Power Steering On Lexus Ls400

Hi everyone

new to this forum so, hi!

i have FINALLY been able to afford my nice new lexus LS400 for 1K, horrah, FSH, pearl white

one problem, the power steering has started to leak which is a small leak at the moment, i would like to probably get a rebuilt one if i knew where to get one? :) , also i have heard about a drip tray to fit? does anyone know about this or how to get one etc?

Hi Rio, cant really help with your problem but can only advise that you get it sorted right away. The leaking fluid will drip onto the alternator and cause serious damage. Good luck with the car and welcome to the LOC. Graham.

Sometimes this is just the failure of an O ring.

Trawl the LOC for more info and the USA LOC as well.

As previous reply, don't let it leak into your alternator!

If you mean the O ring at the bottom of the PSFluid reservoir, its about 3 quid from a Toyota garage - PN 90080-30040

I have one sitting in front of me at the moment waiting for me to get off my arriss and fit it :lol:

Aparently just one bolt to remove at the bottom of the reservoir

Great thanks for that, will get one from toyota, is there any advice on fitting or guides? i see what looks like a 10mm bolt holding it in place?

Did also have another thought that it could be the idle up valve, does anyone know how much this costs? might be worth me replacing that aswell.

Stop worring. It's the little rubber O-ring that has know turned a little square on the edges and under the pressure have started to leak out. If you've got the right tool you can get the screw out without taking anything else off the car to get at it.

It shouldn't take longer than about 30 to 40 minutes to do.

If you get stuck just come back and ask, As being a mechanic and having the lexus factory manuals in my hand.

hehe okay thanks for that, was taking a look on the website couldn't find anythin apart from a complete rebuild, but it looks pretty straight forward, i assume it's one bolt for the resivour?

Hi and welcome,

Just to let you know there are 3 bolts holding the reservoir to the PS pump and the LP return pipe needs to be disconnected ( replace the jub clip on reassembly)

You will need to get out as much fluid as possible before removal ( a chicken baster with the squeezy rubber bulb on the end apparently is a good method.

Put some old rags under the pump to catch any remaining fluid so it does not get onto the alternator below.

Replace the O ring and reassemble,don't forget to top up the fluid afterwards to the correct level.
