  1. Our IS300 has always taken a few turns of the engine to start from cold in the mornings. Always seems fine after that, so can't say if there's the same problem. Recently had it serviced but didn't make any difference - something I don't have an issue with though as it behaves faultlessly the rest of the time.
  2. There will always be exceptions to the rules - I'm glad you are happy with their service, long may it last. I wasn't really indicating that the provided service was crap, just that they are awful companies to deal with in my experience. Business ADSL is usually 20:1 contention
  3. Folks In my opinion you should steer clear of Ntl: or Telewest. They are both complete nightmare companies to do business with. Demon still seem ok as do Zen. Worth checking them out
  4. Sorry Risky - are you saying that Lexus don't make an IS300 for the UK market? If that's the case then what the hell have I paid out nearly £30k for
  5. Ahhh....... the joys of being a GS owner :D :D :D :D
  6. Technical Design Authority for an IT outsourcing company They pay me for 40 hours so that's what they get !!! I'm kind enough to travel for a minimum of 20 hours a week to work for them :P
  7. Having driven the 200 we waited for the 300 to come out. Drove it and bought it, (from Lexus Hadleigh as it happens) It's always going to be thirstier than the 200 but not excessively so. The chassis is more than capable of coping with the power, the traction control can be a bit intrusive and you need to get used to the e-shift gearbox (if you don't leave it in auto all the time). Overall I cannot fault the car and have never regretted going for the 300 over the 200 (even though the 200 is an extremely good car) Go on - you know you wanna B)
  8. Why would you want to hang up the line with ADSL when the whole idea is that it is always on ! If you are worried about the PC being vulnerable while you are not there then either configure the built in firewall on the Draytek or switch off your PC. There is however a way of doing what you require on the Draytek:- 1) Login to the Router's Web Configurator 2) On the router's main menu select Internet Access setup 3) Select your internet access mode - PPoE/PPPoA 4) The ISP access setup screen has an idle timeout box - set this to 300 seconds (5 mins) All this info is on pages 14,15,16 of the user guide - so to prevent Rodders getting unhappy it might be worth having a good read before posting these questions to this forum again :) :)
  9. Sounds good to me mate - while you are up in your planes I'll use the runways for blasting about in my exotica without worrying about the police B) Just let me know when you are going to land !!!!
  10. Flipping heck - I can't believe they actually got out of it alive !!!
  11. Hey Vince You'd need more space then me :P Possibly a couple of runways would be nice I think you might have to work a lot harder than me if you want to play with planes !!
  12. Matt Is it not the case that 98 uses winipcfg instead of ipconfig ? Or am I thinking of 95 ? If you are going to do an ipconfig/renew (or renew from winipcfg) from the 98 machine that does rely on his XP machine running DHCP services and having a scope set up, (I think actually that XP handles the DHCP side of things through the internet sharing service.) His XP machine will get a public IP address from the ISP but to get a private 192.168.x.x address for the 98 machine there will have to be a DHCP service of some sort running on the local LAN. As far as routers for ADSL go check out the Draytek Vigor at www.seg.co.uk. Used a few of these devices at work at they are great. They have in built firewall capabilities for proper protection form the Internet. PI100 - if you get any error messages relating to things you've tried so far then post them and it will help in identifying the problem Cheers
  13. Chris Top choice of fords - I'm with you all the way on those. Don't care about the Capri image, they were great fun to drive. Had a 2.8i special years ago and regretted selling it for a long time after - even though I sold it to a page three girl's brother and she came with him to view the car :P My choices would be :- Aston V8 Vantage Aston Vanquish Aston DB7 Volante Aston DB4 Ferrari 550 Maranello Ferrari 355 GTB Lamborghini Countach 5000QV Lamborghini Muira SV Jaguar XJR (for going shopping) Pagani Zonda C12S Ford GT40 (original) Nissan Skyline R33 GTR V-Spec If only those six little numbers would come up................
  14. I thought that the servicing was supposed to be fixed price. Obviously only fixed per dealer as opposed to corporately. I have to admit that I think that sucks. I guess most of us only have one dealer close enough to use conveniently so why can't everybody be treated the same regardless of their location ?
  15. Looks like we've succeeded - for heavens sake get rid of the thing. Why bother telling people in the gold forums to "Go Gold" - we already have !!
  16. Thanks folks, I know how much blood, sweat & tears goes into doing these sorts of upgrades - A good job jobbed B)
  17. My Mk1 Sport has got 245/40 ZR18 on the 8.5" rims at the front. The 10" rims at the back have 275/35 ZR18. I'm sure that they are the correct sizes. For what it's worth I wouldn't recommend the Conti Sport Contacts that are on their at the moment - awesome in the dry but poo in the wet !!!:(
  18. Just to add my two-penneth worth.... The road system wouldn't face gridlock so quickly if people didn't insist on sitting in the middle or outside lane, therefore making a dual carriageway a single carriageway and making a motorway a dual carriageway. Indicators seem to have been offered as an optional extra by most manufacturers for some years now- shame so many people didn't opt to have have them. Those who have got them seem to think that using them allows them to make their move regardless of what's around them. Haven't these numbskulls ever heard of mirror, signal, manoeuvre. Why do so many people think that roundabouts are a series of apexes that need to be driven in as straight a line as possible. For heavens sake they are round and involve driving around them not taking a line that squeezes the person alongside you onto the roundabout. It all boils down to education and until we have regular re-certification of drivers then we will all have to suffer the appauling driving and insurance premiums that exist today. Phew...time to chill methinks;)
  19. Me neither. Are they just different abbreviations for types of variable timing ? I still can't find anywhere that says the Mk1 uses any sort of variable timing
  20. Hi All Can anyone tell me where the best place is to get a replacement surround for the GS300 Mk1 gear selector ? It's the bit with all the gear positions marked on it (P,R,N,D etc) The previous owner must have used something to clean it which has wrecked the surface - I thought it would clean up when I got it home but the surface has gone dull & flat. I don't even know if I can get this as a part from the dealers (lazy - haven't asked) - it's probably the only place but I thought I'd ask here anyway Any advice/pointers welcomed Cheers
  21. Got the same problem on our IS300 - how did you get on at the dealers ? I can't imagine that this is covered by any sort of warranty, not even the excellent Lexus ones ! Surely we have to put this down to "wear and tear" - If not then happy days :bounce: Cheers Dobbin
  22. My other half has an IS300 which does exactly the same thing. In auto mode and very slow pull away it hesitates and then lurches into gear. The car's only done 6000 miles. She spoke to the dealer who suggested it was the way she was driving it !!! Especially strange as I took the engineer out in it so he could experience the problem too They also said that their technical support department didn't know of this problem - which was strange seeing as though we had just reported it !!!!!! So, we've had no response on a resolution either:?: But you are not alone................
  23. Hi All Can anyone explain why I seem to get average acceleration up to about 3500rpm and then it seems to give an extra surge up to the red line ? It's very similar to what you'd get with a variable timed engine, but I thought the GS300 Mk1 didn't have variable valve timing.:?: Just for the record I love this car - I've only had it for just over a month and it's a real pleasure to drive (apart from the steering vibration that others have experienced as well and the drivers door seems to vibrate a bit a high speed - all minor niggles though). Thanks in advance
