  1. its the magnatec 5W30 C3 i usually do about 1000miles per month but not so much these days and change every 10,000 miles.. the Mobil ESP and Castrol Edges's I feel are overkill for these type of engines. maybe if you own a GTR or IS-F then might make sense to stretch for those type of oil's. ive used the Castrol 5w30 c3 in my previous Lexus's and Accord 2.4 and noticed the same quietness and less oil burning compared to the equivalent Mobil, Shell 5w 30 oils i tried. worth giving it a try as it more than meets and exceeds oil requirements for the GS/IS engines. https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69393-castrol-magnatec-stop-start-5w-30-c3-fully-synthetic-car-engine-oil.aspx?VariantID=91992
  2. a quick search on Opie oils showed reasonably prices 6 litre oils ranging form £30 and above.. i personally use Castrol 5w 30 C3 as i found engine does not burn oil as quick as Shell 5w30 or Mobil 5w30.. castrol also makes the engine more quieter i found https://www.opieoils.co.uk/f/2354/8971/2006/engine-oil.aspx
  3. for a budget of £2500 you could pick late models IS200/IS300's but better to go for IS250's if you can stretch for another £500-£1000 on your budget. benefits if IS250 its more fuel efficient due to being direct injected, its newer compared to gen 1 is200's, its chain driven so no cam belt needs changing. so best to stretch for gen 2 IS or GS.. less previous owners the better
  4. Hi Steve, the GS's/LS's are more setup on the comfort side than the IS's but will on depend on your initial buying budget, and running cost budget like insurance, fuel, road tax etc.. although i owned a first gen IS300 i heard the 200 was not that great on fuel for a 2 litre. the 300 was quiet comfortable but not as comfortable as both my GS's so best to test drive all 3 models IS, GS, LS and see the one you feel more at home with and take things from there..
  5. could it be it detects how much light/dark it is outside and adjusts accordingly? i'm guessing on your way back was more darker outside than when you set off on your journey? also which setting do you have your cluster set to? mines on auto-Hi which brights up more at night but less so during the day.
  6. M and AMG cars are off your list anyway since you deemed or gave us the notion of them being "over kill" for what you wanted and their higher consumable running costs. I think you keep chasing your own tail here.. you and I know any car is a "compromise" a Lambo may go fast in a straight line but may go slower than a 2018 FWD Civic Type R around the Nürburgring same way a Lex may be very comfortable and quiet but will not take speed round a corner like a BMW would so every car is a compromise of some sort.. what makes you think if you should get your hands on an RC350 tomorrow you wouldn't like how the steering feels or exhaust not might be too loud or too quiet for your liking. lets be honest you made a wrong purchase with the RC200t which is not a bad car for the right person but for you it was the wrong purchase. you don't like the fuel consumption you don't like the acceleration you don't like the fact its 4 cylinder you don't like the gearing Sell it and buy something like this Here i am not a fun of BM's but these models for starters are not common on the roads its petrol its 6 cylinders its does not hang about everyone knows its "prestige" brand yes interior looks dull compared to RC in your eyes but that 1 compromise you will have to deal with with 17k budget you can easily get price down a further 1k on initial cost and get a 5k warranty on it for peace of mind. i think this model actually ticks 70 to 80% of what you're looking for the 20% should be the compromise.. whereas the RC200t actually meets about 40% of your requirement which is only the looks 60% which is the engines and drivetrain you don't like.
  7. I personally love both the petrol or hybrid pack a punch a masculine looking car, its not common on the road. built by Nissan so you know some GTR techs will be lurking under that bonnet 🙂 interior might not be to everyone's taste but to me it's got everything i would want spec wise and if i had a spare budget and was in the market for a luxury sports coupe with 6 cylinders this car will be on top of my list.. both petrol or hybrid
  8. And that's why with everything is always good to shop around, read terms and conditions and stick within budget and what one can afford and not "bite more than one can chew".
  9. Yeh that's why its always good to purchase a warranty package from a reputable company to go with such cars for extra peace of mind. and all that's left to deal with will just be the usual consumables brakes, tyres and oil /fluid changes.
  10. And this was the point i was trying to make. sooo many cars out there you could buy for between 10k to 17k and i would do the same. spend around 10 to 12k on the car then use 5k for warranty. new reg on a car does not always mean good to drive.
  11. beg to differ.. quick search on autotrader returns countless results 4 series's, E classes, A5's, Infiniti's, Gen 2 IS250's heck even XK jag's all coupe's both petrol or diesel's. 6 and 8 cylinders and all were by passed for a 4 cylinder which was slated by the same person and to make matters worse £17,000.00 was parted away with just for the sheer looks and nothing else not even how it drove .. and that was me thinking my Mrs. was terrible with money. the world never ceases to amaze me 😄
  12. Silly question but have you tried switching the type of fuel you're currently using? after owning 3 types of Lexus's i've noticed some fuel types makes them run a bit sluggish and harsher engine noise.. best ones i've noticed is Esso 97 runs more smoother and less noise and best engines pickup, Shell 95 runs ok but slightly noisier engine noise and Vpower 99 runs smoother and less nosier engine compared to shell 95 but not better than Esso 97. if you already haven't, maybe try switching fuel brands and see if engine behaves differently.
  13. was torn between the V6 Legend and GS when i was deciding to change from the Accord.. Which was a fine car by the way and bulletproof engine but the GS won me over again. i still find my self lurking online looking at Legends every now and again. very understated car would have sold like toilet roll if it had a German badge on it.. When i was in the market for a nice coupe cruiser some years ago, the Accord coupes V6's caught my attention but by the time i was ready not good examples were out there so settled for Ford Cougar with the Porche built V6 engine nice cruiser for its time.. some ford models are underrated and the Cougar V6 was one of them..
  14. Am I missing something here?? its a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine so why expect a 6 or 8 cylinder engine sound from it? the best sounding 4 cylinders in my books are that of Honda high revving engines all these modern 2.0 turbos don't rev that high to off that sporty sound..
  15. I have owned 3 Lexus's including my current one of which I usually put around 13,000 miles per year on average and have never done a full flush on any of them. i usually do a drain and refill every 30,000 miles on them and they all shift and drive fine with no issues. if a drain and refill still does the job and transmission still shifts smoothly why pay extra for a full flush?? i can understand if a flush brings extra benefit over a drain and refill but my current GS has been drained and refilled and i still cant tell when the car shifts up or shifts down gears. its still smooth..
  16. Just email https://www.lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/ and they will be able to send you a link to Transmission Oil page to make a purchase. ive used them for most parts i need. with regards to engine oils, most companies like Lexus, Opie Oils & Euro Car parts all have ebay stores now so best to check the seller. i have just purchased 4 litre Castrol 5W 30 from a non dealer ebay seller and just had my oil changed and it was genuine. if in doubt you cant go wrong with Euro car parts for Oil/Filter.
  17. Jem Lexus/Suzuki in north london is where i usually go for repairs/parts change. they know their way round these cars. http://www.jemlexus.co.uk/
  18. Hi Cesar, welcome to the club, i do recall it being discussed on here the the gearbox from IS200 will not fit or work with the 2JZ-GE engine engine block. Have a read of this article below on manual gearboxes which are compatible. http://is-elite.com/manual-transmission-options-for-the-is300/
  19. same colour and interior combo as mine 🙂 a few touch ups here and there and they look a beast of a car.. they're sure nice to cruise around in..

  22. This explains why it seems there is something missing with gen 4 but I couldn't pinpoint as to what it really was. i've not been in or driven a gen 4 before i'm just going by the looks when compared to its predecessors.. best looking models to me would be gen 2 in sport trim and gen 3 with subtle looks modification..
  23. My previous car was the FWD Honda Accord 2.4 with 190bhp and that was more fun to drive on the limit than the RWD IS300 I had before it.. I think there is this notion which gets thrown around about RWD cars being more fun to drive and although there is a fact on this, some FWD cars can be just as fun if not more predictable on the limit in certain driving conditions than RWD cars. Although its sad to see the GS model go, the writing was on the wall due to it being outsold by other models in the Lexus lineup and they had to make a decision. 4th gen GS although modern lacks something in my eyes. i feel gen 1 to gen 3 were the better built GS's to be honest.
