  1. I think if you ask most Lexus owners, reliability will be one of the major reasons for ownership - the IS220D was a very rare exception to the rule. There are plenty of members here with cars over 20 years old and some with very high mileages so there's no reason to suppose that a 4 or 5 year old IS300h will give you any trouble. Bear in mind you can buy a Lexus warranty (which is very comprehensive and includes AA cover) even if you don't buy through Lexus if you really want to have peace of mind.
  2. Sounds a bit like this problem
  3. It looks like the owners manual does not list the fuse layout for any of the fuse boxes, unusual as they usually are documented in the manual. Does the fusebox cover have a sticker/label with the fuse circuits listed?
  4. My daughter recently changed her car and was 6 months into an insured deal with Admiral that cost her just over a grand. She phoned to transfer the insurance to the new car only to be quoted £500+ to change - Madness. So she asked to cancel her existing insurance as she would look around for a new deal and was told she would get about £500 back - fair enough. Then went online to check with the Meerkats and the cheapest quote? - Admiral at pretty much the same price (£1,000) as she had paid on the current insurance. It would have been much easier for all concerned to just charge an admin fee to make the necessary changes - Madness
  5. I bought some 'non-lexus' mats from ebay for mine. They fit fine - just don't have the lexus logo.
  6. Looks in very good nick. I love the two tone interior (apart from keeping the scuff plates clean) enjoy
  7. there's some guides on you tube showing how to dismantle the dash and remove the stereo
  8. Halfords after-sales service is a mixed bag, I think it depends on the store/staff/product. I've seen equal numbers of forum posts praising and criticising them. However, their 'attempt' to fit a new battery to my IS about 18 months ago was embarrassing and inept, although reportedly they seem to be quite expert at fitting dashcams (?)
  9. An IS-F in the 'boro? I didn't think there was any round here. Gutted for you though. It will push your premiums up for a couple of years but if you factor in the cost of repairs to both cars you'll probably come out better off or at least break even. Good luck with getting it sorted as painlessly as possible.
  10. Another thought, has it recently been in for the airbag recall? This involved stripping the dashboard down and the audio console would have come out. I swear my radio reception is not as good as it was before the recall.
  11. Well congratulations .... and commiserations. Main thing, as you say, is no-one was hurt. There must have been thousands of claims put in over the last few days and I suppose we will all pay the price come insurance renewal time :( Can't help with your LS600 query but I'm sure someone will have some ideas. Was it bought private or through a dealer? If it was a dealer then you have a case for getting it fixed under warranty. Love to see some pictures of the new steed, you don't see many LS600h driving around
  12. Congratulations, sounds like you've bagged a good 'un :) Now all you need is some sunshine so you can enjoy the Sunroof
  13. No harm in asking. The two cars are a similar age/mileage/history so directly comparable. I'd assume that the Leicester one is a 'Lexus Approved Used' (it's not on the national website though??) and will come with a 12 month warranty plus breakdown cover which your local Lexus franchise should honour. This will be the sales argument to justify a higher price. I suppose it depends on what kind of deal you can strike with the Warrington seller and how they compare in condition (which you can only really judge when you're stood in front of them) and how flexible your budget is. Good luck :)
  14. Hi David A very interesting read and thank you for taking the time to keep us informed. I'm not likely to change to an EV anytime soon but I enjoyed reading about your experience. I think the last paragraph about the competition and the charging network was the most interesting. As someone said Betamax and VHS again. The sensible option, to my way of thinking, would be for Tesla to license their charging networks to other manufacturers (who should be prepared to pay) in order to allow the market to grow. Obviously, this is why I'm not in charge of a multi-national conglomerate
  15. You have @is200 Newbie to thank for the guide. On that budget, you will probably be looking at cars which have done >100K but this shouldn't be an issue unless the it's been neglected and/or abused. You will also find the manuals are significantly cheaper than auto - primarily due to the tax (there's a maginal difference in the CO2 figures) but also because the manual has a reputation for not being entirely suited to the engine. I haven't driven a manual so can't comment further but I've not heard of any reliability issues so you might decide that the savings on the purchase price outweigh the extra RT costs. You will also save money if you go for the version without the built-in SatNav (which is not as good as a smartphone or a TomTom anyway). Real running costs? Well the IS250 is not particularly economic on short to medium runs - expect around 25 to 30mpg. Motorway cruising will return better mpg. Routine maintenance costs (oil filter/brake pads etc) are pretty average for a 2 litre car. However, the lexus specific stuff like the Exhaust can be quite pricey and even the breakers want premium prices. This looks like a nice example in your budget https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201802264084551
  16. Well he's only repeated what is in the advert. The front discs were replaced due to an MOT fail, they were an advisory on the previous test - as were the rear discs - but there's no mention of the rear discs being replaced. The service history is a little strange, although the book stamp says 'Lexus Specialist', the Three Tuns Garage website makes no such claim, nor does their Facebook page. Perhaps they have a selection of them - 'Honda Specialist', 'Jaguar Specialist' and so on...As I say just a little 'odd' Also, it's approaching 60K and the spark plugs haven't been changed. It won't suddenly stop working but if you want to look after the car then will you be able to do it yourself or find a garage who will do it for you. Carzana values the car at £5.8k BUT that's the value for sale on a dealer forecourt and not as a private sale.
  17. I think 'decent' LS models are hard to come by and get snapped up pretty quickly when they do.
  18. I believe the NX is AWD and automatically detects loss of traction and compensates for snow and ice.
  19. It's miles away from you, but there's a members IS300 for sale in the classified section. Needs some TLC but well worth the asking price IMO
  20. Extremely comprehensive used IS250 buyers guide (applies to most model years 2005-2013 not just 2007) The only things to really worry about though are condition of the exhaust and seized calipers. If you indicate your budget and preferences we can suggest what you could look for.
