Weird Sound

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Right this is irritating me I have had my is200 sport for over 2 years now its a 52 plate and i have noticed what can be best described as a 'dull road noise sound'. It occurs when i have speed and is especiialy notcied when coasting or car is decellerating. Basically its like road noise but really loud and coming from underneath the car - there is no to my knowledge performance problems car handles fine. Just a lot of road noise - definately somthin new I would of noticed this before - its well noticable at 30mph normally the car is real quiet. Its like a loud road sound. Its not a wheel bearing or anything like that anyone any guesses?

My 2001 Is300 makes a strange noise that sounds similar, I'm not sure what it is either but I'm taking the car to get it serviced tomorrow. I'll let you know if they work out what it is...

cheers man - weird just like 90mph road noise on a poor road but when you ar doing 20mph and kind of oscillating. wierd.

yeah ive got a similar noise. its like a wheel bearing gone, but only does it sometimes on the odd occasion.

i replaced the rear shocks and it still done it (didnt replace them cos of the noise, they were knackered) think i need to replace the fronts aswell so when i do il listen out for it.

Had my car serviced on Monday and they said the noise was a bearing, seems like both the front ones need replaced, I also need new discs and pads on the front...

I think I'll try the discs myself, dealer quoted about 350quid my I've changed discs before so I think I'll save a few quid and have a go...

Not sure what to do about the bearings, I had a warranty on my last car and I have transferred it over, it will cover new brearings in 90 days. So I'll try and wait it out, quoted £350 for each one!!

I think the noise sounds like those noise in all old Toyota in the late 70's or early 80's. The noise is extremely loud at low speed on smooth road. Mine has got that noise since brand new a year ago. It's bloody annoying. The dealer could not fix it and one of the Lexus Representatives told me that it's tyre noise after driving with him for more than an hour.

went this morning and the mechanic went for a drive. He reckons its a bearing the noise is significant but not too loud. He asked if the car has been previosuly accident damaged and it had (front left side) and then mentioned sometimes when they put wheels back on/axels etc. that they do not seal up the bearing properly and moisture can get in during the colder months and that can cause the bearings to rust. He thinks its coming from that side.

He had a look at it but said he was not sure as they was no give on the wheels (usually there is he said) and said to drive it for a whiel until it gets louder and he can determine which side it is. He said once you open up the bearings there you have to replace them so he does not want to replace the wrong ones. Said it would be safe to drive - better be i got a 500mile round trip this weekend! So i'll take it once it the drone soudn gets louder.

Thansk for everyone responses nice community vibe on here.
