Help Fitted A Stainless ....

 Share

Recommended Posts

Fitted stainless manifold and decat to my is200 still using standard rear boxs and it's got like a tinny raspy sound around 3-4000 revs which is awful , spoke to where I got it from and I've been told it will wear off after a few weeks , anyone else experienced this , cheers in advance

which manafiold and cat pipe did you fit and how much were they? were there any fitting problems? If you dont like the sound go and have an exhaust specialist make you a back box or the HKS hi power silent.

have you noticed any improvement in performance? Sorry for all the questions but I am looking at doing manifold, sports cat and rear box too.

cheers

Manifold an decat pipe were of eBay and got standard rear box too all for about £260 with late bidding , not done this through choice as where the manifold meets the cat both flanges had corroded away cars on 170k so not done bad but standard stuff is more the the cars worth lol ,, so this is why I went for this option , manifold was a bit tricky to get past the steering column, as performance goes there not the best cars as they are but noticed it pulls bit better in 2nd an 3rd ;) ,, just hope this noise wears off other wise it's getting changed ,

Thanks for the update and yes can imagine the standard stuff would cost a fair bit. I don't think anyone buys a Lexus for performance unless you can afford the ISF, but it isnt too bad if you need to get from A to B pretty quickly. I know some models have a restrictor ring in the exhaust too that needs to go, I am just looking for a bit of an upgrade without spending shedloads too.

will be interested to see if it does settle and how you get on come MOT time with the cats gone.

cheers

As for upgrades go if say it's a must , just feels more responsive , and for the money I couldn't go wrong cheap repair for me to buying standard , and with standard rear box it still very quite which I like , mot won't be an issue for me as I am a tester ;)

I know the issue with some of the eBay manifolds was they didnt have the all the sensor connections, but if it fits fine then i may well go for it. I know there is also a high flow cat on eBay which may help with the MOT for emissions or i can just put the cat back on then swap it back. I know speaking to the guy at TDI, he did say you would notice a difference, nothing massive but it would make a difference.

Thank you for your comment, really helpful.

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

Use fire gum gum exhuast putty, or i use a high tempreture black silicone stuff on the joints, just cake it in it and leave it afew hours to set. I have the same decat stainless pipes as you.
