  1. Oh yes. Bushes are available for the Mk 4. Worth checking US suppliers and no need to fear importing if you factor taxes and shipping. Always check Lexus Birmingham and ask for a discount. A garage fitting needs a friendly garage as plenty will only do their parts...
  2. Hi Do you mean the lower bars with the camber settings bolt? If so...I bought the Lexus OE bushes with a discount for about £95 and got a garage to fit. I do a lot of work on my car but preferred to pay for the job. I recall it cost £230 labour plus vat but included fitting x2 lower ball joints, x1 tie rod end labour charge. Those parts were not expensive.
  3. Oh it’s just a bit out so that’s fine. Castor angle is adjusting the lower control arm adjustment? If so that’s the ****** that burns up the inside tyre tread...I have no idea why that garage couldn’t do that. It may be time for new control arm bushes... and a new garage.
  4. My local Lexus dealer uses Shell Helix fully synthetic...got that info in a friendly conversation when picking up parts...so that’s what I use, 5/30, on a 90k mile engine. Puff of smoke is a bit of wear and unlikely to be cured by oil type. Is the engine using oil?
  5. Hello Malc my friend - nice to hear from you. Yes I can't and won't get rid of the LS400...probs you won't remember...one of my first posts was a comment of mine saying I'd use the 400 until I bought something more flash having just dusted off and sold my useless 2003 Jag XKR...now look...my LS400 my pride and joy 🤣 A lot of Bentleys are 5 owner cars...does that mean a lot of dreamers? 5 crops up a lot...enough to be a pattern. They certainly have gremlins although the drive train and more are fab. I was only dreaming...other half is expecting a kitchen to the same value. Guess who will win... If I did get another carriage - Lexus...has to be. But the 400 stays.
  6. Hi Seems an age since I last posted...eventful pre and summer with me having to scrap my wife’s 4ltr S Type at only 70 odd k miles due to head gasket failure...my 1995 Alfa 155 Sport passed all but emissions in its Spanish Test and as I thought needed some exhaust work and a new LAMDA which has not done that much mileage. So that now means my dearest is now using the LS400 😱. “It’s good...” is all the meaningful comment I can get from my wife...she likes the sports mode...😳 can’t think what that means. I have to check the tyres regularly as they loose pressure evenly. I don’t know if a much needed refurb will fix that? Last work I did was for the MOT where the emissions failed on tick over so a new air filter, cat clean and thrash did the trick. I’ve peeling bumper paint and some previous owner dents plus wheels to sort. when the rear brake pads go i’ll do the complete rears. Few more miles left though. I’m at 92,000 miles now. Been drooling over a Bentley GT...then compared against a 460 or 500 which I know are kind of different experiences. Running a Bentley wouldn’t be so bad for me as I do a lot on my motors...whatever happens the 400 is not going.🤗
  7. I’d stay with standard and put the money into keeping the car right up to top condition with OE parts.
  8. I like good information and honest detail. But one can tell over verbose, enthused, hyperbole. Least said the better with a line of honesty. Made my point?
  9. Yep evidence is king...copy receipts, packaging it’s important history. I know Alfas and Renault belts snap...more likely a waterpump would go. I’ve got a Gates unit on mine.
  10. Oh bless...no way... It’s as hidden as a...buried body... No yellow stickers recording the change...no change.
  11. Deferring to my experienced colleagues...try what they suggest. Might be a motion sensor moment and plugging in to get a fault code might be a start. I’ve had that light on when I’ve jacked up the car and have been meddling all over the place. Also had the light on at random but on restarting it has gone out...haven’t had this now ever since...but it was a recurring event for a few times. It just stopped... Worth covering a few basics: brakes are clean and have meat, fluids are ok...if you can check break pad sensors...I know a different light should show... Annoying but nothing to worry about. But need to resolve...for peace of mind and safe motoring.
  12. If I see another car ad for a Lexus that says...or another seller that tells me: ’oh yes the belt has been done...I don’t have the receipt but I’m sure the garage will verify it...’ walk away moment... 🙄
  13. I read that corrosion of cap and valve can cause problems. A lot of folk fit plastic caps to avoid the issue...I don’t know if this requires disconnecting the sensor system.
  14. I’d go for the reds right now. How handy are you with a spanner? You can do the battery? If you have a good/friendly local mechanic or garage then source the parts from US and get them fitted...I do this if I’m not fixing the car myself...you can get a good price quality balance. Garages want revenue so they’ll generally do this. Always try Lexus Birmingham first and ask for a discount...🧐 I prefer genuine parts but don’t get hung up if your budget is tight. As mentioned by Texas it’s all come at once. Think of it this way...it’s worth doing. Unlike my wife’s S type Jag...(same age as my LS400) year 2000, under 73000miles...scrapped the other day. Head gasket...air con hasn’t worked for 5 years...other niggles...pile of rubbish and horrid to work on. My Lexus would be fixed if it had the same issues... 🙂
  15. You need to get this checked and a good garage will cope at not too many £’s. Gearbox oil has to be red. Engine oil clear light see through light tan. If new almost too clear to see. Rough changes from time to time are normal when you catch the system at the wrong speed/time particularly on deceleration. It’s called catching the gearbox out. But again, gearbox oil should be red and not smell bad even if it’s old.
  16. If you don’t have an owners manual...do get one as it’ll be useful. Depends upon speed and load but you won’t go too far wrong around 30 but please check exactly as it makes for safe, efficient driving.
  17. Yep I get Blueprint blue washers...identical and a quid or so...depends on whose offering what at the time. I get a Lexus oil filter but from any reasonable source...they’re made in a few countries but seem ok. I too got plugs from Opie...very good value. Air filter changed (now) every year as I failed emissions in latest MOT but non OE but not too cheap...changed filter, added cat clean and thrashed around for a few miles...results were perfect-very good indeed.
  18. I agree and doubt there will be any appreciable wear...in fact there won’t be. Needs a thorough service and some mileage...it’ll be good as new. Given that it’s a straight car...
  19. Me neither Lee...I’d ask for the real reg number and validate the mileage. Looks trade or is this a library pic and is not the car itself? Looks a cracker...
  20. I didn’t get as far as driving it...didn’t feel the urge. If it gets off the line my wife will be happy and with a roof down...delighted...I’ll get to drive more of a match to what I’m after...
  21. Good afternoon I've just stepped in to this room as I'm to be found in the LS400 lounge...🙂 My wife's Jag S Type 4ltr has crossed the line and after 10 years of ownership and too many new parts...looks like a head gasket failure. Reading through the manual...I'm not going to fix this and I'm certainly not going to pay for it. I've had my eye on an SC for a while now...floated back and forwards and I'm in no doubt whilst not perfect...(what is?) the SC is a very good prospect. Today I visited one for private sale in Reading. Asking price was £4,500 for a 87k 02 plate. Summary MOT due 4th June - previous advisory was exhaust leak Lowered suspension Non standard exhausts - sounded well throaty on idle but when wellied actually went quiet...what was the point of that...? Ground clearance very compromised. Non standard wheels - tyres were good Oil was old (very smelly) and halfway between min & max Coolant looked clean and didn't smell but needed a slight top-up No cam belt service sticker and owner stated this had been done approx 6 years ago Break discs looked very clean (brake fluid looked fresh) Everything worked that I tested - there was damage in stitching to rear seat swab, headlight lenses were not clear My conclusion was this was at the high price range for a non-standard car, particularly with an imminent MOT. I noted that the car had been warmed up prior to my arranged visit, there was a lack of receipts and no evidence of cam belt change. I didn't make an offer on this basis. Hunt goes on. 😊
  22. 😀 Ok so a quiet day at the office... Picked up a new air filter and a bottle of Wynn’s lower emission additive. Rang ATS and booked a retest so after fitting the filter and chucking in the fluid to my just over 1/4 full tank I had just under 1.5hours to Italian tune. Damn...M4 has roadworks for miles at the junction nearest the centre. There are some good straights in the business parks and they were deserted so I thrashed about trying to burn as much fuel as possible. Drove in 2nd for a spell, hard accelerating and braking. Do I put some good fuel in now or let the additive work with what’s in the tank...keep as is. Clock ticking and I pull up for the test and let the car idle for 5 minutes and Rev it a bit before switching off. The test started a few minutes after I’d arrived. Result: Pass Take a look at the results (attached) 👍🙂 Now what sort of dumb idea is it to just thrash the car, burn fuel expelling all the rubbish to the atmosphere then run a system that will clog again in traffic? Air filter though will be an annual event from now on. I will use this additive again, I do use Redex once a year...will use premium fuel more often if not all of the time.
