Time To Renew My Extended Warranty Again...

Recommended Posts

It's that time of the year again!

I renewed my warranty with Lexus Stockport this time last year. I paid £414.00 for it which included roadside recovery for myself and wifey in any car that we were travelling. I made use of the warranty by having some replacement brake callipers and so it did come in useful. There was a maximum claim of £2000.00 on this warranty.

When I made an enquiry this year, I was told that that particular warranty is no longer available. This year they are offering what they call a "Two for One" option at £795.00 payable at £79.00 per month over 10 months. You get two years cover (for the price of one) and it includes the usual roadside recovery and, any claim can be up to the value of the car. I checked with my local dealer and their offer is identical.

Unless I can find something cheaper with Lexus, I intend to shop around for an independent quote as I intend to change my car in the not-too-distant future. I could I suppose put my sale price up to include the remainder of the two year warranty (it costs £25 to transfer it to the new owner) or, I could take my chances and not bother to renew.

Anyone come across any cheaper options at the moment?

I don't think its a bad idea considering how expensive and dealer only part there are. Also you had the use previously with the calipers and now would have cost you a couple of hundred pounds.

The two year deal comes with free MOT I think?

1. It should be applicable at any Lexus dealer.

2. Yes, you can buy in advance. I bought a second-hand IS250 in July (which came with1 years' warranty) and I paid for an extra 2 years so that I have 3 years' warranty on my car.

Phoned Lexus Southampton today on 01489 666071 and they don't have anyone there called Dennise nor anyone called Dennis either.

I am waiting for a call back from them as they were all busy when I called. I can't imagine that I will get the deal mentioned earlier (in post #9) as they are part of the Snows Group, which is the same group as Lexus Exeter.

I'll see what they have to say when they call me back though and I'll keep you informed.

Edit: Southampton just called back. Price is the same as the other branches at £795 for 2 years.

It is the CT that is priced at £495.

So, that's that then. Do I do it and class it as an added extra for whoever buys my car or, do I take my chances and not have any cover for the period between now and when I part with my car, which will probably be in the early part of next year.
