  1. Our useless garage door does have a manuall override on it. Disconnect the power and put the extension handle in the hole and turn for all your life is worth. The problem that we had was the clips that attatch the top of the garage door to the lifting mechanism had all detatched themselves (and there are 10 of them) so it was stuck down. As it is a roller door we couldn't even lift it manually. It has now been repaired and had all 10 clipd reattached so fingers crossed, next Thursday, I can get the car done.
  2. Evening all. I'd love to tell you how my service went today as it was booked in at Lexus Woodford for a major service but I had a slight problem. THE B****Y STUPID S****Y C****Y USELESS ELECTRONIC GARAGE DOOR FAILED TO OPERATE WITHIN THE MANUFACTURER'S PARAMETRES (IT'S B*****D). Mended now though by a nice man in a van. I must say though that they were very understanding at Woodford about me not being able to get the car out the garage, but all is not lost, we're having another go next Thursday so fingers crossed I actually make it this time. Jim.
  3. I too can recomend Lexus Woodford. I have an appointment there on Tuesday for a major service on the LS. Been quoted £460 which I didn't think was too bad every other year. They have always been good and have never had a problem at all with them.
  4. What will you have for pudding? You can eat my LS for pudding if you want? In all seriousness though, there are so many other variables that need to be considerd before you can say the fuel saver actually works. 10 to 20 miles extra might have somthing to do with a lighter foot, outside temperatre, tyre inflations, belief that the fuel saver works etc. Not convinved at all in my opinion but pleased you think it has worked for you. Jim. I drive the same way everywhere very high speed motorway and flat out on the corners. This LS does drift. There are extras to consider but I done this test over a few months not a few weeks when traveilling to work on the same pattern and times. It was the nearest I could get to do the same trip. As for 10 miles not to write home about I state this. 10 miles costs you x amount. How many full tanks of fuel will it take to get the x amount back and the item pays for itself as the item is only around £5. Not many miles in the LS for £5 these days. What I was suprised at is that the high octane fuel made fuel consumption worse. This test was done for the benefit of fellow owners to make their own mind up. I understand what you say, but for the small amount you have saved, it's not really scientific. If it were to be an extra 30 to 40 miles, then I would have found it more believeable. No one is going to be able to drive their car exactly the same way every single time. You will have to wait at traffic lights longer on some days than others, you might have to queue at a junction for longer on some days. To really find out if it has made a difference, I would imagine you would have to have your vehicle set up in a lab, being controlled by computer, replicating a driving style exactly using a fuel saver, then then without. At least then you can controll all the variables. I would be more inclined to believe those figures more, but I would also like to state that I am not saying your figures are wrong either as you probably have been able to replicate your driving style exactly between using the fuel saver and not using it. I personally would believe it alot more if it was scientific. Thats all. Have a good weekend. Jim.

  6. I've had a couple of RX400h's and one RX350 and I must say they really arn't my cup of tea. Once you've had a V8 though, nothing else will do though. It is so nice to get back in my LS after a courtesy car though. The times I have had the IS220d and the IS250, I have been really impressed with those though. I would quite like an IS220d as a second car. Doesn't it say somewhere in the owners manuall that the RX350 and RX400h are not intended for off-road use?
  7. Hi there. The front seats don't massage but they cool and heat. It should also have bluetooth as well built in. I can't help you with the reversing camera as mine has always worked. It will have electric rear seats, rear aircon and fridge located behind the rear arm rest. Alloy wheels have always been a problem. One of mine is just starting to bubble so will be getting this replaced under warrenty. So long as the service history is there I wouldn't worry about the mileage. Just remember though, you might be buying a bargain, but these LS's are not a bargain to run. It will need a service every 12 months or 10,000 miles, tyres arn't what I would call cheap and I'm averaging 22 mpg and that is driving it like a district nurse. As near as damn it £80 to fill up from empty. But, I love mine to bits and wouldn't change it for anything. Well, I say anything, perhaps a Mercedes S65AMG. PM me if you want to know anything else. Jim.
  8. I have been playing his music all evening now. You tend to foget how good somthing is till it's gone. R.I.P. Michael. You will be sorely missed.
  9. I can understand the argument of having the same overtaking laws as in the US but the problem you would have is that the majority of drivers in the UK are only used to having people pass them on their right hand side. A majority of people find it "difficult" enough to check their right mirror before moving out, let alone having to check a left one for sombody overtaking on their left. The other problem we have is that there are millions of motorists in the UK and a vast majority of them think they are experts in the field of driving and so are unwilling to learn or to improve their driving skills. It's every man for themselves out there sometimes and it needn't be like that. Simple ruels, lane one is your driving lane and lane's two and three are overtaking lanes. Even at 70mph people would still be passing each other because you don't need a calibrated speedomotre in the UK so people with new tyres will be going slightly faster than those with worn tyres.
  10. Knock me down with a feather - only a brand new ML320 Special Edition turned up!!! Very nice car indeed......... Well, knock me down with a feather too. An ML320!!!!. Lots of off roading potential there.
  11. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's an SLR or an S65AMG. In the real world, probably a C180 Poverty Class.
  12. Added to the list Jim :D Thanks very much.
  13. Hi All. Can someone put me down for Saturday (1 day) and I'll bring the LS430. Also, SOMEONE ELSE BRING AN LS PLEASE!!!!!!!! Many thanks. Jim.
  14. It would be interesting to see where all the BP ultimate comes from and all the Shell V Power comes from as well. I run my LS on BP Ultimate only because it seems that the bigger the engine, the more of a benefit you get in terms of horsepower and smoothness. My Nissan Micra I have always ran on Sainsbury's and had no trouble. I did run my previous Micra for a year on BP Ultimate and when Nissan changed the spark plugs on a service, they said that there was no difference in the colour of the spark plugs compared to when I ran it on standard unleaded. Personally, I wouoldn't bother with any petrol treatment unless you have a problem with rough running. In the USA they use somthing called Seafoam. Youtube it if you like smoke screens. Apparently this is good at cleaning our "carbon build-up" but I'm not too sure.
  15. Well, now you all know what I do when I'm not being a driving instructor.
  16. Congratulations on your new car. Let's see a couple of piccies. I have drives quite a few of the new GS's and I really do like them, especially the hybrid but I think the GS300 is the best all-rounder
  17. They come out to driving lessons wearing all sorts of exciting footwear. I even had one girl who wore a pair of high heels nip into a shoe shop quickly and came out with a pair of cheap trainers to still have her lesson. Everyone so far has understood and the ones who can't change their footwear have payed me for the lesson and promised to wear somthing more sensable for their next lesson. It's the attitude of this woman I can't get my head round. I'm not worried about loosing her as a pupil at all. It is this attitude that is costing lives out there. I'm moaning on again about this, really sorry.
  18. I just thought I would share with you the day I have had today. I picked up a pupil for a driving lesson. I notice she is walkig to the car wearing a pair of sandles which she is clearly having trouble keeping on her feet. I greet her in the usuall way, asking her how her week was etc. I then proceed to tell her that her footwear is unsuitable and unsafe to drive a car in. I explained that there is a chance of her sandle coming off and getting trapped between the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal or a pedal getting trapped between her sandle and her foot. I even explained that if her sandle was to come off and get stuck under the brake pedal that there would be nothing I could do to stop the car as my dual brake pedal is connected to her brake pedal so if one stops working, we have no brakes. I said could she just pop back home (all of 30 metres away from where I picked her up) and change her shoes for somthing more suitable and safer for driving. She says to me that if she has to change her shoes she is getting out and going somewhere else. I asked if she understood compleatly why I wasn't going to let her drive the car with unsafe footware and she shrugged her shoulders. I told her that her attitide stinks and that she needs to go and find another instructor who doesn't care about her or anyone elses safety. I explain this to anyone who wears inappropriate footware for a driving lesson and so far everyone has understood compleatly and have been more than happy to change their shoes, but there is always one who thinks they know better. Sorry for the rant but this lady really got up my nose. Jim.
  19. I have alot of my pupils asking me about companies like car Car Craft and other such supermarkets with their £20 per week finance deals. I stopped one girl from paying over £12,000 over six years for a base spec Peugeot 206. They need to teach people about this kind of thing at school. It makes me absolutly sick.
  20. The first series LS430 has a five speed auto and the second series has a six speed. I think it has alot to do with all this auto adaptive rubbish where it thinks it knows better than you do. If I'm pottering round I will leave it to it's own devices as my engine rarely goes above 2,000 rpm but if you really want to get a move on, forget sports, just plonk it in manuall mode and give it the berries in second right to the red line. Ruins your fuel econemy and keeps Tony at WIM in business as the rear Michelin's take a pasting but that big old tank can shift it with the best of them.
  21. My LS430 has a 6 speed gearbox and I sometimes think that it has too many to know what to do with. I have driven a couple of LS460's and must admit that the gearbox in my opinion is the weakest bit. I found that using the manuall function was a bit daft trying to pull the leaver back three or four times to get the right gear. Putting it in sports and using the kickdown left a long delay before it surged forward. I think it would do better to have new software but the problems you are reporting are the same as I have felt in the one's I have driven.
  22. You have to admit that this is quite poor. Even I could do somthing better than this. I don't have a problem with my computer as such, but do you think you could speed up my toaster? Sorry for the sarcasm.
  23. I would rather stir-fry my eye balls in the hottest chilli sauce in the world than look at that complete waste of electricity that they call "Big Brother". Can't you tell I don't like it?
  24. It's ME!!!!!! Just wonderd if anyone has seen me? Jim.
