  1. I would advise NOT going to Halfords. I had some granite sky made up, with proper paint code. I watched them do it and its laughable. They pour a bit of this and a bit of that into a pot and shake it. The measuring is done by hand. They show you the finished colour and if you agree it looks okay you buy it ... NO REFUND. Like a fool I thought It looked right, applied it to my plastic door trim and suddenly it had a nice purple previously unforseen 'tinge' to it.
  2. had the same problem, got the flywheel / clutch replaced under warranty by Lexus despite the fact they told me judder was 'normal' due to dual mass flywheel...Anyway its okay for now, however I fully expect the judder to return when more miles get put on it.
  3. I know what you mean. My thinking is that there's a bigger market for a Lexus than an MG though. The thing with the MG is it's a high performance car that's cheap to run, so they've always attracted people on a budget. And people on a budget aren't going to want 400+ a year VED. With a Lexus there might be people with a slightly higher budget for running costs. ..if you really, really 'wanted' a Lexus would you be put off by an extra £200 a year.?., obviously the price will drop as a result of the tax rise but hopefully most people will counter the tax rise against what they will make from the drop in price..lets be honest the IS200 is hardly a practical motor, people buy them because they want them and if you want something bad enough 200 notes isnt going to stop you getting it is it!
  4. Lexus clearly dont think its important as they sell so called 'approved cars' without full 'dealer histories' , (ie missed services) a Lexus approved history doesnt mean a 'full service history' according to them.... I usually get a car serviced at a dealer for the first 3 years from new then either do it myself or go independent
  5. My commute is 3 miles up a trailway, onto the road for a mile, over a narrow footbridge into the farmers field...through a field of cows, over a gate up the farmers track and 'over' the most congested road in Dorset (i used to sit in that very queue), back on the road for another mile or so (side roads) then through a forest plantation for 3 miles How that will feel on a January morning with horizontal freezing rain i dunno
  6. if you dont mind me asking but what age was your Lex and what did you get for it in part ex.? There was a thread on honestjohn where people couldnt wait to get there hands on a fuel guzzling beast, with the values dropping so fast it gives punters who value decent motors the chance to own one..i suppose the thinking is why would £200 a year extra in tax bother you when you have just saved ££££££££ due to its massive depreciation at the hands of someone else
  7. apologies if this has been posted before Clearly this wont apply to everyone (ie those who live miles from their workplace..)but if you live within cycling distance..(or even if you dont) ask you employer if they do the cycle to work scheme. If they dont try an encourage them to start it up http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/general,index.htm see how much you save here http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/employee,calculator.htm Ive just purchased a £700 bike and will pay £350 for it,interest free over 12 months. I live 9 miles from my work. 4 months ago I worked out a route on google earth in which I could avoid the main roads and 'went for it' on my trusty mountain bike.First time in the saddle in years. Ive now got the bug and purchased a better bike on the scheme at a bargain price. I commute 4/5 days a week saving over 300 miles of fuel a month in the IS200.(£60? ) Ive lost nearly a stone in weight and find myself frequenting cycling forums!! the missus thinks im a nerd, until i tell her what im saving in fuel..problem is now im spending more on cycling bits...clipless pedals, go faster tyres havent got around to shaving the legs yet :winky: but you never know! ps if you cant / dont want to cycle regulary you can still buy it on the scheme anyway, no matter how few trips you make..they dont check.. right im now off to http://www.bikeradar.com/commuting/forums/index.php?c=7
  8. thats sounds similar to my 'clunk'- . My car went back to Lexus under warranty numerous times, they changed quite a few things including shocks /top mounts, ball joints..the lot..I dont know who was the most fed up..me taking it back everytime or them not being able to resolve the issue... I have even had it checked by my vehicle workshops at work who got it on the ramps and they cant find anything wrong, nothing worn or loose. Im guessing its something really simple..ive noticed some play in the bonnet catch and you can move the bonnet slightly..could be that..i really cant be bothered anymore..seems like these cars do clunk Ive given up and just turn the stereo up now
  9. dont you think bad cop is actually a good cop for giving her two warnings..i mean how many warnings are required? I could understand if he was rude and reported her but wouldnt any of us take a warning from a 'rude' cop over being hauled in front of the magistrates without a warning. just a thought
  10. there are often two power connections to connect to the motherboard from the power supply...the big one with 20 pins and a smaller one with 4 pins...(check the cables from the power supply) without the smaller one connected you will get the light on but nothing will power up edited :as what geoffers basically states..make sure the 'power' on switch (from front of case)is connected properly to motherboard..those little plugs are easy to confuse also make sure motherboard is sitting on top of the spacers keeping it from touching the side of the case and shorting...(brass screws) chances are its something simple like this..unlikely to have shorted
  11. my wifes Hyundai had a similar issue, only this was the clutch playing up for months..Hyundai couldnt find it..they re greased the linkage, replaced a few springs and whatever.. no joy... i found it in the end.. pedal catching on the drivers mat which was loose..
  12. next thing we will be posting pics of our pedal cycles :) "Here's my Lex...and here's my daily transport"
  13. the squeeze is getting tighter...my electric and water bills have just gone up stupid amounts, luckily the mortgage was fixed last year..this in addition to the poss new tax and fuel issues has certainly made think about binning the motor.. however..two months ago i decided to start cycling to work (which was previously unthinkable for me) , 7 miles each way, must be saving £50 a month in fuel, decided that will offset the tax / fuel rises so will keep the Lex..getting fit in the process and shedding a bit of weight so cant be bad :winky:
  14. Chrylser Alpine - utter garbage Vaux cavalier sportshatch- Brit Manta :winky: Lancia HPE - loved it :D Daihatsu Charade No comment :shutit: Belmont SRI Boy racer Mondeo zzzzzzzz Vaux Vectra Utter sh_te Mazda6 Booooring -_- IS200 BEST OF THE BUNCH
  15. Dont do what I did and assume that just because you are buying from a main dealer that everything is rosy..and dont let your guard down ..for example.. Check that service history...a Lexus approved service history doesnt actually mean a 'full service history'...and that is a FACT...they miss services (or ex owners do) get your paws on the book and check it..(if it exists)..if no book get them to print out the computer records in front of you.To be honest its all on computer but you want a service book when you come to sell it privately!! (yes we do Lexus) Accident damage and warranty claims...naturally they wont tell you the 'truth' even if you ask now will they....do what I did..go to another Lexus dealer give them the reg and they will let you know the score on those warranty items. Indeed they will tell you every nasty little thing so that you dont buy it and buy from them instead :shutit: Contact the previous keeper if you can..i found his number on the paperwork they let me look through.. Forget the 30 day part exchange thing....they will try their hardest not to find a suitable replacement. Also remember that the part ex they offer you doesnt mean jack...(apologies if you know this) what they do is lower the price of the car you are buying (but dont tell you)so if you ever ask for a refund it wont reflect the part ex you agreed on. Only gets griefy when they cant be arsed to find a suitable replacement and you want your money back. Apart from that...Ive had no problems since and they have treated me very, very well Indeed one day I might stop dripping on about it...but not just yet.
  16. thanks for that Gord..quote for the trim was £79 +vat.. Lexus stated they dont do the spray paint anymore!! havent tried Toyota yet..problem is the other trim has a few dinks so need to way up the cost of getting two new trims or getting both sprayed.. Lexus pointed me towards the 'smart' body repair shop they use, will get a quote from them
  17. see my thread yesterday on Halfrauds paint matching service...take care... mine (granite sky)was so far out that the missus enquired why I was painting the car purple
  18. cheers..i will give that a go..I wonder if Halfords will refund my £10.99.(.more a point of principal after the bull they fed me after assuring me there paint matching was the bees bollox.).clearly it isnt
  19. I have a granite sky IS200 paint code 1C6....Someone has scratched the trim the length of one of the rear doors: (the trim that runs horizontally along the door) Went to Halfords who assured me that they do 50,000 colour matches blah blah so they made me up a can of 1C6 for £10.99...I thought I would try this route first Needless to say its much too dark even with laquer applied so am now looking at other options. Do Lexus do the trim...already painted? if so is it easy to fit If not, has anyone used the Lexus paint (appreciate should have tried them first)...?does it come in spray form Or should I just go with 'chips away' or similar and fork out and hope they can get a decent match any help appreciated.
  20. plenty down here in Poole / Bournemouth :winky: 5 or 6 a day here..saw my first Altezza in Poole on Sunday....blue noisy exhaust..Corfe Mullen area...any takers
  21. Its almost like my old thread......a 'Lexus approved service history' doesnt mean a 'full service history' In other words,If it doesnt have a full service history they just make one up and call it a Lexus approved service history :tsktsk:
  22. just seen this tip 'What this means is that it is well worth renewing your tax early if the increase is big. You want to buy a year's tax in February 2009 (to leave time before the increases which I believe are in March 2009). There's no need to get a six-month disc, buy a full year at next renewal, and apply for a refund on Friday January 30 2009. Then on February 1, buy the new tax disc. Obviously you will need to keep the car offroad for the two days in between, there doesn't seem to be a way around that issue. But the savings could be quite substantial.'
  23. cheers, ive signed it Ive looked at the list of cars in the same band and Im sure that when people eventually sus this out this govt will have a problem on its hands..many people just havent a clue that this will hit them. They really are putting the squeeze on joe public, pay rise for me (thanks govt) was under 2%, council tax gone up 5%, everything else going through the roof from electric to food in shops. Someone was saying that real inflation is actually running at over 13% Cost of military operations in Iraq and Afganistan this year will be £3.297 BILLION......how much next year?...funded by ??? rant over :tsktsk:
  24. thats it then...........history next year these things will be unsellable....as much as i like the car im not giving this government £400 so they spend it on a dishwasher in their second home needless to say the people who will gain will be the IS200 buyers in 2009 who will easily offset the difference by buying dirt cheap motors toodlepip
