Been Busy! Calipers Painted, New Front Discs & Pads, Alloys Re

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Had quite the run around over the last few days. :)

Started by getting my alloys refinished in a more OEM anthracite colour. That was followed by 4 new Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta's, and new metal valves all round.

Next stop was to see Darren at Garage Whifbitz in Enfield. He fitted new brembo discs up front, and the Hawk ceramic pads. He also did a brake fluid change while I was there. :)

Last up was the caliper painting. Went to a nice firm over in Letchworth, and left it with them for the day. These are the results (sorry for the dirtier shots, can't wash them for at least 24hrs! Lol).

Really pleased with how they've come out. :)

Needs to be seen in person to appreciate the full effect! ;)

Will do some better pictures once it's had a good clean and polish!!

Cheers.

Peter :)

Orange in pictures always looks worse. I had a reddish/orange in my previous car and they look tremendous in person.

How much did the tyres set you back Peter?

I do like a nice coloured brake caliper. Might have to get mine changed some time but with a metallic blue car will be tricky making the right choice.

Can I ask how much Whifbitz charged for the discs and pads. I have been looking at changing my pads to ceramics as well and they seem like a good company to go to. I assume it can be done whilst you wait as it's a bit of a drive for me.

Bought the set from www.mytyres.co.uk

the fronts were £356.60 including delivery, VAT etc, and the rears were £321.80 for the pair.

£678.40 for the set basically. :)

Only gripe was they were dispatched from 2 different warehouses, so got the rears over a week before the fronts finally turned up.

Cheers.

Hey Andy,

I think silver would work quite well with the metallic blue. It's a personal choice though for sure! ;)

Have a nosey on the Garage Whifbitz website mate. The online shop has a section for the IS-F with all the prices. I sourced my Hawk ceramic front pads when I was in New Jersey, but I am trying to get them to release a set of rears to match. As and when I can get the part numbers for Paul, he will offer them from the shop as well mate.

I waited around at the Enfield workshop to get mine fitted. Took Daz around an hour, hour and a half to do mine.

This is the shop link by the way:

Thanks for that..will have a look at their site. Does their price include fitting?

Fitting isn't included Andy.

Think it's about £40 for the discs and pads if they come off without any issues. If they are seized or anything, will obviously be more.

Nice work Pete, will be good to see the cars side by side with both having slightly different wheel colours and both with callipers painted different colours :)

Will be good to see the two cars together Stu. :)

Doubt i'll make the June meet unfortunately. :(

Get back from LA on the Saturday afternoon. Probably heading over to spend the Sunday with my son (should be having him all weekend really).

Will 100% be at the rolling road day at AMD though mate.

Cheers.

Red would look good on the metallic blue. :)

Even if you do decide to sell the car one day, it's a £200 job to re-paint them. Just knock £200 off the sale price! Simples! ;)

I'm loving the orange! :)

Got my vinyl from eBay in the States chap. Works out around £10 a set. Think Stu bought his that way as well.

I like the orange personally. Plenty of people out there that prefer OEM black though. ;)

As long as you like it, that's all that matters mate.

I like the orange on yours I just don't think it suits the blue. Now red...after googling that just may be the colour.

eBay for decals. I bought a spare set just in case.

Red with the blue will look amazing chap.

Seems like the white decals are out of stock. I've bookmarked them and once they are back I will order two sets.

How do you know which shade of red though? Are there standard shades or is it just down to personal preference?

Just message the chap on eBay. Imagine they will make to order.

Ask for 'brembo red' fella.

Stu

Thanks Stu..will see how much my local paint shop will charge to paint them.

There are different levels of job here. Place I used took calipers off, stripped them, painted them and re-assemble them.

Some companies just leave them on, mask off and paint.

Think mine were painted in situ. Seems like a fair job though. £200 for the four seemed very reasonable, especially with the 2yr warranty. If the paint starts to come off or anything, they will re-do them free of charge.

Did say if the garage force the pads out and chip the paint, that wouldn't be covered. Seems fair to me. :)

Most important thing is to use the proper heat compatible paint. Normal car paints won't cope with the heat that's generated.

These are the guys who did mine for me: http://www.specialisttyres.com/brakecalipers.htm

Drop it off at 9am, pick it up at 5-6pm same day.

Cheers,

Peter :)

Had the vision for it in my head for ages! ;)

Finally managed to get it all done the way I wanted it.

Don't think anyone will confuse mine with anyone else's! Lol.
