  1. The wife has a Xantia Activa (I'd love to compare it to a Soarer Active!!) and the ex-wifes 1st car was a chevette, and I've had various french cars (2 XMs, a BX, couple of xantias and a couple of pug 505's), and had various rover's as well (p5 and a couple of p6s) so yeah that does compare. The Rovers and the shove-it were the only ones that got polished tho :P This is getting scary realising how many cars I've had over the years.
  2. Memories! I had a Wolseley Six,used to love the lit up badge on the front chrome grill, many years before Lexus came on the market. I also had the extremely rare wedge 2200 Wolseley (it evolved into that monstrosity known as the Austin Princess ) albeit only for a few months. Very strange to drive, unreliable as hell, couldn't see out the back, acres of room inside and almost citroen-like ride quality. The light didn't work either!!
  3. Thanks for clearing this up.ok been to see an LPG expert ( so he says) and he said that I have a 70 ltr tank ( 58ltr usuable ) and that the system is old also i tend to think when the red light starts blinking its near empty but its not it actually has about 15ltrs remaining. so im gona let it run dry and fill up to the top. He also said if it fills up and not used up all ltrs as expected keep pushng more in as the floating sensor inside tends to move about and if gas is still going in but slowly carry on it should stop by it self or untill you get to about 55ltrs - is this correct? if so that would mean that I fill up less hence why i need filling up every 3 days. Im going to another fitter tomorrow to get another opinion. Your LPG fitter is correct - he has described exactly what I have to do. I rarely run it to empty as my regular routes mean I stop by Morrisons every 200 miles or so, meaning I fill up every 2 or 3 days. My light can blink after as few as 125-150 miles. Tends to blink constantly from about 180 - 190 miles. Around 55ltrs is correct, but it can depend when you fill up. Liquids are bigger when warmer so you get more fuel if you fill up when it's cold unless I've got that round the wrong way of course. And yes, I was as surprised as you when I "discovered" the location of the petrol tank, when i was bored one day and started looking for mislaid money/tools etc. in the boot.
  4. My tank is 70ltr tank that takes approx 58ltr from empty (they only take 80% of their capacity as a safety thing) and I get about 250 miles from that doing approx 85% mundane motorway miles. Mileage is roundabout the 20mpg mark but I don't measure it often enough to be absolutely certain. Oh yeah, you won't have to cut the Boot mat in half for the spare as that is where Usuf's tank is - you will need to get access to the tools amd jack etc tho :P
  5. Every 3 days is the norm for me too. I am having mine serviced at TLS this afternoon and will ask them (they do LPG fitting now). I imagine that you can, but at the loss of even more boot space (if you carry your spare in the boot).
  6. If your having to pay the bank £5 a month for the priveledge of looking after your money so they can earn even more revenue from you then I would change banks asap. If you have other reasons for staying with your bank then threaten to leave anyway and then screw em for a better deal. If you do decide to change banks, the best buy for ages is the alliance and leicester account that pays about 5% interest and has an interest free o'draft (for the first year anyway). It has the bonus that if I (or a friend who already has an account) recommend you, we can both get £25. sometimes they do a promo and you can get £50. I recommended the missus and we both got £50 each :D Details of this account is all on the moneysavingexpert site anyway. I only wish I knew this 15-20 years ago when I was struggling to keep within my overdraft and usually failing due to the folly of youth and the love of ancient P5 & P6 Rovers and Triumph Heralds etc.
  7. Cheers Ian After years of owning diesels and :tsktsk: haynes manuals, i might be tempted to lift the bonnet in the summer now :P
  8. 1994 M Bought March 06 with 106,400, Now it has 123,800.
  9. I thought Golf gti (and TDi) owners had it inbuilt to wave and flash at everything that was in front of them whether they are driving at a sedate 60 or a hurried 120 I tend to hide in my car cos it is usually filthy
  10. This link here may help. There is also a thread on the LS part of the forum about replacing needle lights. Should be of use - the principles the same.
  11. Apart from the LPG conversion and a dent from a Tesco lorry mine's standard - I do too many miles and I'm too clumsy to even think about modding it. Although I might de-cat it :P
  12. Cheaper still to carry a lump of wood in the boot - my bonnet struts are pretty bad at the moment and I'm gonna start following my own advice :D
  13. Interesting thread especially as my GS is giving me some interesting symptoms at the moment.... My car was converted at 88,000 miles and I bought it with 106,000 miles on the clock. literally 350 miles later it started back-firing and the engine was very lumpy (basically firing on 5). Lexus reckoned it was a valve and sympathised with my plight knowing they would have to take 3 or 4 thou off of me to either replace or repair the head. Fortunately, I got the head sorted at the local engine centre and they reckoned the head was ok, but they skimmed it, reground the valves, replaced the timing belt etc. as a precaution. The one thing they did do though was replace the spark plugs as they were pretty much shot to pieces. 17,000 miles later (100 a day mostly motorway) it is running a bit rough and has back-fired a couple of times. I've a very strong feeling it is the plugs again and may attempt getting the throttle body off this weekend to look at the plugs. I hope I'm right as I have run it with flashlube most of the time :o until my "bottle" fell off its mount and got tangled up at the front of the engine I'm now wondering should I fit higher spec plugs (if that is indeed the problem), or should I ease of the happy pedal a little although I don't tend to go over 75 at all and do a sedate 65 on my way home of an evening.
  14. I was with them for a couple of years and had no probs whatsoever. Changed to the Homecall package with the phone and everything cos it worked out cheaper and went up from the standard 2.2Mps to "up to 8Mps depending where you are". Lo and behold we are getting similar drop-outs at the same time. Interestingly the connection in the day tends to be around 5.6Mps but when the drop-outs occur it tends to reconnect at a slower speed, anything down to 4.4Mps Aah well, it's still good enough for porn, forums and email which is the interwebs prime use isn't it? :P
  15. There's quite a lengthy blurb about O2 sensors in the GS section including some links about where to get them cheaply and how to fit them. Don't know if the V8 will be easier or harder than the 6, I'll leave that answer to the more mechanically minded! :duh: Here's the link: o2 linky
  16. Not sure about how it may affect warranty or whatnot (I've rarely driven or owned anything under 10 years old) but could you convert your current (or upgraded) SC to LPG? this would mean you would avoid the congestion charge and would lose some of the power, but if you drive in London you are unlikely to use the power to it's full capacity anyway. I do remember seeing on TV that the 450h has about 10% more power than the equivalent petrol version :P
  17. Uma Thurman in Kill Bill springs to mind... :P
  18. When I test drove a 1990 Celsior with the missus last year, I asked how old she thought it was and she said "dunno, 5 or 6 years old?". She was quite shocked when I told her the real age. :tsktsk: I only wish I'd put my foot down and bought it. A Celsior is next on my list when I tire of the GS. In case your wondering, the Toyota Celsior is the Jap equivalent of the LS400 but a hell of a lot higher spec and usually a fraction of the cost.
  19. Excellent find and with the amount of miles I inflict on mine (approx 500/week ) I will definitely be investing in some replacements.
  20. Sounds like it varies from company to company. After *** knows how many years of careful driving, I had two accidents in quick succession :duh: before buying the GS. The first was a 50/50 the second was my fault adn each time I lost 2 years NCB. My accident a couple of weeks ago may rumble on a bit as the bint that ploughed into me is disputing liability. Hopefully the evidence I have accrued will be in my favour as I can't afford teenage insurance. I can't afford the excess either as I am getting married next weekend and my hard-earned has to be diverted elsewhere
  21. When you first look under the bonnet and think "Where the hell are the spark plugs??" It's the bit that's in the way :P I haven't dared mess with mine yet - I wouldn't dare!!
  22. Yeah, I've just checked and there are pics inside with the IS250 plate on and their "thief test" model was an IS 250SE. It came top :P
