  1. Indeed, I wonder who may have even suggested such a thing .....now let me think. I've just seen this thread reappear btw.....haha.
  2. But but but ...its HJ and the guys an expert . Hence I threw in the underwriters in the last sentence. I'm going to be brutally honest here and say I don't think I've ever read my T&C's fully. I'm aware of the modification aspect but its a short phone call to confirm, so easily done.
  3. In relation to MRI's the whole process of eventually getting them (dependant on your issue) can be quite long and convoluted. I must admit for my third scan (and having previously been through the system and surgery) I jumped the gun and went to this place. https://www.cobalthealth.co.uk/ I paid about £200 back in the day (prices start from £266 now). I was able to send this to my surgeons secretary (NHS) and went straight back on the list without having to wait months for an NHS MRI. I understand now the waiting list for scans etc is longer than ever due to Covid.
  4. I see this article from an Insurance expert on Honest John says no need to inform if doing it the other way - Non RF to RF https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/141618/do-i-need-to-tell-my-insurer-if-i-fit-run-flat-tyres- However if fitting non RF from RF then he previously advised that you should notify your insurance https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/82539/do-i-need-to-notify-my-insurer-of-a-modification-if-i-change-my-runflat-tyres- I would err on the side of caution if changing on a new vehicle and advise them. Although I think its highly unlikely it would be an issue most of the time, in the circumstances you suggest without doubt they'd drill down into the small print. Ultimately it would be down to the underwriters I guess.
  5. It was a harsh lesson to me in ignoring the acres of glass and marble and concentrating on the metal. The link is 'Snows', same group, all of these years later. Glad to hear Hedge End are much improved, the dealer principal was a genuine chap although I suspect he's long since retired. I did get restitution however so can't fault him for that.
  6. I'm afraid Lexus approved has meant nothing for many years. One of the reasons I joined this forum in 2007 was the appalling service I received from Lexus Hedge End . Its the reason I blather on about a Lexus approved service history meaning absolutely nothing. In my case my service history was forged, previous accident damage denied, them telling me the notorious flywheel issue was a 'characteristic' of the car.... I treat all main dealers, no matter what make, as potential sharks. Its just a shame not much has changed and we still read stories like this.
  7. Good to know. How about constantly criticising someones choice of car ? Is that not a wind up .
  8. I really don't blame him for having his cleaver out I think we should all be grateful that a certain poster now recognises the value of the Highway code.....how long did that take ?
  9. The second car market has gone nuts. Autotrader are quoting £32000 -£35,460 from a dealer, another site £35k for that reg. Its all due to the shortage of new vehicles (semi conductor supply).... many main dealer forecourts are half empty.
  10. This reflected my experience almost to a tee. I've had about five I think , keeping my eyes shut was paramount. I had a mild panic with the first which I guess was a touch of claustrophobia, I was simply Intrigued and wanted to take it all in before realising that was a bad idea ! Close eyes, think of good times, a holiday, just something( a little like the dentist). I've never fallen asleep so nice one
  11. Lovely car the IS200t with a very capable engine. I was lucky enough to own one for two years. There are years of posts on the subject of IS300h fuel economy but I guess it really depends on your driving style. I had some impressive figures driving the IS200t like Miss Daisy but felt I was often missing the strengths of the car, so spent most of the time in Sport Mode. You'll lose some performance with the swap naturally. Best of luck.
  12. Germany reckons it will need a 4% increase in their National grid to cope with an estimated 8 million electric vehicles on their roads by 2030. I guess it goes up incrementally. https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/electric-power-and-natural-gas/our-insights/the-impact-of-electromobility-on-the-german-electric-grid# They reckon 40% of charging will happen at home (or multi unit homes), 11% at work, 11% at public charging stations and the rest at van / fleet hubs. My observations knowing the country quite well are that they currently have twice the generating capacity as the UK from wind turbines as they are sodding everywhere ...that's as an aside. Try getting planning permission here. Just for info your house / plug / charging station can draw as much electricity as you need. If we follow Germany in the 40% home charge rate then expect overnight charging and economy 7 (remember that) to become the norm, so cheaper charging tariffs. I mean someone did say we had a load of electric going to waste at night.
  13. I have full permission from the better half to buy an RX450h...because I have a bad back. The newer the better. I don't quite have the same enthusiasm from said better half to spend the same amount on an RCF...work that one out I'm a saloon / coupe guy, the kids have gone but without doubt car manufacturers have fed into something that attracts the fairer s*x. It might not just be the ability to load kids in and out of it but a higher sitting position, more presence on the road per chance ?..Kudos on the odd occasion I guess. I live near a private school. The daily procession is school run mums in big expensive SUV's driving very fast.
  14. Sorry 'mate' but I don't believe for a minute you would drive a Lexus that didn't fit your view of what a Lexus should be. Without doubt the performance would be pretty dire and having read thousands of your posts moaning about performance across every model apart from the ISF / GSF / RCF and stacking up rival companies as a comparison why would you suddenly change your tune now ? If you really felt that strongly you'd dip your toe in the water, get the Toyota but you won't because its slow and expensive. Its also not a million miles away quality wise than some of the offerings Lexus pertain to be a Luxury vehicle so don't blame inferior quality. A hydrogen Lexus will also be slow (by your standards) and even more expensive.
  15. In the interest of balance I watched this last night. Harry Metcalfe Interviewing Lord Bamford and getting a look at JCB who have developed their own hydrogen engine, mainly because of the impracticalities of powering those sort of vehicles with batteries and their workload . Lord Bamford touches on many of the concerns raised on here including some of the politics involved. I think we need to keep an open mind on the way forward. Certainly if heavy Industry type vehicles (HGVS / Plant / Tractors etc) can get a grip on hydrogen we might expect to see it expand quite rapidly elsewhere.
  16. Notwithstanding the car will take you to exactly where its needs to charge with a myriad of alternatives. The EU probably puts the UK in the dark in relation to charging options. Jesus I'm not even an EV convert but some of the dinosaurs on here are digging a quite dramatic hole for themselves. Suddenly we have experts in how the national grid will look in a decade (despite a massive heads up).... these same experts would clearly struggle to wire a plug.
  17. Its normal here mate...not sure what its like in your neck of the woods.
  18. Yeah lets go to Fort William because its the only place with a Tesla supercharger lol 😆.... It's not actually, there are loads within an hour or so drive, something like 15 ! I'm actually surprised someone would even think that but hey ho. This is the UK not the Hindu Kush the last time I looked.
  19. It's typical of English 'suburbia'. I accept that there are places that will struggle. I wonder if the ability or not to charge an EV from home will impact house prices at some point in the future, in the same way poor broadband might influence buying decisions.
  20. To be fair most contributors on here are from Europe and lets be honest its a luxury car forum so its an apt subject. Regarding enough electric to supply cars, without doubt the network will be upgraded. As I said however I'm on the fence about it, no strong feelings either way but I'm surprised at the anti EV sentiment on the thread.
  21. Do you class someone with the capacity to plug a car in at as home rich ? I live in a typical town, about 150,000 folk, the majority are not rich and knowing the area extremely well I'd estimate 70% have the capacity to plug a car in at home. I've said before that I'd rather see more Investment in public transport / cycling Infrastructure than public money used to set up charging points (my guess is this will be a joint enterprise. Regarding Lithium mining I don't know enough about it allegedly destroying the planet.
  22. I'm on the fence about the whole thing but someone on the EV side did ask how many of us refuel our cars at home? Home charging is ideal for those of us who can but isn't the long term idea that charging stations get 'super quick' . According to this article, charging as fast as refuelling at a petrol station is the aim and it may well happen in the next 4-8 years https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwinton/2021/01/31/electric-car-charging-as-fast-as-gasoline-is-the-aim-but-barriers-remain/?sh=73e40ec12eba
  23. edited for forum sanity...and mine ...I think I'm out. Chapeaux.
