  1. My door mirrors were slow thismorning to go out. Same when I put it in reverse, they didn't like going down either. Try putting your rear window heater on for a minute or two before selecting reverse as it warms them up a bit and then it seems to work fine. Try cleaning behind your door handles as this will make the smart keys work a bit better. It might be an accumulation of road salt and other nasties that makes it harder for the door handle to detect that your hand is there.
  2. In my experience with Dunlop's on my LS430, they were complete pants. I think they have a very hard compound because they lasted ages but I had to get rid of them due to the noise. I can recomend either Michelin Pilot Sports or Bridgestone Turanza. I have Michelin's on the front and Bridgestone on the back. The Michelin's are very expensive though and hardly anyone had them in stock.
  3. I asked one of the organisers on the way in and they didn't know where the stand was. I drove past the Aristo club and saw nothing of the Lexus owners club. Absolutly nothing. Just one big empty space. I hope I didn't upset anyone. Oh well, I had a cracking day anyway. Be good, Jim.
  4. Hi all. I had a cracking day today at JAE. I met some cracking people and saw some awsome cars but just wonderd where everyone was as the stand was non existant? Jim.
  5. Afternoon all. Just wonderd if anyone was going to JAE with an LS or is it just me again this year? Be good, Jim.
  6. Hi all. Those who don't know I work as a driving instructor. Every four years I have a check test where a driving examiner plays the role of a learner and I need to teach them somthing. Anyway, I had my check test today and I came away with a grade 6 which is the highest you can get. I'm well chuffed as not many instructors are a grade 6. Sorry for tooting my own horn but I'm well chuffed with this. See you all at JAE. Jim.
  7. If you really want to learn about rear wheel drive, have a go on a skid pan. That way, when you do explore that very fine line between almost having the back end let go and ending up in someones living room, you won't hurt yourself, anyone else and your lovely IS200 will remain in the same condition as it left Japan. TRC OFF is somthing you really don't want to explore too much in an LS430. It may weigh the best part of two tonnes, but it can leave a fat number 11 going up the road with the best of them. Although, I did once do a doughnut on a very wet and grassey field with the TRC off. That was fun if you don't mind cleaning off cow pooh for days after.
  8. Very nice example. Same colour as mine and probably just as impossible to keep it looking black too. My interior is grey though. Jim.
  9. I have only ever used Castrol Edge as apposed to Magnetec. Edge is fully synthetic and I did have a slight increase in MPG as well. I change mine every six months or 5,000 miles. Probably overkill but it's worth it. The oil that comes out doesn't seem that dirty so either the inside of my engine is really clean, or it's not going round it. The engine does feel slightly looser which should give me a couple more bhp but I'd never feel that.
  10. When you buy a Skoda, you don't expect much from the brand in terms of quality of the product or after sales service. When the product turns out to be better than expected and the dealer service also turned out better to be expected then it's brilliant. Hence a high score in the survey. When you buy a Lexus, you expect everything, and I mean everything to be perfect. From the product to the after sales. When you expect it to be perfect and it is, then you get top marks in the JD power survey. I'm not too botherd that they were knocked off by Skoda. I know that the Lexus dealer I use would wipe the floor with any Skoda dealer or product out there. Besides, what would you like to have on your driveway, the new Skoda Superb, or a nice Lexus IS250SEL? I know which one I would rather have.
  11. Hi Prople. Was at Lexus Woodford having my MOT done and it passed. Thought the back tyres might let it down as they are down to 2mm but Tony at WIM is getting me a price. Thanks again to Kathryn in Service. Your a credit to Lexus Woodford, Jim.
  12. Perhaps Lexus is having it's Mercedes Benz moment. I sure hope it's not though.
  13. Hello all. It's not often we all get some good news but I thought I would share it. I just got back from my ROSPA driving test and came back with !!!A GOLD PASS!!! :D Compleatly shatterd now so going to have a lie down. Have a good week. Jim.
  14. Why is it, when I have a flat tyre, that only the bottom bit look flat, but the rest of it still look round? Also, when does the flux capacitor need servicing?
  15. There are a couple of vids on Youtube showing an LS400 at a 40mph (approx) offset frontal impact.
  16. I've never had a problem with my one but I do have projector lights which have a perfectly flat cut off point.
  17. Hi there. I'm glad your considering the LS430. It's an awsome car and one that I still enjoy driving jsut as much now as the day I got it. I'm sure they all had the Mark Levinson stereo weather it had the premium pack or not but as far as I'm aware, they nearly all had the premium pack and it is worth having over the few cars that don't. Parking can be quite tight in most parking bays but I've never had a problem using the Lion Yard multi story car park in Cambridge so don't worry too much about that. Fuel economy and a 4.3 litre v8 don't really go hand in hand I'm afraid. Expect an average of 20-22mpg if driven like a district nurse. I have got mine down to 4mpg whilst doing demonstration drives for an advanced driving organisation. In terms of what to look out for, a full service history is a !!!MUST!!! but the same could be said for any car. Make sure everything works so push every button etc. Alloy wheels seem to be a bit of a problem in terms of corrosion but appart from that, mine hasn't so much as burped since I've had it. Serviceing, I have only ever used Lexus Woodford (who do a superb job and I can highly recomend them) but talking to the garage up the road from me, they can be serviced by most garages. You will save on labour rates too. Insurance isn't a problem for me as I'm a driving instructor and ROSPA qualified so mine is preety low, can't remember off the top of my head though. This is one of few cars that you can actually buy with your heart as well as your head. Just don't get a black one as they are a nightmare to keep clean and everyone thinks your a gangster. Jim.
  18. My car went in for a service at Lexus Woodford on Thursday gone. No probs, just needed new pads and two tyres (which I'll sort out myself) and an air con regas. All done professionally as usuall and can't recomend them enough. One thing though, if the person who is reading this had the IS courtasy car before me, !!!!!!!!!!GIVE UP SMOKING YOU FILTHY NIT!!!!!!!!!! Many thanks to Kathrine in the service department, professional as always. Jim.
  19. I would have thought (and I'm certainly no mechanic) that there wouldn't be much if anything at all in the filter. It's not like a manuall gearbox where you can ocassionally grind a gear and end up with small tips of gear teeth floating around in the oil. Yesterday I also asked a Lexus dealer at what intervall the automatic gearbox fluid needed changing as was told that it didn't. I'll be the judge of that though.
  20. That does sound like you have a headlight bulb on the way out. The HID bulbs do tend to last substantially longer than regular fillament bulbs but they do tend to cost alot more. It is worth replacing them in pairs as sometimes there will be too much of a variation in colour between old bulbs and new ones. I have seen this quite alot on old Merc S class cars. You wouldn't get a warning either as the system can't check HID bulbs like fillament bulbs as it can't pass a very small current through it to see if it makes a circuit. There is just a small ball of gas which does not conduct small amounts of electricity.
  21. I think anything to do with the front lights is always a dealer thing. It probably stops people blowing them selves up by fiddling with the ballasts.
  22. Just wondering is there going to be anyone bringing along another LS please? I was the only one last year
  23. Glad you got what you wanted in the end and looking forward to seeing the pics. I had similar problems looking for an LS430 at main dealers. You wouldn't believe what some people are capable of doing to the inside of a £60,000 luxury car. I had to go to the ends of the earth to find one where the previous owner didn't have a 60 a day habbit.
  24. Well, mine is spoilt rotten as I only ever run it on 97RON BP Ultimate and very ocassionally on Shell V Power. There is a video on Youtube about V Power which looked good. I tend to believe a guy with a German accent when he talks about the cleaning properties of petrol. Mixing the two RON's doesn't make a difference though.
