I have just come back from France after having done 3000 miles and saw one Lexus and that was a German IS.

I guess they are not very popular -

having said that, anything, other than small french sh*t boxes are conspicuous by their absence. Anything remotely expensive i.e. above a BMW 3 series was just non existent or foreign registered.

p.s. I averaged 27 mpg on computer which equated to 22mpg on LPG. This was four up, fully loaded, roof box on all the time and aircon on all the time. It also included a 2 mile round trip every day for the morning croixants. The petrol cost equivalent mpg was 50.01 mpg - not bad eh.

HI I was in France in Sept,I got the same reaction when I drove anywhere in my 97 Ls400,they just stood and stared as the

monster came around the corner, my other- half thought it was comical.and I loved the attention. We done 2424 in 2 wks

I don't know what the M.P.G. was, as we were on L.P.G. @ about 51ppl,who gives a dam, luxury cruisin, and she never skipped a beat.

KARATEPPI

P.S--As the tank is in the wheel well it leaves plenty of room for all the duty free.

Hey! Less of this slagging off Citroens! When Lexus has as much history as Citroen, (or style of the DSs and CXs, say, then they'll be established!

Ill go along with the ds's top cars but the cx hmmm only time will tell. I saw one Ls mk3 outside Paris last year though none in Spain & none in Germany ( I think you would be machine gunned down as a traitor & have merc stars scratched into your paintwork)

I was actually going to start slagging the Citroens off when somebody mentioned the DS. It is a lovely car. Why don't they make these beautiful cars anymore? The Citroen DS was ahead of its time when it was launched with hydraulic suspension.

You're right. The DS was first launched in.......1955! When cars had separate wings, etc! (Ford Pop anyone?) And it got better until 1975, though I wish they'd adopted the Chevrolet Corvair engine that was mooted...Flat 6, air-coled! (I spotted a pic of one recently with the Citroen SMs engine dropped in; Maserati 2.7 litre v-6!!)

I loved my DSs, though obviously now they feel a bit clunky to drive (in my opinion)

The CX Ser 2 was nice to own too.

I guess the C6 is the current version, though I liked the original suspension better. It could do 'sleeping policemen' without slowing! But even the GSA was VERY comfortable and nippy!

I fancy a Mehari now, as long as I can live in the Med with it (I know, Mr Jellybean, I've posted THAT before!)

When I had a problem with my first IS 6/7 years ago in France near Calais, nearest dealership was Paris. Local mechanic didn't have a clue. I just had to pay £50 for him to shrugg his shoulders!

I also spent my holidays in France this year, doing nearly 3000 miles in a '97 400 travelling down to the Tarn Valley. I'd echo the comments about not seeing any other Lexus, but the French simply don't "do" big cars; never have and never will. After nearly 20 years of holidaying there I have to say I can see why.

Whilst the old girl was peerless on the autoroutes, it was, frankly, hopeless on the twists, turns and "lancets" of the mountains. This year I had the kids with me, so we had to take it, but last year my wife and I travelled all the way to Menton, near the Italian border, in a 15 year-old Peugeot 205. It was superb; cruised at 130 kph on the autoroutes and was thoroughly at home in the foothills of the Alps.

I'd happily take the LS back to France if I was visiting the northern half of the country, but anywhere south of the Loire - where it starts to get mountainous - I wouldn't bother.

i just drove through france twice a week ago............through portugal, then spain to san sebastian and then through to calais and back.

I saw a couple in spain and one other than mine in france

on all the big sensible roads in france the drive was great, spain was more enjoyable though.............i have to say i noticed quite a few audi a5 and a6s through most of the journey including a fair few in france.
