Is250 Auto - What Are Your Revs. At Starting From Cold

Recommended Posts

I don't know the number (I'll try and check in the morning), but I'm pretty sure mine are reasonably high - probably around 1500. The car is a little eager to move off the drive first thing in the morning!

Mine starts up at 16-1700, almost immediately drops to about 14-15 then after a few minutes down to 11-12. When it's warm it's down at about 6 to 7. It alarmed me when I first got it but think it's just a characteristic of the car. I thought perhaps it was replacing the charge in the Battery or adjusting itself to the cold.

What I have noticed when it's cold the auto box holds it in a lower gear presumeably to not put load on a cold engine by changing to a higher gear and not wanting to labour the engine. Am not overly concerned, it's much cleverer than me.

As regards reversing out of the garage or manoevering you've just got to keep your foot on the break. Will be interesting to see what happens in the summer, if we get one.

Thanks for replies guys, if anybody gets any lower then please post it up.

Just a quick reply. I noticed mine was 1700 or so, took it to the dealer, who fitted a new control unit - only to see that one at about 1700 as well.

Turns out to be absolutely normal. I find that, as with others, it drops rapidly after a few minutes - or if you put it in drive!

Now if we could get them to warm up a bit quicker (mine often takes 4-5 miles)

Checked mine last night and this morning from a starting temperature of -1 degrees centigrade. Initial cold idle was 1400 rpm, dropping to 1200 rpm almost immediately, then gradually reducing to 600-700 rpm at normal working temperature.
