  1. and if the speedo was reading 45ish then you were really only doing around 40mph so the difference between the true speed and the GPS could be caused by the altitude.
  2. It's 10% slower because your speedo is set to read 10% faster than the actual speed. All speedos in UK cars read above the true speed.
  3. I doubt the backlight has a separate fuse within the vehicle. The screen itself probably has an internal fuse on the backlight inverter board but they don't normally blow unless something has gone wrong so you may have to look for a new screen. :(
  4. 100,000 miles or 10 years is correct. Worth checking the belts condition at 60,000 then every 10,000 miles.
  5. The biggest issue for Lexus is the engines they use are designed for a worldwide market, the US mainly, and therefore CO2 levels are not a primary design issue. BMW and MB being European based and having a massive company car market do everything they can to lower CO2 levels. Toyota seem to have slipped back in standard engine technology whilst focusing on hybrid. They need to step it up again or produce hybrid powerplants for all their models.
  6. If things don't feel right then walk away, there are plenty other examples for sale. Make sure you get your deposit back. However I would double check with the service book. Phone the dealers who serviced the vehicle to confirm the stamps are genuine. If the vehicle is a 2000 X then that is some serious usage to get 31,000 on the clock in a little over 6 months!
  7. Yes check it has a flashlube. General things to look out for: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/knowledge...p;id=16&c=3 Check the gearbox fluid, make sure the colour is a nice pink/red. If it is dark red/brown or smells burnt then walk away.
  8. It is recommended to check alignment after replacing the ball joints. IS200 settings are in the knowledgebase, I imagine they are the same for the AS200 http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/knowledge...mp;id=1&c=5
  9. I would say the steering is slightly heavier on the IS than RX (probably due to smaller diameter steering wheel) but not that much and certainly it should self center.
  10. Is this the same for the Mk1 GS300's? yes, they basically have the same engine
  11. Hi Derek, don,t worry about taking off the sump, it is simple. Don't disconnect any pipes, remove sump and let the car stand for an hr or so and let the oil drain out when you take off the filter more oil will come out and wait for that to stop ( make sure dust and dirt around - must be clean) wash out your filter and stick a new gasket or O ring on replace the sump and top up your oil with at least 3 or 4 ltrs start the car let it idle for 3 min( make sure handbrake is on) select reverse and check your oil level select park and top up if necessary repeat process for all gears once the level is correct road test the car changing the gears manually eg 1st 2nd 3rd to drive drive for approx 20 min for oil to get to correct temperature check level total job 20 min to repair 1/2 and hr to drive :) finally check for any leaks and your job is done I hope this works for you Terry That procedure will only replace 1/3 of the fluid. It is fine if you do it every year or so to keep the fluid fresh however if you need to replace all of it you have to disconnect pipes etc.
  12. Red coolant can be used, although it should be changed every 20k miles. The pink stuff lasts much longer.
  13. If the belt goes on a 300 you just put on a new belt, no engine damage.
  14. yes, although they need to do a diesel hybrid for the company car market.
  15. yes if you want to replace all the fluid you have to drain the pan and refill then disconnect the pipe going from the cooler to the gearbox, start the engine, allow 1l to drain out, stop engine, add 1l of fuild and repeat until the fluid coming out is nice and clean. Then check the fluid level with the engine running having put the gear selector slowly from P to L and back to P. Drive for 20 mins and then check the level again with the fluid hot.
  16. 4l of genuine Toyota T-IV cost me something like £45. Total rip off in the UK. US prices are much cheaper. I wouldn't use anything other than T-IV for a series II GS.
  17. discs are easy to change, especially on the front. Just unbolt the caliper and the disc should fall off. Just make sure you support the caliper so you don't damage the flexible brake line.
  18. hopefully never. However it's worth checking the level and that it is still nice and pink in colour. I doubt may Lexus dealers in the UK has any 5 speed auto experience, they are very reliable. I would suggest posting on the US forum, or even some of the other US Lexus forums, as there are many more GS430 owners there.
  19. worth checking the company policy for having an allowance. It may state your vehicle needs to be under a certain age. If you purchase second hand and the policy states your vehicle has to be under 3 or 4 years old then you will be changing it often, with all the expenses that entails.
  20. No particular way, you just need the correct disc for your system. There are 3 or 4 different revisions of the Lexus DVD Nav unit which require different discs. Your one is probably a series 2.
  21. The GS has a Thatcham approved alarm so it has to have interior sensors, either microwave or ultrasonic. On the Series II it is in the centre console however the series I alarm isn't factory fitted, it was installed when the vehicle enters the country, so it's not a well integrated.
