I Really Need Your Opinions Ls400 As Against Ls430

Recommended Posts

Assuming they're the two on Autotrader at £3290 and 3449, that sort of sums up my feeling about the 430 at present. It's a very desirable car, but those two examples are younger than my 400 and have much lower mileage, and yet they're both sheds that cost twice what my 400's worth. No wonder many of us don't trade up to a 430, even though we'd like one.

Don't let 2 bad examples spoil your thinking, just look at the amount of 400's that are in a similar or worse condition, would that have stopped you buying a 400.

I got a fantastic 430 after 2 months of looking at plenty of cars, must have traveled near on 500 miles in all when doing my viewing, but i did succeed in the end.

It really winds me up when they pay a lot of money for a car and then don't keep things neat and tidy, even basic maintenance.

The issue with used cars is ;who's used them.Around 80% of executive cars including Lexus are corporate purchases and most of them leases,so the driver after the novelty wears off does'nt give the same care and consideration that a private owner would. One previous owner discription are sometimes corporate or a leasing company and the car may have had a multitude of drivers. My own was owned by Lexus for twelve months as a demonstrater but then bought by someone who owned it for 13 years and looked after it.it is very difficult to find out just what type of ownership a car as had to suffer but it usually shows in the condition when seen for the first time.

I would always opt for private ownership if possible but after that option as gone you have to judge by appearance more than ownership details.

I have always found that when looking for a car especially eBay or Autotrader instead of reading adverts first look at how many pictures have been posted and the detail shown in them then just how detailed is the description just those two things will speak volumes for the condition of the car. If you have to ask what the mileage is forget it. Mike

I agree but the prospective buyers DO have to read the ad. The number of times viewers ask questions that are already answered can be very frustrating :megaangry:

I agree this can be frustrating but I am talking about those who deliberately leave out mileage, number of pre owners etc if you have nothing to hide then put down all the info you know we the buying public are going to need and the more you put down in the way of info the more confidence that gives your prospective buyers. My 2001 430 has 121k on it with supplying dealers SH up to 80k. Local specialist after that.. Came with 4 almost new Pirellis. Very straight body with just a scuff on front bumper. It was owned from new by a company who build Fire engines and equipment and did most of its miles in the early years. Interior is excellent and everything works apart from the AC(see my other thread).

I couldnt be happier with it......I think it must be one of the cheapest 430 at under 1200 GBP......Really!

Bluesman hi, couldn't help but chuckle ............ I remember my business partner showing me how to just use my mirrors to reverse after he saw me trying to contort in the driver's seat !

It's easy once you get used to it and I can judge how close I am to the car behind from the LS bootlid edge now.

Only taken a few years to get there :msn-oh:

Malc

Being an EX HGV driver Class 1 i often had to reverse blind, so i good look at the parking spot as i was passing helped me take a mental picture of what i needed to do, this 430 slide's into most gaps that some people with a smart would struggle with, hence not the need for the reverse camera, did try one and boy was it hard to do no feeling there.

Trouble is as you get older you soon forget what your meant to be doing and doubting what you have just surveyed so a reversing camera would be a great extra. Mike

Just as a matter of interest, at what age does this start happening? Is 43 too young? ;)
