Caliper Painting

The secret is in preparation. If you just put the paint on without doing anything it won't last long, but degrease and sandpaper the calipers properly and apply a couple of coats of good quality paint (Hammerite smooth) you'll get a finish that lasts for ages. It's very easy to do and totally worth it. Just don't do what I did when i did mine last year and forget to apply the handbrake when you jack it up. One enormous crash later, the car is resting on it's brake disc trapping the jack underneath it. Not pretty!

This is one of the things that I'm thinking about before doing mine, i.e. the logistics of doing it. Should I just do one wheel at a time, jacking it up as necessary ? Or should I buy some axle stands and get all the wheels off at once ? Hmm ...

One extra complication is that I don't have a driveway, so will have to do it out the back of my house in a car park (which has more room than doing it in the road in the front).

Don't you have an auto? How did that happen in Park? And how did you get the car back up again? :o

If you've got axle stands it's much easier, but I don't so did them one by one on the drive with the standard jack in the boot. Was a bit tiring but I did get a workout from taking the wheels on and off and all the jacking up and down

Even in park there's a tiny bit of sway in the wheels - they're not locked completely still and it only needs to move a tiny amount to topple the jack. I got it up again by taking the jack out of the Corsa we have and jacking it up and retrieving the other one. Wasn't a great day that!
