  1. Well out of it Jack....if in doubt just walk away, the world is full of second hand cars. As others have said, as the owner of the vehicle, you would have either had to clear the debt, or watch it taken away, then tried to chase the bloke who sold it to you, guess how easy that would be!.
  2. Welcome to the forum Matt. Nice looking car, though, as you say, won't appeal to all. End of the day, who cares, as long as you like it, that's what matters.
  3. Having just experienced an attempted rip off by a main dealer (not Lexus/Toyota), I couldn't agree more.....a good, trustworthy indy, deserves support.
  4. I have to admit,in your shoes, I'd have been mightily relieved at that price.
  5. At which point it's time to pray for a used part being available, as I'm guessing new would be unavailable or hideously expensive. Think I'll strip the rear brakes next time I service mine, a good clean and lube can only help, as well as regular use of the parking brake.
  6. Meanwhile, back on topic, congratulations Peter, you have a stunning car.
  7. Actually Phil, I seem to recall it was you who gave me the heads up on the Brighton garage, so preaching to the converted perhaps.
  8. Definitely go for specialist over main dealer, imo. There's a garage in Brighton that fits the bill, though I've only used him once, others on here have also had good results. Hopefully somebody can remember the details, otherwise I'll dig them out, if required.
  9. Give my regards to George and Stella, and please feed them, as I've decided not to bother!!
  10. Bit harsh on her, just cos she doesn't like your car!!
  11. Have a look on the owners club facebook page, I think somebody is breaking a 430, but if not, you could always post a request.
  12. I've just copied that pattern, and will be coming for your wheels in the early hours of Sunday morning, if that's ok? Just so I don't waste my time, can you confirm that they will fit a LS400 please?
  13. Just had my two year old Peugeot Boxer serviced at main dealer, they charged around £40 for a cabin filter, but as I was suspicious about some of the other items supposedly done, and charged for, I dismantled the dash (LS is much easier to change, thankfully), and took out a Denso filter, which was decidedly grubby, and dated 2012. As you can imagine, I wasn't happy, and have since got compensation from the dealer, but the point of the story is, Denso is a good make, and is often fitted by the manufacturers as original equipment. By the way, Eurocarparts will deliver that Denso filter to my door for nine quid, so not a bad mark up for the Pug dealer, even in the unlikely event of them paying retail. Bandits, the lot of them!
  14. An old thread was recently dug up, which may be of use to you if a code has been entered, which may not be the case, as it's optional, http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/52295-ls400-1998-with-satnav-unlocking-code-needed/#comment-567935 Edit: Sorry, just realised you have a 430, the link refers to a 400, my mistake.
  15. Yes, pollen filter, cabin filter, take your pick. And I agree with the others, unlikely to be the cause of your problem. Well worth changing though, I got my last one from Toyota dealer.
  16. Seat settings need resetting whenever battery is disconnected, so that's normal. As to the wheels, just confirms that you need to test fit before parting with any money. Maybe somebody has fitted MKIV calipers.
  17. These wheels come up for sale fairly regularly, and usually struggle to sell, so pretty cheap. If you're in no rush, just save a search for them on ebay, and get a notification email whenever a set appears. MkIV wheels are also poor sellers, and will fit your car,
  18. Thanks both, not easy, as I'm sure you know, but he had a great life with us, and you can't ask for more.
  19. I've had mine off for charging a couple of times, and recently fitted a new battery, so again, completely disconnected for a while, and the car was fine as soon as battery refitted. On balance, I'd rather chance a disconnect than charge the battery on the car.
