  1. 10K is a competitive market...brand new vectra for £9995 :duh: With the diesel it appears you either love it or hate it. I had one for a few days and it was nothing special. I think the best thing you can do is ask to borrow it for a day and do some miles in it......just watch out when you pull out at that busy junction :o
  2. ive spoken to the dealer, the part ex they have offered is close to the book price (which is low),swings and roundabouts i suppose Doog, the thing is that nearly new cars are NOT selling anywhere near the book price, in fact if at all. A certain 530i I saw in July is now for sale in a different BMW garage - so they are just passing stock around! With hat is about to happen with RFL, no one wants a 4x4. I saw a Q7 3.0TDi S Line for sale at less than £28K - that's for a 1 year old car having covered 4000 miles. Boy was I tempted. But it was like driving a barge down the Old Kent Road... Hang in - name your price and wait... Ive named a price to a particular dealer for a 250. They are doing 4k off the list price but need to move on the part ex offered. Another dealer has offered the 4K off plus the 'book price' on the part ex. As we know the book price is poor. This 4k off business is down to Lexus GB so im hoping the dealers will still have plenty to play with. (They say the 4k is to compensate for the poor part ex values)
  3. I agree with above. A friend of ours did the same(filled it to the brim) and drove for about 10 miles before it stopped. My father in law syphoned the petrol out,put some diesel in and it was fine( and that was 3 years ago.) still running ok What makes a Lexus (Toyota) Diesel so different from any other ?

  5. its underneath the lower part of the rear windscreen. Open boot and look straight up (in the middle)
  6. This is a quote from a letter sent to me by Lexus offering a substantial discount off a new car 'The demand for approved pre-owned Lexus IS models is at an unprecedented level and our stocks are low enabling us to offer very attractive part exchange prices. There really is unlikely to be a more financially advantageous time to change your car' So I ring the dealer and ask them about part ex on my approved pre-owned Lexus that I possess and purchased from them last year. Salesman says words to the effect of: 'mmmm.... due to the current financial err climate/ situation etc your current car would have depreciated quite badly from what you paid for it'. I see: The 'very attractive part exchange price..'is very attractive to YOU not ME the customer got it :duh: (i Know the part ex situation but hey, this letter is just a damm lie isnt it) PS he hasnt rang back, that was 2 hours ago, clearly not interested despite demand for pre-approved being at an unprecedented level!!!
  7. +1 oops...thats going to make him feel better I daresay there will be lots of diesel owners piling on here wishing him well and telling him what a fab car it is. (ps im a neutral - although I did have one for 2 days - never again )
  8. ive been looking into this as well. My understanding is that people are going for the auto because its pretty damm good rather than the manual being bad. Apparently the auto will stay in the lower tax band as its more efficient and has lower emissions , so worth bearing in mind. I dont think there is to much of a hit on performance from manual to auto either
  9. Ive had a sneeky look since you first posted about the S80, havent seen a bad thing written about them. Just something about the shape that doesnt do it for me im afraid, i dont know if its a 'grower'.
  10. split seats...the golden nugget :winky: took my wife to see an IS250 yesterday as well as a GS300...mistake...her only requirements, must be able to get the back seats down and fit 5 suitcases of varying sizes in the boot..(3 growing kids)..thats what gets me about women all they think about is practicality she thinks the IS200 is a waste of space due to those very reasons..im afraid ive got some thinking to do :duh:
  11. The 14 day return agreement was never verbally mentioned to us otherwise we would have handed it back. My problems were well documented on here some time ago, so i wont bore everyone again with the whole lot but the above was one issue . Get this: Car advertised for £9995. I haggle hard for a £7K part ex for my old car and coughed up £3k to complete the deal. After the ISSUES arose I tried to invoke the 30 day money back or replacement vehicle clause. They said they couldnt replace the car so offered me my money back....£8995, 1K less than I paid for it. :tsktsk: I thought I had haggled up to 7K part ex!!!.I had in person but when it came to the paperwork he had reduced the screen price to £8995 without telling me and they tried to claim I was only given 6k part ex....and that I had signed the paperwork to that effect. I learnt a valuable lesson that day. Dont be taken in by the marble floors, posh lobby and free coffee and read the small print. Oh and A lexus approved service history doesnt mean it has a full service history another classic. I like that so much i might add it to all my posts
  12. QUICK UPDATE Went to another dealer (closer) who had a 55 plate GS300 for £16,700 and a 06 for £20 K I was offered 5K part ex for my 53reg IS200 with 52k on clock against either.I didnt haggle just wanted an idea of what mine was worth! so may get more with my serious head on. HOWEVER: Having recd an offer of £4000 off the price of any new luxus from the original dealer,my local dealer said they would match it on an IS250 and give me £4500 for mine as well. I cannot run to a new GS300 however, so the prospect of a new IS250 auto now appeals. This 4K off a price of a new Lexus is no big deal as drivethedeal.com can match that. What do you think of the part ex figures....Parkers quote £5800 for mine on 40k mileage, dont know what glass's quote..so with a bit of negotiation I may source a new IS250 for mine plus £16K which is just about doeable for me . Clearly I could try and sell it privately but trying to shift it could be a mare
  13. best of luck. the broken promises from the sales staff my worst experience in 25 years of motoring was dealing with Lexus sales staff. The fact that the guy who dealt with me 'moved on ' within a week and his boss is now history came as no suprise. In my case it was the managing director who made me keep the faith and got me back on board..the sales team at the time were sharks. Apart from the dealership side of things, were the faults you encountered with the vehicle the documented ones on this site associated with the diesel? or was it the IS in general.
  14. I dont think you all understood... you were meant to talk me out of getting it :P Lexus Hedge end tomorrow then (same dealership that offered me a straight 4K off any NEW Lexus)... the GS isnt new but clearly they want to shift cars..end of the month as well... you never know!
  15. reality kicks in : the dreaded part ex A 90 mile round trip to be told my IS200 is worth peanuts doesnt really appeal... :(
  16. had one of these as a courtesy car last year, wife loved it,kids loved it...I loved it but always thought i could never quite stretch to one... and this pops up... http://www.allapprovedcars.com/CarFullScre...px?Id=502061915 thats half price from new in 2 years 4 months with only 22k on the clock, chop in the 200 and its hopefully within range and would make a welcome addition to my mortgage Against 1. go on tell me its a girly colour 2. That interior is slightly girly isnt it? 3. Someone go and buy it QUICK 4. Tell me servicing costs are HUGE 5. MPG is a nightmare i daresay For 1. If im paying over £400 tax next year why not pay it to drive that? 2. That colours okay actually 3. I dont have to worry about MPG i commute on a bike so its gonna be a weekend car right 4. The wife likes it I would prefer a dark grey but bloody hell are prices dropping or what? What are they going for privately?
  17. Was it short notice? When my IS200 went in last year shortly after purchase I was given a new GS300 then a IS220 then back to the GS300 which i kept for another few weeks, i dont think they had any non Lexus courtesy cars. Brand new, within 4 months... a vectra :tsktsk: thats poor customer service
  18. thats the exact same feeling i got when I did my first test drive, plus that little bonnet bulge in your vision, shape of the bonnet, dash and rifle bolt gearchange..certainly feels special
  19. im contacting the dealer...4K off a new IS250 (bog standard) and book price for mine could mean a new one for £14 or £15K, now that could seriously tempt me IS200 's arent selling privately, I overhead Lexus staff saying they were desperate to get IS200 owners out of their IS200's and into IS250's ... mmm lets see what they offer me
  20. ''After crunching all the figures he offered me 7500 (£5000 for my car and £2500 of the list price of IS250). He thought my car was a Auto that's why he quoted 9500' £9500 part ex for a 53 plate IS200 auto , he's pulling your plonker surely
  21. mine wasnt quite in the same league, 2000 HPE but bits fell off it on a regular basis, rust issue was well sorted, parts were in short supply even back then when they had dealers here (mid 80's) . I should have said no when i blew the head gasket on the test drive but couldnt resist it once they had repaired it The strangest thing that happened to me was suddenly, when sat at lights, the roof lining collapsed onto my head!the whole lot! electrics were dodgy as expected but to wait a month for a petrol gauge to be imported from Italy was the norm! Its definatley one for an enthusiast :winky:
  22. Ive just been offered £4000 off a brand new Lexus or £4000 cashback on top of whatever they would give me part ex for mine....is this offer any good... came through the post from my dealership im not really looking but I daresay they would offer me peanuts for my IS200 and totally snuff out any interest
  23. Doesn't that ring alarm bells? ex Lancia owner here.. if you want a weekend blast go for it. Also being a neighbour he's unlikely to offer you a duffer is he
  24. the dreaded 'knock'..the only make of car in the world that has an undiagnosable 'knock' Ive got the knock, my whole car has been virtually replaced and the knock still exists..there is only one cure and at the moment its the Kings of leon...very loud B)
  25. havent read the whole thread but its true where I live, the retirement capital of the world Bournemouth / Poole area. There are loads and loads of IS200's all driven by old fogeys, also blue rinse ladies who can hardly see above the dash, (who really should be in micras ) I only ever see one green one on a regular basis and the driver must be knocking on 90 :winky: (seriously)
