Flashing Instrument Panels Lights

Hi

I'm the owner of a LS400, and it's running beautiful. But of recent my instrument panel illumination lights have begun to flash off and on, as soon as you start up the car in the morning. The lights flash on then the instrument panel goes completly blank, then after driving for a while it will begin to flash then eventually it will come back on. I've found that this happens especially when the weather is cold, so obviously its been happening more frequently of late.

I've been to a Lexus dealership to get a quote, and was given a price of £1,000 + Vat and that doesn't include labour costs. The engineer suggested I should try this forum, and possibly I may get some satisfactory solution to my problem.

So can anyone please give me some idea of what to do, as I love the car so much and don't want to get rid off the car. Its the best drive I've had in any car, and I've been driving since 1985.

Please Help.......

.Hi Chucks, this is a common problem and will deteriorate with age and time sadly.

A simple and effective and inexpensive solution is to hand however.

Chris Vince ( on here ) is a whizz with his soldering iron and fixed mine for I think @£70

You can either take the car to him and he will remove the dash and fix it on the spot ( and feed you coffee for the hour or so it takes ) or remove it yourself and post it off for repair.

I did the former with my M reg Mk2 LS400.

chrisvince@btopenworld.com and 01252 540463

Good luck with it .......... btw, are the needles beginning to fade at the ends too ? don't know if he can fix those at the same time if they are.

I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Hello and welcome the the LOC.

As said this problem is well known and documented.

I you can solder and follow fairly simple instructions you can fix the problem yourself for a few quid if you can't get Chris or a local repair shop to do the job.
