  1. Daniel hi, I have bought T4 from these people online before ,it is about the right price and delivered free. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321353751075?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Be carefull at your local Toyota dealer my local one tried to sell me Dexron 3 and insisted that was what they used . Make sure you check the level when car is hot and with engine running to get the hot level . I hope you get it sorted
  2. Compared with some of the PITA oil filters and drain plug locations on some of the cars I have had over the years the LS is pretty easy . As Ambermarine has stated no need to remove the under tray . Best of luck with yours .
  3. Mark hi ,when just doing an oil change I use the Lexus jack on the passenger side and an axle stand under the cross member .The slight angle towards the drain plug helps with draining the old stuff out and and the extra height on the passenger side allows easier access to the filter ,I am a bit of a porker so need a fair amount of clearance .
  4. Hi Jim ,the Mk3 UK models didn't come with a fan fitted .It is not hot enough here to warrant one it seems ,on the Mk 2 you do get a cooling fan, seems like another cost cutting measure that was coming in for later models .
  5. Nice tutorial Paul , what puzzles me though is where you found a smooth stretch of road in Kent .
  6. Hi Stuart ,Malcs right the radio codes rarely seem to be set ,the big advantage of having it built into the car rather than an easily stolen slot in unit. From the handbook ,my interpretation is that if you don't see "SEC" appear when you turn the key to ACC then the code is not set ,my interpretations are often prone to errors though as she who knows best is always telling me.
  7. Hi Colin , on the Mk3 the fan control rocker is not actually the the electrical switch ,this is two rubber pads behind the rocker that make contact with the PCB much like a computer keyboard or remote control arrangement . If the plastic rocker part is broken you can replace this on its own ,if as is more likely it is the PCB or the rubber pads that are the problem you could try cleaning them with some isopropyl alcohol or similar . Although Ian's idea is usually a good idea in most cases I don't think it would work hear as the rocker part is someway from the PCB . In order to try cleaning ,the unit would need removing from the car ,this is a fairly easy job . http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/headunit.html Although this shows a Mk1 the procedure is very similar . If you need the plastic fan rocker part I have a spare one . Good luck with getting it sorted .
  8. Hi Ian ,not sure how much extra horse power the fan mod gives you ,the fan ,shroud and clutch weigh about 2 kilo's so you get a little weight removed plus as you mentioned the effort from driving the thing . The fans have been fitted for over nine months on mine with no cooling issues ,I can just about hear them running with the window open and engine idling . Never seen a fan of any sort on a bike ,the ones I used ride many years ago were all air cooled .
  9. Ian hi ,the big difference is the amount of space to work on the front of the engine .From the cooling angle I have not noticed any change in the temp level . On my no3 Mk3 which also has the fan mod I have been to mid Wales and back a trip of over five hundred miles from north Kent with no problems .
  10. Just got back from the MOT with my 20year old 165,000 mile beater ,passed ok with a bit of exhaust paste and a headlight bulb . I have to agree with previous posters ,it is so pleasing to know you have another year of joyous motoring to look forward to . The headlight bulb failure after only 20 years is a worry though.
  11. Hi Norman ,you need a 14mm socket or spanner on the tensioner bolt to release the belt tension there should be only one belt, turn anti clockwise to release. Once the belt is out of the way you can undo the bolt holding the tensioner idler ,it is a left hand thread so clockwise to undo the bolt . There is a tutorial on Lexls about replaceing the belt that shows how to release the tension and gives a belt routing diagram for reassembly. If you are going to replace the top idler bearing as well the bolt on that is a normal right hand thread type. I cannot remember the exact torque settings for the bolts I think they were 25lb for the tensioner bolt and 27lb for the top idler . http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/maintenance/drivebelt.html On my beater I have plenty of room to work at the front of the engine having replaced the boat propeller with an electric fan and removed the shroud from the radiator ,makes life so much easier . Good luck with your repair.
  12. Hi Norman ,the one with the peg on looks like the belt tensioner idler . Steve2006 posted the following info about the idler bearings in a post about mice and squeaks a while back, below are the sizes of the bearings you need from Steves info . Best to replace both if they have not been replaced before . Tensioner bearing is 6203 RS 17 x 40 x12 http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649 Idler bearing is 6301 2RS 12 x 37 x12 http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649 The bearings are cheap and fairly easy to replace ,if you search for Steves post he explains about the removal of the tensioner idler and gives the torque settings for the bolts . Good luck with yours.
  13. Nice work Adam . I think if my old Mk2 passes the MOT ok on Monday this will be my next job as I also have brake judder when breaking from high speed and suspect this could be the problem . A good clean up like you have illustrated would be well worth doing when fitting new discs to prevent later problems .
  14. Hi Steve , I have Found the 92-94 mk2 are correct as stated on the US site ,the 94-97 mk3 RHD have 9 capacitors the values are as stated by Rudy .
  15. Hi Rudy ,you need something like this to replace your broken stud any old bolt will not do . http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHEEL-STUD-BOLT-HAIRPIN-LEXUS-IS-GS-RX-LS-TOYOTA-SUPRA-SOARER-RAV4-REIZ-PICNIC-/261502866793?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyres_Trim_Nuts_ET&hash=item3ce2c91569 Marks instruction for removal of whats left is right . You didn't go to quickfit by chance .
  16. Malc hi , this is what I used for mine . I only used 1metre so it is a little bit shorter but has been doing the job ok for a while now . http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Copper-Tube-Cu-10mm-x-1000mm-Diameter-x-Length-/220727640070?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&hash=item3364648006 I only used 1metre so it is a little bit shorter but has been doing the job ok for a while now ,the guy dropped it off to me on his way home .I have had stuff posted from them before it took a couple of days ,they have an outlet on Sittingbourne Euro link estate if you don't want to wait that long . Good luck with it.
  17. Hi Malc ,it could be leaking from the power steering fluid cooling pipe which is that long U shaped thing behind the front grill.
  18. I agree with all the other guys who have asked you to stay a member on the forum Abermarine . As William has offered the olive branch ,it would be nice if you could pick it up and we could move on from this back to what is important ,the LS series of cars .
  19. William hi, I have to agree with Steve about charging the battery the LS is known to do strange things when the battery is flat . I thought Abermarine was just agreeing with Steve's post about the battery ,not having a go at you . I took the centre caps peeling post to be a bit of a tongue in cheek post ,maybe I got the wrong end of it as I often do. Good luck with sorting it ,from the other Victor Meldrew .
  20. Thanks Eff , I can understand the use of abbreviation when text messaging on a mobile but otherwise its not for me. I am known in my family as a bit of a Victor Meldrew ,my daughters often refer to me as the grumpy old git when I try to correct them for using text speak.
  21. Unfortunately the Mk2 dosen't seem to have the extending sun visor ,but the velvet like feel of them and the headlining is much nicer than the plasticy Mk3 ones in my humble opinion.
  22. Sorry to hear about your woe JPJ . I have to agree with Malc and Mark about a replacement ,a whole car would probably be cheaper than just an engine ,plus you would have a load of other spare parts . Best of luck with whatever you decide to do .
  23. Rich hi ,my experience was very similar to Andys , just let the ECU acclimatise for a minute or two after instal before firing it up. I always disconnect the battery to be on the safe side when working on the electrical s , the ECU on theMk2 is located behind the passenger kick panel and is fairly easy to remove. Below is the link to the US Lexus site with all the info about the capacitors you need ,you cannot use any old electrolytic caps they have to be the correct types . http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html It is well worth doing ,a great low cost improvement .Took my number 3 Mk3 which is the most recent one I have done this on out for a spin last Friday and the improvement in performance was quite noticeable . Good luck with yours .
