  1. I must admit to being tempted by the first one. There's a lot to be said for it even with the mileage. History, 2 owners, recent cambelt change and an interesting ~300 mile test drive home to get used to it.
  2. Thank you everyone for your advice. Very useful. I've perused most of the ones on Ebay and hope that my perfect car doesn't appear just yet. Or if it already has, has been for sale long enough for me to haggle a bargain. Annoyingly, an LPG converted mk4 LS400 sold very cheaply last month less than a mile away from me! Luckily I spoke to the seller and had a good recommendation for a local garage to do the bits I can't. The 1990 one I looked at had this, and ultrasonic mirrors as well. I'm happy to waft along at legal speeds these days so I'd be happy with the Japanese restriction. 180KPH if I remember correctly
  3. In about a month's time I'll be financially fluid enough to buy my dream car but after (stupidly) turning down a 1990 Celsior with more toys than I could ever want in 2006ish and ending up with a GS300, I don't want to make the same mistake again. My budget is between £4,000 and £5,000 and if not already fitted with LPG then that will need to be factored in. I'll be doing a 200 mile a week commute plus personal so I can just about justify an installation. I imagine the installation to be around £1,600 give or take and I'd prefer BRC or Prins if poss. My targets with what's on the market at the moment are an LS430 already converted that's done 222k miles but possibly pre-facelift (registered Oct 2004) https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/lexus-ls430-limo-auto-lpg-22-lexus-mdlr-stamps-fatherson-ownd-full-spec/1329193671?utm_source=savedsearches&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GT.TRIGGER.SA&utm_content=none&utm_source=savedsearches&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GT.TRIGGER.SA&utm_content=none This later one which is a facelift. Lower mileage but I'd have to add in the cost of conversion. http://www.vlcars.co.uk/auto/1081 Or there's that £4,000 Celsior on Ebay mentioned in another post somewhere. There are others around but they look a bit too tatty. I haven't ruled out going to my local Lexus dealer and asking if they get anything in px but that's a bit of a long shot. Someone mentioned in another post about LPG only being possible on pre-2006 cars. LS460s are just out of my budget at the moment and I'm not entirely sure I'd prefer one over a 430 but what's the reason for non-conversion?
  4. The F-bomb didn't bother me too much. What really grinds my gears is the merkin's pronunciation. It's shas-see not cha-see. I watched a "how to" video a few years back on changing a screen on a motorbike. I winced each time the narrator said grommet because he kept saying "groomette"
  5. Could it be something as simple as a leaf finding its way into the air vent system? Admittedly very unlikely given the pollen filters etc but not impossible. I know I've had that with some older cars. I've currently got an old parking ticket on the passenger side corner of the windscreen that I keep forgetting to move and sometimes that makes a racket if the blower catches it. Could be something like that maybe?
  6. Thanks for the advice Steve. Why only pre-2005 though? Not that my budget would stretch to anything newer. Oh, and I finally worked my original password having not logged in for a few years! @BachelorDays, my diesel A6 is 20 years old and although not too smooth was an absolute bargain. £250. The only downside was it had done 195k miles but I'm only the second owner and it has full Audi service history. It's now done 212k miles and apart from routine servicing, just needs a rear caliper replacing - I've got new discs and pads to fit as well so when I get my LS, someone will get a cheap workhorse - or my son if he learns to drive.
  7. If you are South of the river, or prepared to travel an hour out of London, then Medway Dual Fuel should be pretty good. I'm not sure about their installations but they are always very busy and have been very helpful in sorting out my dualfuel Xantia. One of their guys recently sold his LS400 on the bay of fleas recently - had I known he was selling it, I would have bought it instead of the factory-fitted French money-pit I did buy
  8. I'm also surprised that there isn't an LPG station near you. Living in Kent myself, I pass quite a few every day on my commute (Margate to Maidstone). The only part of Kent that I'm unfamiliar with would be Hythe/Dymchurch (the BP garage by Dover Western Docks sold it) or Tonbridge/Cranbrook/Swanley. The best price for LPG when I had my GS was Morrisons at Strood. It was worth the 10 mile diversion especially with the amount of points I earnt - I used to get a £5 voucher every 3 or 4 weeks or so.
  9. What about Smiffie at Soarer World/Toyota Import Forum? I know he specialises in Soarers but if he will do yours, I would trust him more than most. Mind you I haven't been on TIF for about 6 months so don't know if anything has changed on there.
  10. My GS has a 70 ltr tank in the spare wheel space of my GS which takes approx 58 ltr due to the safety mechanism of only filling to 80%. It's a pain as I still carry a full size spare in the boot as i don't really trust tyre-weld and can't be a**ed to source a space saver. The larger boot-type ones will fit comfortably in the boot of an LS and can go up to about 100 ltrs in size.
  11. I would recommend These guys as they know their stuff and are closer to you than they are to me. Hope this helps
  12. Interesting as mine has similar problems. I have had my leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm changed and that improved things no end, but I still have the problem that after about 30miles steady motorway mileage at 70 or just below, my lpg system starts flashing at me. Before the bits were changed it was also doing this. It has been diagnosed as the lpg system reacting because the O2 sensors need changing, but I haven't got round to changing them yet. My alternative method at the moment is to accelerate up from about 65 to about 75/80 then flick it into neutral, kill the engine, wait 10-15 seconds for the lpg to reset, then restart and flick it back into drive. I'm probably killing my gearbox by doing this but I do do it safely and when I have a very clear road.
  13. Think the messages worked as he's changed his ad to say its an AS. Don't think it is LPG powered tho :duh:
  14. found the linky here and oops, there isn't a D-Spec, just a C-Spec with an F pack.
  15. Before my missus talked me out of buying it :tsktsk: I test drove a 1990 Celsior that had massaging seats. IIRC the Celsiors came in 4 specs - A, B, C and D and the one with all the bells and whistles was the D spec. I think I may have a link to all the specs somewhere, I'll post it later if I remember and if I find it. Just shows how advanced the Jap spec ones are if they weren't fitted to the UK ones until 12 years later!
  16. I had that problem the other day. Turned out to be the outer casing had been "squeezed" a little bit because disc 1 (or 12) wouldn't eject. A bit of working with the thumb and it's now fine. However it did force me to listen to the few tapes that I had floating around the front and I found an ancient but hilarious tape of Derek and Clive :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk:
  17. Comedy: Airplane for the non-stop gags, Life of Brian because there should always be room for Python in your life. Western: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly Fantasy: LOTR (all) Quotability: Withnail & I "I have a heart condition, if you hit me, it's murder" Drama: The Elephant Man
  18. Get an LPG conversion!! The conversion will be cheaper than the first servicing/breakage bill on a Beemer You know it makes sense. Back to the Rad, last time I needed a rad done, I got it reconditioned at a place in Canterbury. I know it was very reasonable at the time but it was 7 or 8 years ago now and it was for my old pug 505 diesel.
  19. I broke my passenger mirror so I got a whole drivers side unit from the US Ebay for about £45. You should get some joy for your mk2 over there. The glass is awful and doesn't line up to see anything useful behind me, but my original glass was Ok. I just haven't got round to swapping it over yet. Don't think a stick on mirror would heat up, it may move but it depends on if the mechanism inside has been damaged.
  20. One day I'll notice one of you. I drive into Maidstone every working day and if heathfield road is particularly busy I occasionally drive past Penenden Heath on my way into town.
  21. mmm Fresh Venison!! Call me a sicko if you like, but if you had the room in the boot and a bag to put Bambi in, perhaps you could've got enough back from a butchers to contribute to the damage. Ignoring any local bye-laws of course
  22. Silver IS I think, can't remember what was in front, but (one of) the cars behind was blue! :duh: Thankfully I got past before the road got really clogged up
  23. What sort of system is it - Single point or multi-point? I'm looking for an excuse to upgrade to a Celsior so need to make it as cost neutral as possible :winky: Speaking of spare tyres, My old P6 had a boot mounted spare - I think this would look rather cool on the back of my GS! Does anyone know if this is feasible?
  24. There is another fusebox under the bonnet just behind the battery. I'm afraid the manual doesn't list what fuses are what, it just states that there should be a sticker on the inside of the lid.
