was talking to a non lexus owner today and he said the only thing he didnt like about the is200 was the front number plate mount, this has never bothered me but got me thinking what it would look like without and a shorter plate?

so is it possible to remove the mount without removing the bumper ie is there bolts behind number plate or by dropping the guard from under the car or does the whole bumper have to be removed? :)

As Rob says, when the number plate is removed there are two additional "holes" that restrict you from just plopping on a shorter number plate without it looking daft. I believe in total there are 4 "holes", 2 for European mounting and the others for the Jap models IIRC.

Look for a topic that Rob (Fluff) started not so long back, asking about number plate positioning etc.

ive always believed that a car looks better with no front plate :D i flushed mine off and couldnt be happier.

Here is a step by step and a few pics of what i done with mine and what it looks like behind the mount. (bare in mind im a automotive painter by trade it may look easier than it really is ;) )

first i cut up old bumpers to make a template too sit in the number plate slot and bonded it in place.

once dried it scotched the area up ready for some bodyfiller.

the time of morning it takes the filler ages to dry so i speeded up the process with a lamp.

once dried and after a few coats i went about shaping the bumper and repairing the splitter.

i was happy with the shape and applied a few coats of primer, starting to look the part already.

she was then ready for some paint, masked it up.
