  1. I know the local authorities are struggling at the moment and running out of grit but this method lulls you into a false sense of security. On my way home tonight I stopped on a main road near home at Swanwick Derbys to call into a shop, as I got out of the van I saw a gritter lorry approaching all ablaze with its flashing lights so stopped behind the van awaiting the inevitable sound of flying grit. There was no sound and indeed no grit being spread. I would assume there is some kind of monitoring system on the vehicle to indicate the hopper has run out so to carry on to me is a complete waste of time and diesel. Or is this a ploy to make people think the roads have been gritted when in fact they haven't. Obviously it is at the end of the day the car drivers decision whether to drive on the roads or not and take the necessary precautions. So even if you see a gritter lorry "spreading" don't assume it is and the road is not covered in black ice.
  2. Hi, Did you switch on the wipers when they were still iced up and stuck to the windscreen? If so you may have either disconnected a linkage or broken it. As ihpj says have a look at the locknut on the wiper arm and then if under warranty get the dealer to repair. There is only one motor driving both arms connected via what Lexus call the "Link Assembly Windscreen Wiper."
  3. Hello and welcome to the LOC You have wisely purchased the best Lexus model although all the IS owners will dissagree
  4. I have a redundant one in my garage if you want it for free just pay me for the P+P
  5. Normally for speeding in a 30MPH limit and being caught on a camera you would get a fixed £60.00 ( I believe it is now £75.00 including the victims of crime tax) and 3 points. Because of the excess speed you will be appearing at court to explain the reasons behind it. The minimum fine is £100 and the maximum £1000 ( £2500 on motorways) although these are means tested related. I would plead guilty, appear at court in person apologise alot and grovel for the best outcome. Had you been clocked at 60MPH in a 30MPH zone or above you would have been looking at a dangerous driving charge which carries a 1 year obligatory ban, up to a 2 year prison sentence and an unlimited fine.
  6. Hello and welcome to the LOC, You are not quite in the right place with this topic so maybe one of the mods will move it to the LS forum where you will get more responses. With it cranking over it would seem the battery is OK and if I remember correctly there are no distributors or HT leads on the series 4 models. The fuel lines will not freeze with petrol in them. Is the engine management light staying on? Might be worth getting the OBDII codes read to see if there is a problem. The only major items required to fire an engine are air, fuel and a spark and several sensors to tell the engine computer what is going on. If you have all the 3 mentioned above the crankshaft sensor if faulty will prevent the engine firing but these generally fail when hot not cold If you have Home start or equivalent rescue cover get them out.
  7. It has always perplexed me why whenever we have cold weather the amount of schools that are forced to close due to the boiler breaking down. Do schools have very unreliable boilers in general or do they get supplied with special boilers that automatically fail when the temperature reaches 0 degrees. It seems strange that other government buildings don't seem to have this problem.
  8. Getting the complete assembly off is fairly easy follow the lexls tutorial. Removing and refitting the spring ( or in your case just refitting) requires a spring compressor. If you have a friendly local garage it may be better to take the whole strut to them and ask them to fit the spring to the new one. Below is a link showing the various components of the strut. http://www.lextreme.com/ascon.htm
  9. Hi, The Scorpion factory is about 3 km from my house if you PM me a photograph of what you need I will contact them for you.
  10. From looking at the pictures I would say no the later model inner light cluster seems to come to a point at the top whereas the earlier model is more rounded here. I would like to even ask the price of a set at Lexus!!! Just had a look at the relevant part numbers and they are different.
  11. HI, i have found 3 different styles fitted but for 18 inch wheels the cap should be 5 pointed in shape if so the part number is 42603-48060 The other 2 types ( round) are 42603-50270 and 42603-50290.
  12. 63 views but no replies? I viewed the post yesterday along with 62 other members but not having a 98 model cannot be sure I know on my 94 that the doors can be "double locked/deadlocked" and I would think yours is similar. The reason I say this is that if you unlock the car with the remote but then don't open a door within 30 seconds the doors automatically relock but then there is a further locking sound 10 seconds after which I assume is the deadlock. If you have the drivers handbook it should be fully explained in that. We are not all experts in Lexus technology and merely try to help other members to the best of our ability but if no one has an answer you will not receive one,the fact that 63 members have read your post should indicate their interest in trying to help you.
  13. Hi Neil, Not as far as I know it may be worth asking a Lexus Stealer though. Cheers, Steve
  14. Don't tell me the displays blacked out. You can get the LCD replaced I think Chris Vince still does them on this forum drop him a PM.
  15. Hi, All models have remote locking but it sounds like you didn't get the blipper key, the bad news is the key is part of the central locking computer systems so you need a new key and the matched chip to fit into the board. There are some on Ebay (* genuine brand new ) but they are $250.00.
  16. To begin with no I'm not the guy on Ebay selling alternators. Regarding the security code for the radio try the last 3 digits of your VIN. What you should have done was to disable the security code before removing the battery. Remember you only have 5 attempts to input the correct code or the system will lock out completely. If you need the proceedure let me know.
  17. Hello and welcome to the LOC
  18. Sounds like we're all having problems in the snow. As far as I know the "snow mode" means the car sets off in 2nd gear instead of 1st but if you don't have this facility there is nothing that can be done to "force" the box into a higher gear at setoff. Traction control on mine makes no difference as far as I can tell I just get the bumping noise when it's operating and the trac light flashing to tell me it is. Other members have suggested getting some additional weight in the boot, reducing tyre pressures slightly and using as little throttle as possible. If you do get stuck it is OK apparently according to the LS manual ( check yours 1st) to "rock" the car by going from reverse to drive repeatedly to try and get out of trouble.
  19. Upfront apologies but did you use CALGON in the washing machine as "Key fobs last longer with Calgon" Seriously if you got to it quick enough and dried it out before any corrosion sets in you have agood chance of recovery.
  20. Two of the fault codes are indicating either a faulty or misadjusted TPS there is a set up proceedure for these and for testing the oxygen sensors on the link below. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/ Is the idle speed correct when the engine is fully warmed up,should be around 650 RPM with the air con off. Other things to check are the condition of the air filter and the plugs and leads. Another thing is to check the EGR pipe is not leaking as this can upset the emmisions as can a leaking exhaust system. Also check the crankcase ventilation system ( take off the oil filler cap with the engine running and then check how much blow you get out of the filler it should be very little unless there is a problem) As I said before you really need to get some sort of manual they are fairly cheap on Ebay
  21. Now that you've recovered from hyperthemea and my sad sense of humour did the reprogramming work?
  22. This may help ( it's real help this time lol) http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_progr...exus_ls_430_key
  23. Mines no better, even with traction control it's impossible to get any forward or backwards movement with anything but idle throttle levels, another problem with automatics is even when applying the brakes the drive is still being applied to the rear wheels. The best thing to do is practice with a fully laden supermarket trolley as the handling characteristics are the same
  24. Hi, Sorry can't really help here on this one, but can try and amuse you, was it fishtailing before you changed the battery??? :D
