  2. hi i took a wire from the heater controls small connector green wire to the connector above the earth wire on the sat nav i have the early sat nav and my car is a 2001 best to check with a electric meter first hope this helps
  3. hi i have just wired my switches up i put a power feed to the terminal above the earth wire i took the power from the heater controls mine was the green wire in the small connector but check with a meter first ps i have the early sat nav hope this helps
  4. Hi did you find out where the wire goes to as i have done the same conversion to a sat nav and would like the switchs to light up but dont want to just want power the connections at random in case it blows the circuit board cheers tony
  5. Hi a lot of garages seem to replace the caliper but we have them in the workshop and found when the caliper is striped its the area between the dust seal and the fluid seal has gone rusty all it needs is the seals removed clean up the rusted area clean a refit the seals this seems to be the problem usualy but without seeing your caliper i cant say yours can be repaired but its worth a try
  6. hi just done the same what pin in the back of the sat nav did you power up to light up the switches cheers tony
  7. hi when was the last time you changed the gearbox oil and filter
  8. Hi change the heater rad as i have replaced heater rads on cars and trucks i have flushed out the old rads then stripped them down and you would be surprised how clogged they still are so you maybe wasting you time trying to flush it out or take it to a rad company they can test the flow rate
  9. hi you should always check with lexus in the uk for the price first as the price on parts are coming down as these cars are getting older now and the dealers dont want to be stuck with the parts i repair cars and trucks for a living and i have never seen the dealers dropping the price of parts so much they are trying to push the motor factors out the way so always check first you will be surprised and nothing fits as good as original parts
  10. hi i had the creaking noise from the front when the brakes where applied on a lock it turned out to be the pads moving in the calipers just remove pads clean where the pads sit apply some copper slip to the areas you have cleaned also if your caliper is starting to sieze if you take it of pull the piston out take the seals out its the small area between the seals that rusts or just below where the seal sits just clean up and refit and bleed
  11. hi the only thing you need in the auto is the centre armrest fitted one last year and you would not believe how much you need one as agent x said you try driving in london and auto is the only way to go
  12. hi we get cars in the workshop with sticky calipers and when we strip the caliper down the area between the seal and dust seal has rusted also rusts below the seals and this will make the pistons stick all you need is remove the seals and clean the area up with wet and dry and clean the seal area with a dremel with a wire brush attachment then when its rust free clean with contact cleaner and reassemble with new seals bleed system and road test hope this helps
  13. hi first when you check the water level do you check the rad or expansion tank level you need to check both if they are both full then the problem could be else where take car to a garage that can do a sniff test this will tell you if the head gasket is gone or not as it will read if any gases are getting into the cooling system if you have rust in your rad this means you have no or little antifreeze in the system and the engine block is starting to rust inside does your engine still over heat if you leave your a/c on hope this helps a little cheers tony
  14. hi thats the right temp if you have no oil leaks theres only 2 ways your engine can burn oil down the valve guides or up past the piston rings both of these jobs will be expensive i think someone had this problem before on this site and i think it was the breather pipe valve but not 2 sure
  15. hi tony, thanks for the reply. the milage is correct to the MOT certs i have and the HPI report. i have tried this and there is no smoke when i do as you described so still none the wiser. thank you for the advice though and to everybody else. looks like a trip to the garage for me then ha ha hi is the engine running at the right temp
  16. hi are you sure the milage shown on the clock is correct it could be valve seals easy way to check this when your on the motorway get up to 70mph with the car in a low gear engine about 5000rpm check in the mirror make sure the road is clear take your foot of the throttle with the car still in gear this will cause a depression in the manifold and draw the oil down the valve stems as the revs drop to about 3000rpm put the throttle down hard and look in the mirror and see if there is a puff of smoke if there is it will point to the valve stem seals hope this helps a little tony
  17. hi i think you will find all the is 200 have trouble from time to time starting i know mine does check your volt meter when you are driving it should be about 14 volts but if you have the lights on and the fan running at the same time when ticking over the volts will be 12 as the engine revs rises the volts will rise to 14 so lights will get brighter and the fan speed will rise but if the volts go over 14 to 15 then your alternator is over charging hope this helps a little
  18. hi half of your cambelt is worn away we get cars in my workshop with cambelts that look in better condition than yours that have snapped so i recommend that you dont start the car at all and get it towed to your garage i know this sounds bad but we see the damage that is done when the belt snaps we have had customers scrap the car because the cost of repair is more than the car is worth good luck
  19. hi the mist part of the switch is if you pull the switch towards the steering wheel the wipers will operate once the low med high part is the intermitant part but you have to turn the switch to position one first for this to work hope this helps cheers tony
  20. hi was the fans running when the car was running if they where then this will draw air through the rads and this is probably why you felt heat from the arches to adjust the handbrake you need to put the car on level ground chock the front wheels then jack the car up put axle stands under the car and remove the rear wheels release the hand brake if you look at the rear hub there is a small rubber bung between the studs pull this out then turn the hub till you can see the adjuster this will look like a small cog turn this cog with a screw driver till the hub does not move then back it off till the hub turns freely then do this to the other hub once this is done use the handbrake a couple times and make sure the hubs still run freely then just put bungs and wheels back on good luck if you cant do this just take it to a garage this is only half hour job hope this helps
  21. hi does the noise go if you just rest your foot on the clutch pedal
  22. hi if you go to machine mart they sell a filter wrench with three fingers on it and as you turn it, it clamps down on to the filter this is what we use at work
