i've found a gadget that looks like an amplifier in the boot. apparentley it's to connect a phone to the car but i can't find the phone in the car. does anybody know how it works or where i could find the phone to connect to it???

Where is the amplifier you found in the boot?

The stereo amplifier is in the boot so I'm guessing it is that one that you found. They did have a phone kit (optional), but from what I remember, the brain box for it was in the center console somewhere and just took care of switching the audio to the drivers door speaker.

i'm not sure if it is the stereo amplifier or not. i was told it's for the phone as it has something about communications written on it. i really need to get in the boot and have a proper dig round and see what it actually is. there's nothing on the center console that looks like a phone or socket or anything so i don't think it has one. it was behind the little wall bit in the boot underneath the subwoofer.

The stereo amp is underneath the CD changer so must be something different. It looks like the tranceiver and speaker relay unit is in that area somewhere, so maybe that part was fitted by default, even if the phone cradle wasn't installed in the centre console.

so if i sourced the parts i could essentially get it running. i bet they're hard to come by though aren't they??? would a lexus dealer stock the parts i need???

I wouldn't have thought it would be economical to do it to be honest, plus which you would probably be hard pushed to find a phone that would plug into it these days. You are better off getting a Bluetooth hands free kit (Parrot or similar) and fitting that. That is what I did, although I did ditch the headunit, CD changer, factory amp and sub at the same time.
