  1. The answer to most EV related threads on there from a few people is always hydrogen......Did any one on this forum buy one of the 12 hydrogen cars sold in the UK last year? If so how are you getting on with them, and what is the cost of hydrogen refuelling? If not, why haven't you guys who believe in hydrogen bought one? https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/business-environment-and-energy/why-hydrogen-no-longer-fuel-future
  2. Given Tesla has been building EVs since 2009 and fully aware of the need to replace battery packs, I suspect Tesla 'structural' packs will be easily serviceable, though am not sure why you would care as you have stated many times before how you are waiting for hydrogen fuel cells cars to come.....Though even though they are here you haven't got one??
  3. A new what? Our EV is coming up to 5 years old, apart from new tyres every 30k its not needing a new of anything. Combustion of hydrogen is already here, and has been for billions of years, I still struggle to understand why us humans think we can do better than the universe at using hydrogen as fuel?
  4. Nothing more to say if that is your dream.
  5. You must be living in some kind of fantasy land, in the UK EVs have already over taken diesels in new car sales this year. By the end of next year I suspect they will be within 50% of petrol car sales, and by 2025 likely overtaken petrol car sales. Hydrogen cell car sales are so tiny they aren't even mentioned. https://www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/car-registrations/
  6. This is the 7th winter we've had an EV as our main family car. Our current EV will have been with us for 5 years come March 2022. It so much better than our Lexus as a family car the Lexus is confined to doing essentially the same 10 mile commute for my wife, pretty much every other trip is done in the EV, summer or winter makes no difference.
  7. Its not strange if overall Lexus knows these cars never break and if it keeps the owners from coming back to a dealer for servicing that's where the money is made. For a dealer making money from servicing is much easier than trying to you a brand new car. Its also the same reason why we have kept the Lexus AA cover going. We pay £99/year for essentially the top cover the AA offers that normally costs £300+, again its because Lexus knows owners will rarely if ever use it.
  8. I use to carry around a Plam, Gameboy Color, Nokia, Rio Player, and after Jobs launched the first iPhone I ditched the lot - Though I did wait for the iPhone 3G to come out before buying. Its now the same for me with cars, if I have to faff with connecting my phone or a car without connectivity seems totally bizarre. Our none Lexus gives me real world traffic data (with rerouting), life energy usage/plot for the trip based on topography, streaming media feed from Spotify, even the voice recognition system works through connectivity. When parked waiting to collect my daughter from various clubs I've got YouTube, Netflix, even random games to pass the time. Once you get use to the convince of connectivity in any car the total lack of it on virtually every Lexus is quite striking. Its fine if Lexus was a cheap brand like Dacia, but for a 'premium' brand its unforgivable in 2021 as we had into 2022. Nokia, Palm, Rio all refused to change with the times and we all know what happened to them.
  9. I guess you guys also think phones should just make phone calls too :). We went to a remote cost in wales this weekend, imagine the shock on my face when we got back into the car to go to a prebooked lunch and realised there was no internet connection in the car or phones to either load maps or the address of the restaurant:). I had to resort to memory to get us back onto the main road where thankfully the LTE symbol reappeared on the cars map. The coast was beautiful though, and my daughter even found a real fossil!! So I think we will visit there again despite the lack of connectivity:).
  10. If you wanted the best infotainment Lexus isn't the brand to buy. Our IS300H premier is so behind the curve interms of connectivity compared to our other car its not even worth tyring to compare. The latest version of the Tesla app even records every trip and gives you a 'safety' score in view of soon to be released driver specific insurance quotes based on past driving standards. This function literally has just come out in the US, and will be in the UK soon......am not sure I can remember Lexus adding any additional functionality to our IS300H in the last 6.5 years or ownership?? Meanwhile infotainment computer has had an software updated pushed to it which means 2 factor authentication works for web pages like Twitter and Google. Enjoy the IS300H for rock solid reliability and you will be very happy with the car! Trying to explore the connectivity of the IS300H compared to what other brands are doing and you will be very disappointed.
  11. Just thought I check the WBAC our IS300H as it comes up to been nearly 7 years old......£16k, so essentially 47% value of what we paid brand new for it back in 2015. If you car keeping any car longterm paying/buying on PCP makes little sense. The depreciation on the IS300H at 7 years is going to work out at roughly £200/month.
  12. A 2015 Acenta was my first step in to the world of BEVs and I haven't looked back. 3K a year for going around town is exactly what its good for, don't even think about M-way driving in winter in one........Not unless you enjoy real 'range anxiety' 😀 Used prices are surprisingly firm for essentially a Nissan family hatchback, you don't need a Tekna which really doesn't add much over the Acenta spec. In fact looking at used prices its probably worth spending a bit extra and getting the 'new shape' 40kWh Leaf over the older 24/30kWh cars. Do be weary of really 'cheap' cars as abused battery packs will degrade quicker than looked after ones, and dealers have been known to 'reset' the BMS on car to hide excessive degradation. Equally 30kWh battery packs degrade worst of all, infact by 60k+ miles a 30kWh pack is essentially a 24kWh pack in performance!! I'll always remember mine as its the first EV I owned, but ultimately though remove the EV bit and the Leaf is a very very ordinary Nissan hatchback (essentially a Pulsar), which is why ultimately I paid Nissan to take mine back early so I could take delivery of its replacement. If you want a cheap/reliable/practical way to get from A to B in town, a Leaf is hard to beat. But much more interesting EVs are available!!! For limited millage in town, if you don't need to carry other people, I would be looking for one of these as long term keeper!! I've never driven one, but just sitting in one makes you smile, and they look like an absolute blast when I've come across them on the roads.....Though am not sure if I want to be in one when flanked by 2ton+ SUVs and HGVs!!
  13. And when was the last time VED changes were retrospectively applied? All the better reason to get an EV now!! You can keep on waiting for hydrogen infrastructure to develop, and keep on VED/fuel duty.
  14. If you believe that will happen than surely it makes sense to get an EV NOW?? The government rarely back dates new VED polices to older cars, so any EV now that is VED £0 will likely remain so for the reminder of the time they are on the road. Our Tesla have 'free for life' electricity, and 'free for life' connectivity, both of which Tesla now charge ££ for. I therefore have very little incentive to ever sell ours.
  15. So we've got home yesterday from the road trip, 1020 miles in total. Google says 18hrs+ of driving without taking taking into account random sight seeing trips. We took our EV because it was easier and nicer than taking our IS300H, infant the trip was so easy am once again seriously considering ditching the IS300H for a new BEV despite financially not making sense. I simply just cannot stand having to visit petrol stations anymore. If/When any hydrogen fuel cell car become as convenient and easy to live with as our BEV I might consider one, but till than I'll stick to a car based on a technology that works today😀. Road trip to Norway for 2022, cannot wait!! PS - We didn't end up using the Fort William Tesla Super charger 🙂
  16. ^Its not news to anyone most BEV owners love their cars, and most recommend them to others. California has the biggest hydrogen fuel station network in the US, but just read the owner reviews......and look at the cost of hydrogen fuel stations. €2million each to build, who is going to pay for them to be build in the UK, Toyota?, the government? Shell/BP? The answer is quite obvious when you look at the total lack of hydrogen infrastructure. The only chance hydrogen has of success if early adopters really start buying them and business see a potential for profit. But who and where are the early adopters? https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2021-08-10/hydrogen-highway-or-highway-to-nowhere https://www.torquenews.com/8113/toyota-mirai-owners-there-no-fuel-and-we-want-out-these-cars https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a36003212/hydrogen-mirai-california-shortage/ Believe it or not I have briefly looked at the Mirai as a 'bargain used buy since they depreciate so much, infact a used Mirai costs less to buy than our IS300H new. But the issue comes I simply cannot actually use it like a normal car, with absolutely zero idea/guarantee anyone is going to be building hydrogen fuel stations near me. So buying into hydrogen fuel cell cars is like wishing for world peace, its a great idea but ultimately it will forever remain that, just an idea.
  17. I wouldn't call any Tesla reliable, but the need for repair work has reduced quite considerably in the last 12 months. More importantly the car is working perfectly as a total replacement for my old BMW 335i for road trips. I love all kinds of 'new' tech but the fact our car was ordered in 2016 shows how mature EV tech is already.......When will we be able to do a 1000mile+ Scotland road ntrip in a hydrogen powered Lexus??
  18. All new technology is expensive and no company will produce technology that isn't financially viable. We are lucky enough to have the disposable income to spend on new tech, the problem with hydrogen is it simply cannot compete with BEVs. This is why I keep on coming back to reality and actions. Show me how/when a hydrogen fuel cell car will be as convenient and easy to own a my current BEV and I'll consider buying one. But even if wealthy early adopters cannot be persuaded by hydrogen technology who is actually going to buy it?? Loads of people love to talk about how great hydrogen is, but why aren't people buying the cars?? And if no one buys the cars who is going to develop them or the fueling suppprt needed?? Please if you actually believe hydrogen works, support Toyota and BUY a hydrogen fuel cell car, than go and tell everyone how good it is to get more support......just talking about something has never ever changed anything, you have to act.
  19. And there lies the biggest issue with hydrogen, who actually have shown it works as a family car?? Even James May hasn't taken his Mirai beyond the comfort blanket of been within reach of a handful of hydrogen fuel stations- Which haven't increased in numbers at all in recent years. Yet our 4.5 year old EV has just taken us the Highlands from the midlands with zero issues......Our EV will be half a decade old next year when I plan on doing a tour of Norway in it. Hydrogen or Battery EVs, as far as am concerned one is snake oil been sold on a promise that is always coming but never actually here, the other, well it just works. So has anyone driven a Mirai or intend to take ownership of a hydrogen IS if Lexus made one for sale tomorrow?
  20. December and January is when you will really notice drop in range. Consumption on short trips can nearly double if you don't preheat and have a stone cold battery to start off with. A combination of needing to power a heater and increased internal resistance of the a cold battery is what really effects range.
  21. @Chris UXeThanks for the real life feedback, any plans to do long trips try out how it works on the public rapid charging network. It does seem like the UXe isn't as bad on consumption as I initially thought at 70mph - unlike for example the Hyundai Ionqi 5 which seems worse than everyone anticipated. The CHADEMO port seems like a real hindrance though, as CCS the European standard. I do hope Lexus release something to replace our IS300H soon- its 7 years old soon. Nothing wrong with it but it feels increasingly agricultural these days versus EVs. It would be nice to be able to replace it with another Lexus.
  22. Here is some more stuff for you to get worked about for no reason..... Shame you to find the idea BEVs work so well in the real world so difficult to accept, yet belive hydrogen is the future with zero real world proof it will ever work. I saw dozens of EVs today around Loch Lomond, EQC/eTron/iPaces, can you guess how many hydrogen fuel cell cars I've seen today🤣. If Lexus wants to keep on selling 'premium' new cars they better get the BEV version of the RX out ASAP!
  23. Meanwhile in the real world over the last few days we've done some 8hrs+ of driving in our EV travelling from the Midlands to Scotland with no issues......well if you don't count closed roads, mild flooding, traffic, rammed services :). I see EV sales now match that of diesels. If Lexus wants to remain relevant they better come up with something better than the UXe soon. As much you love hydrogen you know how well a hydrogen IS will sell. Our EV will be 5 years old next year, and its simply so much better as a family car than our IS300H. That's how far behind Lexus are in EV tech, if you care about Lexus as a brand surviving hydrogen should be last thing you want Lexus to waste time and money on!! We will be hitting Glencoe in the next few days, cannot wait, whilst our IS300H gathers dust on the driveway........
  24. What fuel source do you use regularly that is cooled to -250degrees? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_hydrogen
  25. So hydrogen is our savour..... https://www.trucks.com/2016/12/07/nikola-one-hydrogen-electric-semi-truck/ ......and those who back in only ever tell the truth 🤣 https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/29/22599726/nikola-founder-securities-fraud-charge-milton
