Bittorrent

A few days ago, my bittorrent client started throwing up errors, and won't download anything anymore. The message I'm getting is:

"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"

Does anyone know what's wrong?

Sounds like the port is blocked?

A lot of IP's are now blocking traffic on the traditional BT ports - try utorrent and set the port to something other than the default and then open up traffic on that port on your router.

...and be very wary of btorrent if you're grabbing anything dodgy: it's really not that safe - if you must use it run peerguardian in the background whilst you're torrenting.

hope that helps

This was sent to me with a torrent I downloaded the other day.

There's a new enemy out in BT land call ZipTorrent. Basically the short SP is, there ******ers jump on popular and new torrents and fill the void full of ****. They dont upload or download, they just fake stuff and stop people connecting.

However, clever ******ers upon the net discover these and bring the new to help combat such issue.

I'm no guide writer but heres a little run down for you PG2 users to block some of them and help you get connected.

=====================================================================================

Open notepad. copy and paste the IP Ranges below in to it. Save and close. Call the file whatever you want. Move it to you Peerguardian folder (C:\\Program Files....ect)

Open PG2, click List Manager. Click Add. Add File. Browse for the file in the PG2 folder. Write in decsription ZipTorrent or ****ers, whatever you want. Make sure it's set to Block and click OK. PG2 will do the rest and block the ranges.

Chances are, if you're downloading a Cam/TS/Screener, you'll see these IP Ranges blocked alot.

i use utorrent 1.61 , (plus the "silly" vista) dont get the latest one as alot of private trackers have banned any version above 1.70 due to problems , plus like was previously posted install Peerguardian , and run that aswell. plus change the port that might help

if you arwe downloading a non private tracker lie the ones on mininova, where there are hundreds of people trying to leech off multiple trackers the trackers could be overloaded , ive seen that before

Nothing seems to have worked so far, but haven't tried the thing Kazi mentioned yet - think I might just remove the whole thing off my computer and start again, but don't see why it's just suddenly started blocking

I use Emule and it now takes ages to get anything. Although my internet connection is still playing up.

I dont really understand any of these things you're on about, so if somebody could please provide me with some links to how to get started etc via PM then it would be very much appreciated. Thanks :)

How do you watch the downloaded films? I'm used to them being avi files etc, with this I've got loads of archived files and R36 files ???

These type of files generally come in a folder with about 47 files. you need to use "Winrar" to extract the files, which joins them altogether into the one .avi file, a lot of the times these movies are fake or password protected so make sure you read the comments on the movie before hand to get the password or find out if the movie is a legit ,good copy. Also most good uploaders upload their movies in single 700mb/1.3gb file sizes. so try to download these ones first. Hope that helps

I use Azureus client, it is brilliant, the 2.5 is enough. The 3.0 has lots of useless features.

Adie, the .rxx files are part of an archive like a zip file. To extract the file, open the .rar file with either WinRAR (not free) or 7zip (free)
