  1. Hi UK_IS200 Depends on mileage - you'll need to get a pretty high mileage one to get a Sport for 15-16k. I bought my S for 16.5k last september - it's a 2000 V-reg and had just 18k miles on when I bought it. I guess you could get an SE with 30-40k miles for that. Try the lexus web-site - they have a uk wide database of used vehicles that you can search by price etc. The cars come with the remainder of their 3 year warranty and they check them over before they sell them second hand so there are few worries. There are few common problems - there's a thread here somewhere listing them and the dealers are really good at fixing them under warranty. I had a wheel alignment prob and had 4 shocks replaced, plus wheel alignment done, plus car washed, plus 3ltr RX courtesy car - all under warranty. Apart from that just make sure you check over the paintwork for scratches, stone-chips etc. BTW I'm in Reading too - the dealers there are truly excellent. Which salesman did you talk to? David dealt with my purchase and was very helpful. When I went in again after a few months he said "Hello Chris" - impressive!
  2. For reliability, handling and maintenance costs it's got to be.... a lexus. :D
  3. mine came colour coded as standard - I've a silver car....:D
  4. I bought a Paddy Hopkirk roof rack for my old cavalier and it took a couple of hours to build and without bits of cardboard wedged under it would have scratched the roof. After I got my IS200 I bought some lexus roof bars - they are about £150 list price but I got a £30 discount by going through the salesman that sold me the car. They are sooo easy to fit being made for the car and just clamp on really firm. They have nice rubber feet and there are some stick on clear plastic strips to go inside the door opening for extra protection. Not cheap but I highly recomend them - not sure if the GS ones are the same though....
  5. The wide angle one is awful - made me feel like I was going cross-eyed - the SE I test drove had one. Fortunately my S has a normal one. :D
  6. Mine has something different - not a moon roof or a sun roof but a roof...
  7. Thanks -that makes me feel happier about spending £16,500 on a 2yr old S! [Edited on 7-3-2002 by javadude]
  8. Impressive. Worked for me - it pointed at west Reading.
  9. I didn't even get one...:(:(:( Just 'cause my kids climb over their furniture and play with the water fountain.... Mind you bet that guy in the US that trashed 18 cars didn't get one either... [Edited on 7-3-2002 by javadude]
  10. 1. You can find out what issues have been fixed under warranty by other owners and make sure that you get them fixed too. 2. Its sort of social like.... 3. Dunno
  11. Trust me - it didn't look like that picture - it was much duller - think British Rail van...(sorry SuperChargedL you've probably not seen one of these in Finland! I'll see if I can find a picture.) [Edited on 5-3-2002 by javadude]
  12. yes - trade sales do imports at about 2k off UK price - £15,999 for a brand new S trim IS200 (£17,999 for an SE) - only thing is they just have a choice of yellow or white. Perhaps you can order other colours...? www.trade-sales.co.uk
  13. Hi Kamlex! Do you live/work in Slough? I work at the Regus building near Trade Sales. I went over and had a close look at the yellow IS200 - I agree - it really is naff!
  14. Easy way is just big uk and europe maps and plot onto whichever is relevant. I guess you could have regions like the lexus web-site but anything more detailed (eg www.mapquest.com) would be difficult. I guess the thing to do is get the maps as an image and get the servlet to read them in, plot the locations on it and then cache this for sending out as the gif byte stream. We'd need everyone to be precise with their location in the member profile and some way of mapping town name to location on the map image. That would be the difficult bit - perhaps this would need to be semi-manual...unless we can find some nice (free) off-the shelf web-site map tool...
  15. Yes same Artemis (they've changed the name from "...Management Systems"). Don't know if I was here at the time - I joined 2nd January last year. Ray and Sophos are still alive and well. (I can see into Ray's office from where I'm sitting.) The building you visited is being ripped apart to be rebuilt though - we left and are now in a Regus building down the road.
  16. Met someone yesterday who works for cosworth on the Arrows and Jaguar engines - he wasn't so happy! :D
  17. If something depresses the centre of the roof slightly then that sets off the alarm, eg washing it, cat, cover in wind etc. I guess the internal sensor is in the light fitting in the centre of the roof on the IS and the flex in the roof is enough to set it off. 18. I read some minister type person said that the roads are being used "anarchially" (or something like anarchy)... Yea like we drive on them - real naughty of us huh?
  19. I've got a Java class somewhere that I found on the web - it allows you to build a GIF without having an observer, ie any display, so you can use it safely from a servlet process. It's also compatible with any JDK and doesn't need any of the Java2D etc libraries because its so simple. I think because it doesn't actually save to a gif file it gets around the Compuware copyright issue? You get the servlet to return content as mime type gif and add an image tag to a web-page with the src attribute set to the gif servlet. Or something like that. (I did a graph servlet based on stock prices for a stand at an Oracle OUG Exhibition once.) I guess if you do it using any other server-side language you can do the same - shove the bits down the http and change the mime type.
  20. I like the map idea - I could code it for you as a Java servlet but I guess that's not much use - I guess you're using PHP or something for server side stuff.
  21. Did you spot the IS200 in the Toyota Yaris tv ad with the postman? At first I thought it unusual to see one in a tv advert until I realised it was an ad for a toyota. Has anyone spotted a lexus in any other toyota ad?
  22. The What Car award impressed me too - the car beat the bmw 3 series (and everyone else) and stood up to attacks for 5+ minutes after which time thieves are meant to move onto easier targets. Sooo I've opted for no additional security. As the security gets old and easier to break I might start using my autolok again - the half disk steering wheel lock that also manages the 5+ minutes, unless that becomes beatable.
  23. So - I was a tourist! Well sort of - on business. You can't beat the atmosphere around the Grande Place on a winters evening with the smells, food displays etc. :wow: The beauty of the "paving stones of brussels" is its pretty cheap but good food. I used to travel to Brussels a bit in my last job, Ghent once (also Poland, Greece, Germany) now I just work in Slough. :D
  24. Ah Belgium - home to my favourite restraunt - Aux Paves de Bruxelles just off the top corner of the Grande Place in Brussels. Best place to buy steak n chips. (And they do this nice chilli seafood starter and then there's the profiteroles...) I'm getting hungry all this talk of foreign parts...
  25. I had to scrape the ice of my car windows this morning...:(
