  1. ECT = electronically controlled transmission btw. Can't remember if my buttons by the gear selector light up or not. The gear position selector definitely does.
  2. The back ones exit into the boot behind the wheel arches, but that's only because I've seen them.
  3. No I agree, I was just having a laugh really. I can't say as I've personally felt the need much, and we tow a caravan. Holding it in third has been useful though when towing to stop it gear jumping when in between two gears. It was pretty useful in Devon though!
  4. It's easy enough to change the oil. I've used Comma oil in mine and it's been great.
  5. The only thing I'd say to that though, is that Pads are a lot cheaper than a gearbox ;-) Just out of curiosity, what sort of RPM will the engine be at when you drop into 3rd at 70mph? Actually I was wrong, it drops into second when I floor it at 70mph or just below. It goes in at about 6000rpm then drops into third at about 6100rpm ish which gives just over 4000rpm - enough to just be inside the ACIS band anyway. When actually moving the Auto box is great. It's just a bit crap off the mark as the jump from first to second is too great.
  6. Cant say as I Just out of curiosity, what sort of RPM will the engine be at when you drop into 3rd at 70mph?Now you come to mention it, I cant say as I've noticed. Its inside the ACIS band though. Will have a look next time i go out. If you give it moderate accelerator input its enough to open the torque converter lockup. If you floor it, it will drop to 3rd.
  7. I replaced the back box on mine about 6 months ago for a standard mild steel one as thats all I could afford at the time. Think it was in the region of £50. Ive been pleased with it ever since, it sounds deeper than the standard one and came fitted with a polished tip too. Just had to bend the mounts to get it to fit exactly how I wanted. Wasnt bothered about a stainless one with already having 135k on the clock. Plus with the sort of driving I do, exhausts last me a long time.
  8. Gotta say I love my auto, its silky smooth running comma oil. As is that lovely engine of course! The biggest problem with this auto box is always going to be the step from 1st to 2nd, its too much of a jump really. Once into second though I think it's great. I love dropping it into 3rd at 70mph and feeling it take off when overtaking on the motorway. The MK2 IS250 has a smoother engine I'd say, but I dont't think it is as audibly pleasing at high revs.
  9. On top of this, the screen forms part of the cars structure. If not fitted correctly the car will not perform correctly when you want it to most - in a crash!
  10. I take it you mean the oil is up to the hot level when the engine is running? Sorry in advance if that's what you meant. But yes, I'd start with a fluid change first.
  11. The rear heat shield has normally rusted to bits on the older ones by now. I ended up cutting loads of mine out anyway when fitting a tow bar, but most of it just fell off!
  12. That orange light on the dash that looks like a picture of an engine. You may not necessarily have one of these lit as the fault may not be apparent for long enough to trigger it, or it just doesn't work!
  13. There's too many variables. You really need the fault codes read to start with to see if there are any pending. As a quick one you could also try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to reset the ECU. This will clear your fault codes, but they'll soon return if the fault keeps occurring.
  14. Sorry, that was the service manual as opposed to the owners manual.
  15. Perhaps see if it has any fault codes stored too.
  16. And regarding the P0420 code. If it isn't being caused by your current sensor fault, then it will be because of your manifold. Especially if it doesn't have cats, or free flow ones. Personally I'd dump the manifold and get a proper one. Don't think they make much difference anyway.
  17. The IS200 doesn't have an idle control valve as they use the throttle to control idle. Try checking your hoses on the vacuum side etc to make sure none of them have popped off or are split. Perhaps have a listen with the engine running and giving it short bursts by operating the throttle from within the engine bay. You may find an induction leak that way. I presume your plugs and air filter should be ok?
  18. According to the manual, you adjust them up until the brakes lock the drum from spinning, then back them off 8 notches. Then you need to check the hand brake lever adjustment once the drums are set up. The lever should operate the brakes with 5 to 8 clicks applied. If you need to pull it up more after adjusting the drums, then the lever can be adjusted.
  19. The metal cap is used for initial filling of the system normally. So if it's very low, you'd want to fill there first. Then top the expansion tank at the rear of the radiator up to the correct level. If your level is dropping, they seem to be at the age where the radiators are failing at the moment.
  20. Oh and I'm yet to see a Toyota stereo without a disk changer port.
  21. Does yours have the seperate amplifier behind the glovebox? If so they are controlled by the Toyota AVC-LAN as are the disk changers. So if you have a seperate amp you more than likely have the disk changer port. The disk changer port however is used for the above, so some of the kits come with a breakout lead so you can connect both the amp control and cd changer control into the same plug at the back of the stereo.
  22. Anti-roll bar drop link. They can be a bugger to spot unless the suspension is nice and straight as they are generally under tension.
  23. Mines an X-carlink one which is similar to the yatour. Has more playlist support than the grom and they do android compatible ones too.
