Hid Light Units

Hey guys, hows tricks. Just new to the forum and wanted to enquire about HID lights. I own a red `02 is200. I`m from Ireland and decided to buy dark HID Halo light units. These are the whole light replacement. I purchased them off e-bay and after numerous chats with jdhondaparts, reassured me that they would fit my car. Of course they don`t.... My mechanic says that they dont fit because the brackets are wrong and it leaves about a 2" gap from light to wing. The gut on e-bay says that he has had a few people with the same issues and they apparently just trimmed the brackets to fit. I dont want to go messing with the lights and not be able to return them. Ant help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Few people on here have got these lights and fitted them. I once tried IS300 lights on my 200 but didn't want to start chopping the wing but it can be done.

If there is a problem with the beam (can't remember who) but someone on here said you change the beam pattern by turning the lens around. Also buy from Hong Kong they drive on the same side of the road as we do so so light pattern should be the same.

Yeah I got them from the U.S and had a feeling that they wouldn`t fit but was told they would work. Anyway I`m sending them back to him with no hassle so thankfully no loss.. Does anyone recommend a shop that will sell them for the right model in Ireland or England? I`ll Keep a note of the Hong Kong purchasing in future, thanks RichOB

Yes another Red Is,didn`t realise they were so popular. Thought they were rare enough, obviously not. Must be in Ireland, not many here...

They are actually pretty rare, with only a few in the club - until now where I think we've had three join up in the last week or two!

Welcome to LOC! :D

If it's HIDs that you're after, you'd be better off just buying a HID upgrade kit (e.g. from eBay), which is dead easy to install and will be a lot cheaper than a new set of headlights.

If it's halos you want though, then that's more complicated (e.g. opening up the headlamps if you just buy the halo rings).

With my limited knowledge here over the past few weeks, where the headlight question has come up a lot, I don't know if there's anywhere that's been discovered yet that reliably sells HID/halo units with the correct beam pattern for RHD drive cars. If there is one, then I'm sure a lot of people would be interested !

I`ll look into those, cheers stevie. I`m sure if they were readily available for the is, most people would have them `cos their a nice bit of kit.

I`ve bought a few bits from e-bay with some poor results and am reluctant to buy again. Is there a particular website that you know of that specialises in the is200 in terms of mods. cheers again for the info

I haven't been here that long, so know a lot less than many around here, but popular sites that come up a lot are ProLex and TDI (those are links to their IS200 sections).

Of course Lexus dealers can provide some bits of kit too.

200red, this is the link for the projector lights

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:RTQ:GB:1123

I mailed them about these lights to which the seller replied;

"Hi, we have both RHD and LHD version so as long as you let us know which one you want, we will be able to send you the correct version of headlight, these headlights are fully legal on the road, it has adjustable unit and and with E-mark approval, we have many previous customers and all pass their country's road regulations, thank you for your interest please let us know if there is anything we can help."

Steviewevie, i thought the same thing about the RHD/LHD drive thing, the guy reckons the factory can produce different sets. Hmm?

It sounds interesting. I haven't been in LOC very long, but in the HID discussions that I've seen before (including ones I found on a search when researching my purchase of HIDs) I've not seen anyone mention that these sort of units are available in RHD configuration. Would be interesting to find out though.

Isn't there also an issue of them needing different fittings into the front of the car too, i.e. they won't fit anyway ? Is it really as simple as "trim the brackets to fit", as in the original posting ?
