  1. Hi DJWozza, Thanks again. The three buttons I need, according to the instructions from the person who turned it into a multi region player are, Initial, Display and Condition. If your remote has these buttons then I will be off to Dixons tonight. Jim.
  2. Hi Lads. Thanks for the advice Normski, Steve, and DJWozza. I have sent an email to the remote controll website and asked if the remote has the buttons on it I need then I will be well away. Thanks again lads. Jim.
  3. Evening everyone. Hope you all had a good weekend. I went shopping on Fleabay yesterday and bought myself a Pioneer DVL-909 Laserdisc DVD player. It came with one of those all in one remotes but the player has been modified to me multi region. When you unplug it from the mains and plug it back in it defaults back to region one because of the modification. The all in one remote doesn't have the two buttons required on a Pioneer remote to change the region back to region two. The unit is about ten years old and I'm having trouble sourcing a remote on line. Could anyone throw some ideas in my direction where I could get a genuine Pioneer remote from the UK or USA? Everyone's help as always would be most appreciated. Jim.
  4. This doesn't suprise me at all. When I was looking for an LS430, I was bewilderd by the amount of abuse that some people give these cars. I must have looked at about ten or so till I found one that didn't look like someone had died in it.
  5. I once saw a driving school car do something very similar. I asked my pupil to pull up on the left behind a Kia Picanto with L plates on it. My pupil and I could hear this Picanto reving away and the back end of the car bobbing up and down as if the driver was having trouble balancing the accelerator and the bighting point of the clutch. The Picanto then rolled back about a foot, the engine bounced off the rev limiter and the pupil dumped the clutch. It left the fattest number 11 up the road I have ever seen.
  6. Evening all. I was just wondering who makes the gearboxes for all Lexus vehicles. I know that Jatco supply CVT and standard auto's to Nissan and ZF supply Mercedes Benz, BMW, Jaguar, but do Lexus make their own automatic's or are they made by some other company? Have a good weekend everyone. Jim.
  7. I thought for a moment that the GS300 was my old one. It's not though.
  8. I wouldn't have thought that it would be too easy. If you have the SEL or the Sport model it will have HID bulbs and that may well be a dealer job. Changing bulbs on cars is getting alot more complicated. I know a driving instructor who runs a Renault Modus and apparently it is a front bumper off job to change a headlight bulb.
  9. I went for Michelin Pilot Sports on my old GS300. They were quiet and had plenty of grip. Go to Costco as they were about £90 each.
  10. I had some fun with a boy racer on a dual carriageway once. I kept neck and neck with him. He had a Clio or somthing along those lines. We accelerated at the same rate, me sat in my LS compleatly relaxed whilst he's leaning over his steering wheel reving the nuts out of his poor little box, then I smiled and winked and left him for absolute dead. I know I shouldn't do it, I should know better but it made me laugh and compleatly ruined his day .
  11. The LS430 look a bit taller than the LS400. Is the 430 much bigger in terms of inside and outside dimensions? I've never hit my head getting in or out of mine.
  12. I always thought personally it might be somthing to do with the Skoda effect. You buy a Skoda, expecting the car and service to be pants, but it turns out to bu much better than you expected so you think it's brilliant. You buy a Lexus expecting the car and dealer to be brilliant, and even though the car and service turn out to be better than Skoda, you still think it's pants. Choose your dealers wisely is all I can say. I think the worst experience I have ever had is with Peugeot.
  13. Very clean example. That is the same colour as my old GS300. Some people thought it looked black if you gave it a good polish and a wax.
  14. If you have the sport, then it will have the standard fit HID lights which would have automatic headlight leveling so you won't have the switch. Jim.
  15. This happend to me outside a Lexus dealer right after a service. Once you have done it once, you never forget.
  16. My LS430 has VVTi and starts quickly weather it is hot or cold. It takes just under a second to fire.
  17. Right, who's been posting my exam answers?
  18. Mine is coming up for a major and was quoted just over £400 from a Lexus main dealer.
  19. It has probably made absolutly no difference whatsoever but I have ran mine on BP Ultimate 97RON for almost two years now. I have on the odd ocassion had to use 95RON unleaded and noticed no difference between the two. I did read somewhere that the higher the RON rating, the more complete the combustion is and the less build up of toot (can't think of the correst word) in your engine. Jim.
  20. Would nearly running over Vanessa Felts in Camden count as a story? It nearly happend. Would be nice to know who owned my LS previous to me. That might make a good story.
  21. Hi There. In terms of keys, make sure you have at least one master key. If you don't, then you will have to replace the ECU to accept new master keys and this was over £3,000 if I remember rightly. So you should have two master keys and a valet key. The valet key will not work the smart locking and also won't open the boot. As far as I am aware there is no radio code for the LS430. I do have the newer version though so it might be worth checking for the older version. You should have a locking wheel nut with the car. I belive these were a standard fot from Lexus. Mine came with a black box which had four regular wheel nuts and a locking key. The locking bolts had already been fitted to the wheels. It should come with a service book and a full service history. If it doesn't have a full service history then walk away. These may be reliable but I'd hate to think of the size of the bill if a new engine was required due to lack of maintenance. Also, press every single button and make sure it all works. The drivers handbook is very comprehensive and covers everything. There should also be a second book for the navigation and stereo, aircon etc. It is worth having this because some of the things, like setting up the bluetooth are not that easy sometimes. The SatNav is DVD based and is all on one disc. The DVD drive is located in the boot on the drivers side. The likelyhood is it will have the same disc from new and will need updating. You can do this through Lexus Map Updates website and I believe is preety reasonable. So long as you have a full service history, that is traceable and checkable with the dealers that have done the work, and everything works, then you should be onto a good one. It is also worth remembering that cambelts need changing after 10 years or 100,000 miles. Hope this helps, Jim.
  22. Now, this is the Granada that John Thaw and Dennis Waterman should have had in The Sweeney. I think it will go like stink in a straight line but stick it into a bend and it will be like trying to get Vanessa Felts up a fire escape. Impossible. Damn good effort though.
  23. This happend on my LS about a week before I took delivery. It was all coverd under warrenty though. It's not an easy job apparently but I do keep the air con switched on in the back all the time too. Hopefully this will make it last longer.
