  1. I would have thought an hpi check would give all reg nos associated with the vehicle. We've just lost our lab/staff cross, but he loved our LS, and used to sit upright as we set off, like he was being chauffeur driven, before settling down in supreme comfort for the rest of the journey.
  2. You're mate looks happy in his new kennel!! The pollen filter looks new, compared to some I've seen posted on here. Plugs are quite expensive, as is a timing belt change, especially if the water pump and pulleys need doing at the same time, so I'd be inclined to run it for a bit, just to be sure it's a keeper, before splashing out.
  3. Probably, Opie provide 6 litres as a service pack, which does the job with a drop left over.
  4. Another vote for battery, I had that message come up after car had been stood for a few weeks, charged battery, problem solved.
  5. Didn't realise there was already a for sale thread on here for this car, and it's just been updated as sold an hour ago.
  6. Cheeky sod. Bet your mate wouldn't have said that to the young bloke in the Sopranos who had one. Actually, there are a lot on youtube owned by young blokes in Japan and USA. I'm a lost cause though, I've always loved barges, right from when I first started driving in my teens, Zodiacs, Crestas, zzzzzz, time for my nap.
  7. Couldn't agree more, regarding the motoring press. They also don't have to worry about running costs, reliability, depreciation, etc, etc, and invariably get test cars festooned with every available extra, which Joe Public would have to pay through the nose for.
  8. Oh dear, apologies on the colour, I'm colour blind, and mrsV has just informed me it's blue, not green!!
  9. Here you go (I hope!!) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10209713568941321&set=pcb.10154261030324413&type=3&theater
  10. I remember your posts about that, real shame. Have you seen that green MK3 with LPG, I think it's on ebay, but also on the lexus owners facebook page. Not really looked in detail, but the pics looked very shiny.
  11. I like mine, which is blue, but it needs to be well kept, or it can look a bit dull. A good wash and polish brings out the metallic sparkle, and makes all the difference. That said, I like all the LS colours, and wouldn't turn any of them down, if the car was otherwise good.
  12. I think the ones without all the toys are quite thin on the ground. Timing belt, I'm pretty sure, is much the same as 400. Faults to look out for, clouded windows, corrosion in doors, aforementioned steering column motors, air suspension problems, stereo systems have been mentioned often on here too, speakers I think mainly, and a real biggy, radiator corrosion, leading to coolant leaking in to the gearbox, with disastrous results. Air con pipes corrode as well, and apparently are an awkward fix, hence why some cap them off, thus losing the rear system. No doubt some will say that we only hear about cars with faults, but I would scrutinise any purchase very carefully, and would certainly replace the radiator as a matter of course.
  13. Think he just wants rid by the sound of it, having probably given buttons for them in part ex.
  14. There are three for sale here, separately, or all three for three grand!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-Lexus-LS-430-4-3-4dr-/252393003217?hash=item3ac3cb98d1:g:cJwAAOSwcvdXPHev
  15. Maybe had a private plate changed, though, as you say, a call to the dealer might help.
  16. There have been a few posts lately about mot advisories, in particular regarding corrosion. My car had a corrosion advisory, which had miraculously cleared 12 months later at the same garage, with the same tester, so if the vehicle you are considering is in the same condition as mine, no worries. However, you obviously need to check the areas for yourself, just to be sure that it's not potentially serious.
  17. Tiff Needell mentioned the point about moisture content, and that was part of the problem. As I posted above, formula1 usage is tightly controlled, in terms of purity, whereas the stuff available to Joe Public contained varying degrees of water, which negated the benefits to a large extent. He also did a fast lap, with and without, and concluded that there was no difference, either in feel, or lap times. He also made the point that you should check your tyres regularly anyway, regardless of their content, and anybody that didn't, to use his words, shouldn't be on the road.
  18. I watched it because it's about cars, despite disliking Chris Evans since the day I first saw him. Can't stand middle aged men trying to dress and act like kids, hence Clarkson and Hammond were also on my hit list, and why does Evans have to SHOUT everything? Matt the american was better than I feared he would be, but there seemed no chemistry between any of the presenters, even the lovely Sabine. I also think they missed a chance to refresh the format, it's looking really tired imo. I watched Fifth Gear the other night on Quest, and Plato, Tiff and VBH, particularly when doing group tests, are far better than anything TG have managed for a long time. All my opinion of course, I know plenty won't agree.
  19. Yep, this was on fifth gear a couple of nights ago, Tiff Needell did a few tests, came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the bother. F1 used it, but under strictly controlled conditions, even then the benefit was marginal. The program was a couple of years old, but I doubt anything has changed since.
  20. Mine flash, once after first press to lock, and three flashes if you press twice.
  21. Why does this man keep selling his cars, if he loves them so much? Might be a great car for all I know, maybe he'll do you a good price, to make up for selling you a dud. Also, sounds like you need to budget for a new timing belt and associated parts for peace of mind, so worth bearing in mind when considering price. Anyway, better luck with your next car, whatever you decide on.
  22. Excellent. In my home town of Newport, back in the sixties/seventies, there was a dealer called Honest Ken, who specialised in the bottom end of the used car market. People used to buy the local rag just to read his adverts, they were very much in the same style. Seemed to work for him though.
  23. Similar experience as Scribe, test before last, advisory for corrosion, 12 months later, same garage, same tester, not a mention.
  24. Same here. Not using the parking brake is likely to result in mot failure eventually.
