Gearbox And Transmission

I'm with Steve2006, I think they sent you home with very little fluid in the transmission,

after 'flushing' it, and you and 'mechanic' burned out the transmission.

The fluid runs very hot, and the internals are precision, complicated items,

absolutely reliant on the correct amount of fluid.

They wrecked it in my opinion and the very least they should do is fit you a replacement

off an accident damaged car.

Hi again,

Thanks for all of your advice... I spoke to one of the sales guys at Lexus this am. He told me that the local gearobx guy looked at my gearbox and said it is beyond economical repair. I told Lexus that I will come in tomorrow and sit with them and discuss where we go from here. I have taken all of your comments onboard and will act as you have advised me to do. I hope this matter gets resolved quickly and properly.

Thanks Malc, Royt and Steve and everybody for your help with this,

S

Hi Malc,

I spoke to the sales representative at the Lexus branch last Friday who has been looking after my car. I told him that I had taken advice form the Lexus Owners Members Club and Lexus GB on the matter. I told him about the concerns raised by the members of the Lexus Owners Members CLub ...and that Lexus GB did not approve either. I asked to speak to the MD, as you advised. He said he would look into the matter further. The sales manager at Lexus phoned me 1 hour later and immediately asked me how much I was willing to pay for a gear box from the car breakers. I explained that I paid £1000 for the gearbox from the car breakers earlier that week but that they sent the wrong gear box to me. He then said that he would put a gear box into my car ,supplied by Lexus, and asked me if I would pay £1000 towards it. I told him that I was worried about putting another gearbox in my car incase it "melted" like the previous one. I asked him if he know why my gearbox "melted" and if he was confident that the new gearbox wouldn't melt. He said he would look into this. He phoned me back 30mins later and said that he would put a lexus gearbox into my car and that I would not have to pay towards the gearbox. I only have to pay for the wheel bearing. The gearbox was due to arrive this morning, but didnt, so I won't have my car until next weekend. I hope it all works out and that they put a genuine part in.

Thanks for your help Malc,

S

Sounds like this might have a happy ending, with a bit of luck for a change.

I'd like to know what Lexus said to the garage [if anything] for telling an owner

one of their expensive transmissions had melted...

Hi Roty,

I really wish they would answer that question too... Im still in the dark here mate. Its all very strange.... I can only guess that they forgot to put the transmission fluid in?? I hope the car will run OK when they give it back to me.....

Thanks for your help and advice Royt,

i am convinced they forgot to put the AT fluid back in although I doubt they will ever admit the fact, but a very good result overall BTW do you realise a new wheel bearing fitted by Lexus is over £3500.00! Only joking or am I! lol.

Let us know when you have it back and have them check the fluid level in front of you before you drive off.

Will do Steve....I just want to get another couple of years out of this motor....I hope there is still be some life left in her. thanks for your advice mate,S

Sounds like a good result , but nothing less than you deserve tho' !

Did you get your £1000 back from the breakers for the gearbox sent back ? Hope so ........... and I would tell the Dealer that for all the grief suffered the LOC would expect some sort of compensation ............ freebie wheel bearing job, to at last, after such a long time, getting you back into the car that you will love and cherish for years to come ............. and that the LOC are seriously keeping an eye on the final outcome and would expect nothing less than total satisfaction.

Try it ... you might be lucky :hehe: :winky:

Thanks Malc and Lexynik,

I've got to pay just over £500 for the wheel bearing..... but they are going to look after the gearbox. I really hope they put a new box in ...and not something they picked up along the way. I have been without a car for 1 month now and have had to take my wifes car.. which has left her getting lifts off friends. It hasnt been easy, believe me! I will be relieved to finally get my car back from them.... Im keeping my fingers crossed that they will do a good job... I'll let you know.

Thanks again for your help and advice,

Hi,

New members are always welcome on the LOC but please do not hijack another thread on a different subject for another model, you will get more responses if you post your problem in the GS forum.

Having said all that the 1st thing you need to do is have the fault codes read on a diagnostic tester, this doesn't have to be a Lexus dealer any good independent garage should be able to do this.

Reading this gives me VERY LITTLE faith in using a Lexus dealer for any repairs at all. I also live in Cheltenham so assume the dealer who has caused all these problems is Lexus Cheltenham.A few weeks ago I contacted them to enquire about giving my gearbox a service ( new fluid etc) and initially spoke to a girl on reception who promised someone from the service department would phone me back soon to talk to me about it.Someone did call me back the following afternoon but said as far as they were aware the gearbox was a sealed unit and could not be serviced?? I said this was not the case and they said they would speak to a 'technician' and call me back. They never bothered to call me back.

Last year I phoned Lexus Cheltenham to enquire about the price of a new tyre and they invited me to bring my car in for a 'free checkup' which I did,as it was free.Good news was they said the car was fault free (apart from needing a new tyre). They then tried to talk me into having the car serviced with them. My car had done 72000 miles, the spark plugs and timing belt had been replaced 3 years previously. They said I needed a full service including belt and plug change due to the mileage being 72000!! I told them that they had already been done a couple of years ago.

I don't think they were trying to rip me off-I think that they are just not training their staff properly and that they haven't got a clue what they are doing and being slow on returning calls or not even bothering to return calls is the norm for them.

I did have my gearbox serviced, but by a specialist in Gloucester who deals only in automatic gearboxes.

I hope your gearbox is now finally sorted and would be interested in the final outcome-are you now happy with your gearbox??
