  1. After 11 years of ownership I only had two bulbs replaced both were the small parking light on the front right....I'm under the impression that the rears are LED??
  2. My 17" as per your lower of two pictures were not good....car now 11 years from new 238k klms...nothing ever wrong but EGR cleaning and wheels...shouldn't complain really.
  3. Anyone tried Mobile refurbs...cannot afford to lose car for 3 days...thanks again.
  4. Are there any operators refurbing / swopping wheels in the Notts / Derbys area...I live in Ireland nobody over here but going to UK later on in the year. Appreciate hearing from someone thank you.
  5. I concur...I too wonder about the gunk in the manifold but err on the side of caution believing it's not worth poking a hornets nest with a stick...LOL I never have dismantled the valve ...just played it safe and give it a good scrub with carb cleaner and the old toothbrush...so far so good. Thanks for getting back.
  6. Shahpor...how often do you clean your EGR. I've had my IS220D since new 2007...only ever went into crawl home mode once!! After that I found out about the EGR and clean it every 15000 klms (9300 miles)...never had an issue since and my frequency is about right as it always needs the cleaning I give it...2mm coating throughout. I use carb cleaner and a toothbrush. Any tips...if I was giving a tip it is two-fold look after the gasket and make sure it goes on the same way and two..only remove one of the fastenings on the metal tube as there is just enough room to rotate it and remove the valve. In the past I removed the tube and had an almighty struggle getting it back on as the fastening at the bottom is buried deep.
  7. IS220D... 2007 from NEW...no issues...clean EGR every 15,000 klms (9300 miles) Total Gallons Total Miles MPG 3327 146154 44
  8. Had my IS220D NEW in 2007....still going like a Swiss Watch...well serviced and EGR cleaned every 15000 klms...always fill the tank and always kept a record of the fills....see below: Total Litres Total Klms Klms/Ltr 15127 235212 16 Total Litres Total Miles Miles/Ltr 15127 146154 9.662 Total Gallons Total Miles MPG 3327 146154 44
  9. Why was I under the impression that the bonnet was aluminium?....Maybe not?
  10. Neat job...however I would say under winter conditions seldom the temp changes that much having read it once. Also the VSC light will flicker and will beep if the wheels spin on any ice. I'm not knocking you as I said neat job and tastefully done.
  11. I own the IS220D...have owned many petrol inc two petrol Mercs...one thing struck me looking at the photos of the old plugs the gap looked large? I'm not saying it is as I don't know the spec. Did you photo graph the NEW ones and do they come with the gap set?
  12. Quote last paragraph of my previous advice: FORGET USING JUST AN ADDITIVE until you've cleaned it back to metal manually first and get a clean start...additives may well prolong the time span between cleaning and may well prevent build up but if you've already got build up I can tell you it wont clean with additive alone. You'll be surprised at how resistant the gunk is when you tease it off with a small blade screwdriver and toothbrush it clean using the odd squirt of carburetor cleaner but as a say if you want it cleaned properly DIY and elbow grease is the way to go It's a dirty job enough dress for the occasion...LOL You did notice this in my post didn't you...FORGET USING JUST AN ADDITIVE It's apparent your opinion is just as valid as mine....BUT...there is a distinct difference which I went to great length to make and that is when you get back to a thoroughly cleaned EGR by all means use additives but do not rely on additives alone to rescue an EGR that is all coked up. You purchased such a car that was on it's knees for the want of a specific maintenance issue ...the one we're discussing! Your method worked for you my method worked for me. Your method cost you money my method cost me time and a bit of diligence. Both work. My response to your claim of cleaning an EGR being a waste of time as it only lasts a few days needed to to be made as that is untrue in 99% of cases and in itself was a sweeping statement. The advice I gave took into account more than one method and the difference between them in order to assist the OP in his endeavour to keep his car on the road with minimal issues. That's all. You stated is was a bad idea needed a response, The answers you believe I need are not answers for me your context shows they are answers for you and maybe others like you that find themselves with a car that has not been fully maintained. I pointed out I got caught out once but never again, simply maintained the car as it should be maintained...don't tell me or anyone else looking for constructive advice that's a bad idea and leave it at that. I'm 10 years on this forum with trouble free motoring with the same car 235,000 klms...some of it luck perhaps and some of it being aware and proactive. Thanks for all the info but thankfully it wasn't me who looked for the advice. We both gave advice perhaps either will work for Gossy1988 that's all that matters...this isn't about Good Vs Bad. It's about being as helpful as we can.
  13. On the contrary...it's a great idea....unless you want to crawl home at 20 mph. Cleaning the EGR is like changing the oil filter...necessary maintenance! The idea it works for a couple of days is I have to say very very far fetched in my experience. By the way what do you mean when you say cleaning?....do you mean a fuel additive? or taking it out and cleaning it with carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush meticulously? I do the latter and never had an issue after I got caught in crawl home mode the first time....9 years ago...same car.
  14. No I don't use Supermarket fuel ....not by choice, just that my local filling station is Esso so that's what I use...Low Sulphur Diesel. Interestingly if I do 100 klm per hour = 62 mph my engine is 2000 rpm in 5th and 70 mph in 5th 2500 rpm that's almost a full 1000 revs lower than what you report? I never use 6th at all for years...I get good return in mpg and no EGR issues because as stated I clean it every 8000 klms (5000 mile) sometimes it really needs it and other times not. I suspect town/urban driving in low gears isn't friendly to EGR either. I live in a rural situation with medium length journeys so the engine at least gets warm etc. Jumping in the car to do multiple 2-3 mile journeys wouldn't allow the engine to warm and an owner doing predominantly short journeys shouldn't in my opinion buy any diesel let alone the Lexus IS220D with known EGR issues. I live in Ireland where we have NCT (National Car Test) you have MOT ...how would a car go through the test re: emissions etc if EGR blanked (I haven't a clue just asking) some mods work out others don't.
  15. I've a question for you about your driving style....my IS220d is now 10+ years and 235k klms. I too had problems with sooting up because I inadvertently used to drive in 6th gear at 70-75 mph. BAD idea....NOT FAST ENOUGH and sooting reoccurs very quickly and EGR needs cleaning. I followed advice on here and just more or less forgot I had 6th gear always use 5th as my top gear....sooting decreased instantly and I just clean it as a matter of course being proactive about every 8000 miles no problems since I adopted this maintenance regime. However your post does refer to a possible fault of the EGR itself which I accept is another possibility. Interested to hear your comment about 6th and your style maybe a factor. The fact that you car drives leads me to think you EGR is OK and your use of the 6th at relatively slow speed (better at a constant 90 mph) maybe part of the issue. My overall mpg or in my case ltrs/100 klm is 6.5 litres and 42 mpg since the very beginning i have a spreadsheet of every litre of Diesel filled.
  16. The exact same thing happened to mine on this nearside back corner as per your picture....what I did was to glue a block of plastic material underneath the resting position at the correct height to prevent the gater going down into the pocket and the other clips retain their positions....nothing is seen and it works fine. Have to say the clips are really flimsy and purchasing a new mounting etc is out of the question when you think about it. WHY? Well the same thing could happen within a week....it's a badly constructed component and in my view pointless throwing good money at it ....improvise and it'll be fine. My vehicle is IS220D 2007 so probably the same part.
  17. As Brechin Slate mentions...the windows need resetting every time the battery is disconnected or as in this case changed. The windows will work without resetting but don't leave it at that because maybe in two weeks times on a wet day you'll go out to the car and find all the windows halfway down and the interior in a complete mess. As indicated by Brechin do each window separately with their own switch on each door ...as follows: 1) Let the window down completely 2) Hold the switch in the up position so as to close the window...KEEP THE SWITCH HELD UP...for a few seconds say 4-5 after the window closes...you may hear a beep you may not! 3) Repeat x the other 3 All the other stuff can be figured out but this one if ignored will possibly cause you the most grief by getting the interior wet or you're robbed.
  18. Having said they were showing leniency you the say..." What's the betting the gendarmes will be on the lookout for GB cars?" I'll point out that the UK Police forces country wide enforce the driving rules too...best stay at home if you feel you are going to be picked on. However I'll grant you that the info is worth knowing....almost forgot... drive on the right hand side in case the Gendarmes notice! (TIC)
  19. No 1 suspect EGR valve...whilst awkward in some respects it can be done DIY...also follow the info re disconnecting the battery afterwards as this will usually reset the warning lights. Plenty of info re self cleaning EGR to include the need to do it very well as long as you've a few spanners and follow the pics/instructions the only thing you need is some carburettor cleaner and a old tooth brush...clean meticulously...one awkward nut (bottom) of 2 no need to remove just loosen and the steel pipe will swivel enough so long as the (top) of 2 is removed. Be very careful with the gasket (do not damage hard to get) take a photo with phone so it goes back on the same way. Good luck...
  20. Plenty comment on this issue....1) Clean EGR Valve 2) Have battery disconnected whilst doing it to save time doing it separately. Sometimes just cleaning EGR valve alone VSC light goes off....sometimes NOT ....BUT disconnecting battery for 30 mins or so always resolved it for me. IMPORTANT....when battery reconnected and light hopefully reset to OFF....I would advise you reset ALL windows starting with the drivers window...let down and bring back up holding the UP position for a few seconds after full closing (you may hear a beep). Do same with all other doors using their own door switch (don't use front door pairs...go to each switch) You should be OK. If you don't do this with the windows you'll come out someday to find all your windows halfway down and if it has rained quite a mess made. Plenty of info available on how to clean EGR 30 min job DIY OK...(one awkward bolt below pipe...just loosen do not remove it the pipe will rotate enough)...hope you get sorted. PS ....BE VERY CAREFUL WITH GASKETS
  21. 70 mph in 6th is in my experience too slow for this gear and it follows revs also low....carbon etc in DPF will build quickly. Your EGR valve probably completely caked up as well.
  22. The whole car is only as good as the tyres...I always put on the best boots I can get to avoid owning a pile of scrap after encountering any dodgy road surface where really good tyres save the day. There's one area I never try to save money on with any car....tyres. I always put on 4 new boots when changing I believe it's false economy to drive on a set that's mixed by brand and wear. Driving wheels in this case being rear wheel drive would for me demand two new rears at least....and good ones at that.
  23. And?? I've driven down the road and been one of three IS220Ds in a line....this stuff happens
  24. Sometimes if the battery has been disconnected this happens....reset all 4 windows as follows, Fully open each window in turn and then one at a time close them by holding the door trigger on each door until fully closed...KEEP the switch held up in that position and do not release for a few more seconds, I believe you'll here a "beep" do all four separately (do not use the front door pairs of switches to do the back windows use their own switch on each door). This resets the door windows to some kind of a default setting. Happened to me a few times before I figured what was happening (maybe with the help of someone on here) my Lexus IS 220D is almost 10 years old, it maybe different for newer models. Vrmm Vrmm
  25. With paint this soft I wouldn't go near it with a mop....too severe...stick to elbow grease!
