I am thinking of using my 1994 LS400 as a second car. I have poked around various so called Classic insurance companies online and they are not even coming close to my current insurance! Does anyone run these cars on a classic insurance for about £150 per annum? I know some Ins. co's require you to garage your car but I do not have a garage (well I do really but not one that will acommodate my LS anyway!). Any info. would be helpful.

Thanks.

I don't think a 14 year old car will class as a Classic for that type of insurance, you should be able to get limited mileage policy though. I had a 1972 Mustang 5.7 convertible for less that £200 a year, agreed value and unlimited miles :)

Its never worked like that with any of my classic policys, if its registered 94 doesn't mater when, its 15 years old, some vehicles only have to be 10, I have a 96 honda fireblade on a classic policy with Footman James along with a few outher vehicles. So give it a go

I just had a look at Footman James and fell at the 1st hurdle even though my car is now 15 years old ( just) it's a "grey import" so stuffed.

Try ringing them as the car is a parallel import it might be OK, if not Adrian flux normally do good deals on imports

Cheers,

I am with A plan again for this year for under £300.00 fully comp but would like to get an agreed value policy because even though it's 15 years old I would never get another one like this for the "market value" payout if it came to the worst senario.

I only pay £252 per year fully comp with the Post Office, that includes no claims protection, legal cover with a £250 excess.

This is on a standard UK 98 series four LS.

I bet classic insurance wouldn't be much cheaper ?

Oh what a dream to live in your post code, a lot of insurers wont even entetain mine ( the second worst for claims in the Uk.)

I got £400 fully comp protected 250 xs ,Im 43 have full no claims & 1 SP30 . I did have quotes around the £2000 mark.

Hi Chris, If it wasn't Ilford Essex is more to the point, my postcode is the second most expensive in the country, Way to many accidents around here, Its more like playing on the dodgems than driving, Theft & theft from vehicles is also quite high, vandalism is also a problem, my neighbor has a new merc 600 a 57 plate bently convertable & a vw toureg the bently has been walked the toureg has been keyed the merc he has only had for acouple of weeks so is still ok, Its one of the reasons I like the understated looks of the lexus ( doesnt attract to much attention) also they dont get nicked that often. All in all make it a wonderfull & harmonious place to live.

Thats one of the things I love about my Lexus is its anonymity, only Lexus drivers know they are in something very special.

To most of the uninitiated its just a Toyota, indeed my own car was advertised as a Toyota Lexus.

People simply do not realise its a completely separate marque.

I have my 1994 Jaguar Sovereign insured through RH Specialist Car Division (01277 206911) as a second vehicle (my main car is my VW T4 van) and I paid £106 per annum fully comp with a 5,000 mile agreed limit. Read through the policy and it covers me really well.

Sold the Jaguar this week. Lovely car to drive but they do have a number of common faults-my car seemed to suffer from EVERYONE of them. One would occur so I'd fix it, then the next one would happen, and so on and so on, hence I have sold it. Looking forward to collecting my LS400 this week!

I hadnt thought of classic ins, as i believed it was 20 yrs old - is that for free road tax then??

Good point Steve.

Do these classic car insurance cover you for full repairs of our beloved motors if the vehicle has an accident then. I dread the day someone crashes into me (no, it wont be my fault) :whistling: , and if the AA (£300 fully comp, other vehicles, 350 + 0 excess etc) say to me that its "not worth fixing"!!!! and its a write off 'cos someone tapped my bumper, then i would be most upset and rather volatile after spending lots of cash and many a 'caring' hour looking after the ol' gal.

(Caring for both the car and my wallet, but cursing the spanners and cut hands :whistling: )

F'kin 'ell, the goddamn control arms would make it a write off then, or a major service etc. And especially this years m.o.t!!!

I would want the full repairs done if anything happened on the roads. I understand that a write off is 3/4 of the value of the car (including your excess!!).

So looking at it closely, most insurance co's (or ins.cons !) will only pay for my repairs if they are between the value of £350 and £750.

How much a year??????????????? :tsktsk:

Just insued my LS400-cost an extra £30 over the cost of the policy for the Jag (£136). And this is a second vehicle that is NOT garaged, fully comp, £60 windscreen excess, free legal cover, drive other vehicles, and , never had this before, business cover, which, though I would rarely use it, is handy if the van is off the road.

Insurance companies don't care abot those they insure-they are ther to make their shareholders money, but a good broker has to look after their customers. So remember RH Specialist Car Division (01277 206911) when it comes to renewal.

trying to insure mine at the mo and i'm struggling to get it under £300 fully comp(£225 last year). i do less than 3k miles a year but i cant get limited milage or classic insurance, i've tried them all. its a 97 mk3.

rh couldn't get anywhere near an acceptable figure.

think she'll have to go the journey. not worth keeping at these prices.

I've always found Adrian Flux to be the cheapest for me -I've got a 1991 Cadillac and a 1995 LS400. Every year at renewal I phone several companies and they've never once got anywhere near to Adrian Flux on price.

Last year I paid £300 for the lexus fully comp( plus cover to drive any car)-that was with only one years no claims bonus on that car, much cheaper than anywhere else.
