasma cutters?  Good to hear that you fitted a ,92 into your Mk 2 '94.  I have found a source for a s/h one but won't say more until I know its been cut out successfully.  Fingers crossed as so many things can go wrong. Same with importing. Could end up with a giant box of glass shards and no rcourse to money back.   Local S class Diesel may be on the Horizon but hoping not.

I was just wondering how the hopefully original Toyota backscreen markings tie in with what’s mentioned

The nomenclature style looks a tad different !

I'll have a more detailed look tomorrow, if the part numbers for S1 and S2 are the same.

and if there are numbers on the glass.

I did not fit the S1 glass into my car.
