I Just Bought A Gs300 Sport Mk1

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, As a new member i'd just want to say hi.

Part X'd my beloved 97 Prelude 2.2VTi for a wide rear wheel GS300 Sport a few weeks ago, and it has to be said that so far I love the GS.

Apart from it's ravenous thirst for petrol! I seem to be averaging about 20mpg around town, and about 27mpg on the motorway. Is this normal?

Does anyone know of an independant Toyota/Lexus specialist near or in Sth Wales?

Hi and Welcome,

Can't help with the garages in S/Wales, but the MPG your getting is about right, you can get more out of the GS but then you'll not have any where near as much fun when you floor her  The GS's can be thirsty lady's but are worth it though. Sounds like you may have the MK I Sports with the 10" rears on.

How bizarre, i'm thinking of going the other way from my lexus gs300 sport mkI to a prelude 2.2 vti motegi 2000 w reg, I'm not happy with the performance of the gs300 versus its fuel economy. The car still runs smoothly, and drives perfectly, just doesn't have the sportiness I thought it had having previously come from a 2.2 vtec 1994 prelude.

Hope you enjoy your car, just one quick question, which do you prefer, is the lexus better than the 5th gen prelude?

Oh the Prelude was a great car, and gave me a great deal of fun.

It was very quick, and with 4 wheel steering the handling is pin sharp.

To be honest the GS300 Sport feels like driving a boat in comparison, but lets face it's an entirely different animal. The Prelude 5sp manual is about a second and a half quicker to 60 too. 2.2 V tec is a great engine!!

If you don't mind the very limited space in the rear of the Prelude, then I would highly recommend it. I had 2 years of trouble free motoring, and loads of compliments on how cool the car looked.

Yeah I know the guys at Hyeline. They've been helpful to me once with my old Prelude, but I have heard some horror stories too. So who knows?

Welcome to another Series I Sport owner!

As said, the fuel consumption you quoted is about average.

Enjoy the car.

:)

Juicy he he. Try the modified TT supra I get 18 MPG at best out of it. RX7's return even less - mostly single figure lol. But if you think about it what does a 3 litre BMW 5 series of the same era return?

As a new owner I was checking to see what most owner's conisider to be normal consumption.

My Prelude wasn't exactly economical fuel wise, but the GS300 is a greedy beast indeed. I've owned a couple of Jags in the past too, and they had an unquenchable thirst for gas.
