Leaking Ls400 A Hose Going Nowhere?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys just picked up my ls400

there a couple of small issues, the most concerning is that there is water (its not red so prob not coolant) driping out of a hose that is not going anywhere?

its down the o/s part of the engine, close to the o/s inner arch , i've felt around the area and there isnt a spout nearby?

I'll post some pictures in a bit, but its concerning.

Luckily I can take it back to the dealership and prob get my money back.

Does anyone know where this hose should go?

may well be the condensation drip from the aircon

how much is dripping ?

are you or have you used the aircon ?

if it is the aircon, its perfectly normal

yeah I drove the car around for a good hour or so with the air con off and the hose didnt drip at all.

when it is on its a drip every 2 seconds, continues for a while after as well?

the hotter it is outside or the cooler you set it inside the more it will produce

the water is just the condensation from the condensor

as stated it is perfectly normal :D

I just find it strange that the car just dumps the condensation out of a hose?

I can understand condensation forming on a pipe, but having a pipe that directs the condensed water onto the ground doesnt fit with the cars image?

yesterday it put out quite alot of water, so much so that it formed a small lake.

It's normal practice to vent the water out this way.

Domestic refridgerators use a similar system, if you look on top of the compressor there is normally a plastic tray mounted where the water collects then evaporates away ( saves the puddle on the kitchen floor!)

I had a similar panic moment when I hired a car in Rhodes and saw a large puddle underneath on my return.

defo the aircon condenser water pipe.

don't forget it's a luxury car but the S1 is 15+ year old design.

You probably could collect the water if you want, but it as it comes from condensation you will have an endless supply...
