  1. This could be one of the reasons why these engine's seem to go on for ever. They are so under stressed it's stupid. I'd love to have mine chipped but I think the money you have to pay for the performance benefits don't seem worth it.
  2. I think the only problem with the LS460 is I don't have one . I have driven a couple of LS460's now and they are awsome. I can't see that they are much better at all from the LS430 but they are very different. The only gripe I found really was with the 8 speed gearbox. There are too many ratio's than it really knows what to do with which is somthing I find with the six speed box in my LS430 but appart from that, it is an awsome bit of kit. Jim.
  3. I think Magnatec is semi-synthetic but still a good oil and much cheaper than Castrol Edge which is about £40 for four litres.
  4. I remember reading somewhere that the LS430 with the 6 speed box does the 0-60 dash in 6.1 seconds and is limited to 155mph. In terms of refienment, you just can't hear it. I have driven it yesterday and today, at normal everyday driving speeds and it hasn't once gone over 2,000 rpm. In terms of refienment they have got it sorted. It is also doing at the moment 20.1mpg which isn't bad, especially as the front and rear ac is on and the fridge is chilling a couple of bottles of water. I'd love to have a drive in an LS400 to compare the two in terms of power and ride.
  5. That looks very clean. You must be proud of it. It makes me want to go and do mine but it might not be a good idea after half a bottle of wine. It is in amazing "nick" Jim.
  6. Just a guess, but it might be somthing to do with the speed sensor or what ever it is called. When the car goes over 5mph, my LS switches alot of things off like the phone and nav. Sorry I can't be of more help. Jim.
  7. Role - Self employed driving instructor (grade 5) What I do - I give automatic driving lessons to people who struggle with learning in a manuall. I am qualified to teach both manuall and automatic. Location - I am based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. I teach mostly around Harlow, Bishops Stortford area. Help to members - If anyone wants to improve their driving then give me a shout. I only charge if you need advanced lessons for commercial use. Almost forgot, my name is Jim but will also respond to OY, AY YOU, etc.
  8. In my opinion, when it comes to engines, size is everything. You can have as much power as you want to but just remember, it will only go as fast depending on how far you push that pedal down. I do exactly the same speeds in my LS430 that I do in my automatic 1.2 litre Nissan Micra driving school car. I just don't push my foot down any where near as much in the LS. There is somthing I really like about doing 70mph and seeing the rev counter showing 1,700 rpm. It is just so lazy compared to the Micra doing the best part of 3,000 rpm at 70 mph. If I could afford it I would have a Mercedes S65 AMG on the drive. Now that has some serious grunt.
  9. All I did yesterday was have a nice drive from Hoddesdon to Welwyn only to find out I had to double back on myself as they have closed half of the roads off which ment more time driving the LS. Got a new mobile and will now spend the rest of eternaty figuring out how it works any by the time I manage to get it pared to the LS's bluetooth, the LS will be car tax exempt. The sun was nice though.
  10. It's worse than that, it's an automatic Nissan Micra. I could have a go at boiling the fluid in the torque converter instead. It's such a beast, downhill, with the air con off, with the wind behind it etc.
  11. £23.62? Would it fit on a Nissan Micra as I need to go to Ikea on Monday.
  12. I've just bought one today too. It matches the colour of my car.
  13. Evening all. The Micra (driving school car) goes in for a service at Nissan tomorrow morning. It is the big service called the M3 which is about £320. It also needs an aircon service as well. I asked what this entailed and was told the system will be drained, vacumed, re-gassed and oil, and a sanitiser for £50. I thought this was quite good, especially from a main dealer. Have a good weekend and don't forget, WE GOT MONDAY OFF YAY!!!!! Jim.
  14. I have four Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on mine. It's probably a bit much as they are quite expensive but for grip/noise/comfort, I don't think you can beat them. Also, I have seen them on a Merc S65 AMG so if it's good enough for that monster, it's good enough for me.
  15. Evening everyone. Hope you have all had a good weekend. I have been running this one up the flag pole for a few weeks now as I'm thinking of a career change. Currently I am a driving instructor and have been for over five years. As with every industry it has it's up's and it's down's but now is the time I feel like a change. I was thinking of becoming a chauffeur. I've had a read on the internet and it seems like the type of job I would love to do. I am ROSPA qualified, CRB checked, work very well under stressfull situations, and enjoy meeting and helping people from all walks of life. Are there any chauffeurs on this forum who could give me an idea on how to get started and what the average day is like. Many thanks in advance, Jim.
  16. I never go to the gym as I hate it when people point and laugh at my moobs. But, I do have a cross trainer in my bedroom which I use for half an hour a day and then I do 100 sit ups. If I could afford it I would go to Beverly Hills and find the finest plastic surgeon and hand him a picture of Brad Pit or Travis Van Winkle and say when I wake up, I want to look better than them.
  17. There might be a couple of reasons why the BMW marque seems to be perceived as badly driven. One reason I think is for it's popularity. Correct me if I'm wrong but the three series BMW outsold the Ford Mondeo so there are more of them out on the roads than ever before. This would increase the chances of these people being spotted driving them badly. The other reason, and this kind of ties in with popularity of the first reason, we tend to be on the look out for bad drivers when we ourselves are driving. Our natural hazard perception means we are constantly on the lookout for cars being driven "badly". As the BMW three series is a far more popular choice, you will, more often than not, see a BMW being driven badly. You might just find though, that there are alot of BMW's out there being driven rather well, but it is human nature not to spot this. As a driving instructor, it seems, more often than not, that women tend to drive right up the rear of my driving school car than men. This is due more with spatial awareness than anything else, but men tend to be far more agressive when it comes to overtaking and cutting in than women. It doesn't matter what marque of car that is doing this, as it seems to be all of them. In my opinion, and laws of averages, it doesn't matter what it is, it's going to be driven badly by these people. Jim.
  18. Afixing a straw to your intake and blowing would probably have more of an effect than this thing.
  19. Looking forward to this one. As I put in an appearence at the last one, I feel I should go to this one too. I'd love to have a go at the carting, so long as I can use the LS.
  20. lol me too, what made you come over soo many thousands of miles to the UK, if you dont mind me asking Mum hated spiders lol. All my Dad's family are out there and all my Mum's family are in the UK. Not everyone got along so they decided to come back. I was 13 at the time so didn't have any say in it.
  21. I would litterally cack my pants if I saw one of those, and I was brought up in Australia. We sometimes used to get Huntsmen spiders which looked like big Tarantula's but were compleatly harmless. I remember my Mum trying to get one out our lounge room with a broom and watching in terror as this spider was attacking the brush. I also remember squashing red back spiders with shoes when I was about six or seven. Now, I would squeel like a girl guide in a Stephen King horror film if I came across one.
  22. That's what I would call "The Big Bang".
  23. I think he was also in Smokey and The Bandit 2 as the doctor who traveled with the elephant in the back of the truck. He was brilliant and enjoyed his acting alot.
  24. Hi there. Just a quick update. New remote turned up today. It appears to be the american one but all the buttons are present and correct. I followed the instructions to set the player up for region 2 but it doesn't seem to work. I might be doing somthing wrong so will have a look on the net to see if I need to do anything different. I am a step closer though. Thanks again for the advice. Jim.
  25. The reversing camera really does come in handy and has probably saved me two bumpers already. The bluetooth is good and the headlights are quite cool when you steer at night as they help you to see round bends. I'm not that keen on the six speed gearbox as it sometimes feels as though it has more gears than it knows what to do with, but the traffic re-routing on the satnav is very usefull. Just my two bob's worth.
