  1. Yep, it was just a generic example. Sometimes I forget there are separate sections on this forum The rest of the post should still be relevant though. Although, that is some impressive reliability you have had there. How many miles did/do you cover in each one?
  2. Thanks both. I am trying to get them to fix it under my extended warranty. I will speak to them tomorrow and tell them that others have told me theirs both tilt the same amount. I will keep you posted.
  3. Thanks @is200 Newbie So both your mirrors tilt down the same amount? If so, it looks like it might be a trip back to the dealers. If they refuse to do anything about it, I can always follow the excellent guide you posted.
  4. As far as I am aware, the top picture is from a facelift car, with most appearing after 2009. I know the plugs on the back are slightly different, but I don't think there is much in terms of change in everyday use.
  5. My car was 7 years old and had one non Lexus service in the book when I took out my first warranty. In the last 2 and a half years I have had a flywheel, seat frame and 3 brake calipers changed under the warranty. They did refuse to cover engine mounts, but I thought that was fair enough. As for servicing, I can only speak for Lexus Reading, but they will stamp your book if you have essential services done there. Apparently, there is another option called a Value service for which they won't stamp the book. Some good points have been raised on here already regarding sundry expenses that you haven't accounted for. For example, the AA cover and Hybrid health check would account for roughly £1900 over 10 years. One other question is the issue of how often to service the car. Your calculations stipulate independent services every 15k instead of 10k. As this is 50% over the recommended interval, I am not sure it is a good idea, especially considering how long you plan to keep the car. So, if you up the independent services to the same level as the dealer ones, it would work out to approximately £2800. Add to that £1200 of AA cover and you get £4000. Include the hybrid health check and we are up to £4700. Now, if you subtract a couple of thousand for main dealer servicing costs because of essential pricing, then the two figures end up being much closer together. Of course, no one can say for sure if you will need any warranty work done to your car in the next decade, but it wouldn't take many problems to recoup the cost of the warranty back. I certainly have got my moneys worth out of the couple I have purchased.
  6. Thanks chaps. I just got back from the dealer and they told me it was standard. Apparently, the user configurable option you guys mentioned was only available on facelift models, so I can't change mine. It would still be nice if someone on here with a pre-facelift car can tell me theirs does the same, just to be sure. If it is indeed the case then it is somewhat embarrassing that I haven't noticed in the last 2 and a half years of owning the car.
  7. tried that, but it doesn't want to move as much as the other. I just thought that someone would have noticed the same thing with theirs to confirm that it is meant to move less than the other one?
  8. Yes, but what I wanted to know was whether it is true that both mirrors don't move the same amount? If so, then I haven't been very observant these last few years.
  9. Hey chaps, I was wondering if one of you might do me a favour? I noticed the other day that my drivers side mirror doesn't tilt as far as my passenger side one when the car is put into reverse. The dealer has told me it is supposed to be this way because it isn't the curb side. So, can any of you guys tell me if yours is the same? My passenger side one tilts quite a way down, but the drivers hardly seems to move at all? Thanks.
  10. Sorry, I am not trying to be dense, but does this android unit not need the sat nav wiring from the car then? I thought that is what the wiring you linked in the first post on here was for?
  11. Interesting idea, but I do prefer having physical buttons for the stereo and climate control so I don't have to take my eyes off the road to adjust while driving. Also, the time the unit takes to start when you first turn the car on would drive me mad. For the cost, wouldn't you prefer to just get a standard nav unit?
  12. To be honest with you, if all you do is town driving then a diesel isn't really for you. In order to stop the EGR valve and DPF getting clogged up they need a good long run once in a while, ideally on a motorway or A road doing over 2000rpm for 15-20 mins or so. Modern diesels aren't suited to doing only short journeys, so you should prepare for more clogging in the future if that is all you do. Although, even a petrol car will eventually have issues if all you do is 2 mile trips constantly. For your car, take it for a blast up a motorway once a week or 2 to keep it happy
  13. If it is a clogged EGR valve then it would only need cleaning, not replacing. It is a simple job and should ideally be done regularly to keep it clean. The other common cause is a block DPF. This is more tricky to fix, but there are still some options before it would need replacing. Once you get the code is should be easier to figure out what to do next.
  14. Welcome Paul. I assume it says 'Check VSC' on the information display? It sounds like your car went into limp home mode, which would explain the lack of power. If, after turning the car on and off again, it drives normally then it should be ok if you need to use it for now, although it go into limp home again at any moment. You would need an OBD2 reader to see what the error code the car has generated. I don't have one personally, but there are plenty on Ebay which should do the job. Depending on the code, you would then need to see what the best way forward would be.
  15. Yep, again Ian is spot on. It is rare for the EGR Valve to actually fail and need replacing. Mostly it is just full of carbon deposits and needs a good clean to get it working properly again. Brake cleaner, screwdriver and a wire brush are usually all that is needed to give it a scrub. It is also simple and quick to remove once you get the hang of all the tips and tricks.
  16. Welcome Matthew, If I had to bet, I would say blocked EGR valve. Quick and easy to fix, so fingers crossed that is where the problem is. At what RPM does the turbo kick in? Anything much above 1600-1700rpm and the EGR Valve being blocked becomes more likely. Although what Ian suggests is a good idea, so it is worth following his advice.
  17. Well, mine is going back in next week to have the dash re-mounted. I am getting a creaking from the drivers side that wasn't there before. To be fair to Lexus Reading, Michael (the service guy I use) didn't even flinch when I mentioned it to him and immediately arranged for it to be taken out and checked. He even said he would keep the car for 2 days in case they need to order some new clips.
  18. Welcome Kevin What made you decide to swap brands then? Not that you will regret it since the IS250 is a fantastic car. Pictures are always appreciate too.
  19. Apparently it is who can spend more time doing research to win an Internet argument.
  20. Unfortunately, I think this is the most sensible thing that has been said on this thread for a while now.
  21. That is living in London for you. When I lived in the capital 2 years ago I was paying £700. Since moving my last premium was £364.
  22. You care far too much about this topic Why don't you guys solve this the old fashioned way?
  23. Hello, According to the manual, you doesn't need to be coded, but it does need to be calibrated. In order to do this yourself you would need a copy of the TechStream software. It can be found cheaply on Ebay. This is an example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-VCI-Diagnostic-Tool-Cable-Scanner-for-Toyota-Lexus-TIS-Techstream-V10-30-2/391788689000?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 The procedure would then be as follows:
  24. Don't get me wrong, it is quite possible it is the ball joints. Also, as you say, it is free to check them so why not. Nope, unfortunately, wheel balancing does require a trip to the tyre fitters. It can be frustrating to figure out, but I am sure you will get there in the end If your slides aren't seized then you are the lucky one I would get some grease and lube them up even if they are in good condition.
