Missfire

Recommended Posts

Newbie here,

My name is Chris from Liverpool.

Just thought id say hi before i start to go on.

Right,

Took my IS200 to Lexus Liverpool for a diagnostics because it was running "lumpy" and performance was not up to scratch.

They told me it was a Missfire on 3 cylinders (numbers 1, 2 and 3) and required new coil packs.

I have a warranty on the car but Lexus did not deal with the company so i took it to a local garage!

The garage ordered the coil packs and i bought new spark plugs (NGK i think)

The coil packs and the spark plugs have just been fitted but i have had a call from the garage saying that the car is still missfiring. :tsktsk:

Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong with it?

Suggestions please!

Anything that involves timing, Air filter, Air Flow Sensor, Fuel Injection ? (all governed by the ECU).

Try resetting the ecu now that you have new plugs and coils.

Also if you've got a gauge it would be interesting to do a compression test on all 6 cylinders and see how 1, 2 & 3 compare with 4, 5, 6.

Could an exhaust manifold leak be the problem?

IIRC the exhaust manifold has 2 branches 1 for cylinders 1, 2 & 3 and the other for 4, 5 & 6. If it also has 2 O2 sensors that could mess up the fuelling.

If it was this, im sure Lexus Liverpool would have picked up on it whilst it was in.

I will bear it in mind though

Thanks

The way that I would view it is that the probability if having 3 coilpacks, spark plugs or other ignition failure affecting only 3 cylinders at the same time let alone 3 sequential cylinders is about nil.

Therefore the fault is probably not ignition related.
